Normal young women go on dates on Saturday nights. Paranormal investigator Betty “Boo” Boorman goes on ghost hunts in Savannah, Georgia, America’s most haunted city. She’s more comfortable around ghosts than guys, anyway.

A violent haunting forces Betty to team up with her rival ghost hunter, the arrogant Carter Lansford. When the violence is turned toward her, though, Betty knows she needs additional expertise. She enlists the help of a handsome stranger, who introduces himself simply as Maxwell, Demon.

Betty’s ghost hunting is cut short when she’s threatened and, finally, attacked. Either someone wants her to stay away from an investigation, or a demon hunter is targeting her. As Betty begins to fall for Maxwell’s mysterious charm, she starts to wonder if her life—and her soul—are worth the risk.

Beth Dolgner writes paranormal fiction and non-fiction. Her interest in things that go bump in the night really took off on a trip to Savannah, Georgia, so it's fitting that the Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter Series of paranormal romance novels takes place in that spooky city. Beth's young adult novels, the steampunk Manifest and the urban fantasy A Talent for Death, also have paranormal elements. Her non-fiction work includes Georgia Spirits and Specters and Everyday Voodoo.

Since Georgia is obviously on her mind, you might think Beth lives there. Well, she did, but these days she and her husband live in Berlin, Germany, with their three cats. Beth misses those mild Georgia winters and proper iced tea, but there's no reason her characters can't enjoy those things.

Beth also enjoys giving presentations on Victorian death and mourning traditions as well as Victorian Spiritualism. She has been a volunteer at an historic cemetery, a ghost tour guide and a paranormal investigator. Right now she's chronicling the best spooky spots around Europe.

S!ow moving, over described

Ok so you have Betty which investigates the paranormal. Everything is over the top detail. Moved to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, got dressed, etc. And that was each day. Drove me crazy.

Also as being someone who investigates the paranormal how could she date a Demon, just unbelievable. She does because "oh so handsome". Eye roll.

Ghost of a Threat

By

Ghost of a Threat (Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter, #1)

I really wanted to like “Ghost of a Chance”. I did like that this book had a diversity of characters, a storyline that seemed more interesting and fun than the more typical ghost hauntings . I enjoyed the authors creativity, and found that there were even a few twists that surprised me.

What I didn’t like was the book didn’t flow for me. The writing seemed jerky. Going from scene to scene felt very abrupt, and I felt many of the scenes were not connected or segwayed into properly. I even tripped over the grammar a lot, finding myself pulled out of the story to wonder “how could that be phrased to sound better”? Or to wonder “what was the point of that”? I kept unconsciously skimming and skipping ahead, then forcing myself to backtrack.

I initially liked the main character and how she seemed to know who she was. She presented as an honest, intelligent, genuine person who happened to have a talent for ghost hunting. Then she agrees to work with someone she despises and dates a demon who has made it clear in deeds and explanations that he is evil. Her internal struggle over this issue is lukewarm at best and I found her irritating and shallow.

The characters and plot all seemed rather underdeveloped and I wish I could have gotten a better sense of who these people were. It’s almost as if they were altered to fit the story instead of the story forming around them. This book felt like a good “first draft” to me.

When I read a good book, it’s like a movie playing in my head. In this case the movie kept being stopped by random thoughts about grammar as well as noticing the abrupt jerky starts and stops. All these interruptions were enough that I had a hard time finishing this book

I rated this book a 2 out of 5 flower book. It had no major faults, but too many small ones that prevented me from enjoying this read. I am going to give the second book in the series a try, as I like the author’s ideas and imagination. I am hoping that each book will get better with the experience of the previous one behind her.

3.5 Stars!!! A cute paranormal romance featuring ghost hunters, ghosts, demons, murder, kidnapping and an unlikely romance.

Betty "Boo" Boorman is a member of "the Savannah Spirit Seekers [who] have been investigating reported hauntings in Savannah, Georgia, for the past two years."

They get called to investigate a haunting with another Savannah ghost hunting team. During a press conference for the case, Betty notices a man staring at her from the shadows ... with red eyes! When the press conference is over she tries to find him but he's gone.

Later that night while finishing her wine at the bar, she meets a "most beautiful man" who tells her it's his job to know what to do to help her other client and gives her a card which reads "Maxwell, Demon" He tells her, "When you decide you want to know what’s haunting Sam MacIntosh, give me a call" and leaves. When Sam's case gets physical, Betty decides to call Maxwell for more insight into the case. They have dinner and he gives her something to get rid of Sam's haunting entity. She still doesn't believe Maxwell is a demon until after their second 'date' and then he proves it to her in several ways. Much to her consternation, she finds she's falling for him. When he tells her he's falling for her, she's lost.

A quick read and fans of ghost hunting stories and television shows should like this.

DNF over-description and little plot? Everyone but Betty seemed one dimensional and the supposed love interest of Maxwell was really freaking weird man. THIS MAN SHOWS UP AT HER HOUSE NAKED AND MATERIALIZES INTO THIN AIR AFTER SHE IS SOBBING OVER A BREAK IN? I think this story had potential it just is a no from me.

Author Beth Dolgner certainly knows how to dole out the shivers: I pretty much screamed my way through the Prologue (and loved it). Turns out I was frightened with good reason, for the case which Betty and her Savannah Spirit Seekers set to investigate involves not just a scary haunt, but a malicious spirit who trails physical injury in its wake. But Betty and her crew find they have competition in locating this elusive haunting: egotistical paranormal diva Carter Lansford, the media darling, is on the hunt as well, and Carter entangles “Betty Boo” into researching an important investigation he has contracted, at a historic downtown Savannah law firm, where there is more than meets a surface examination. Certainly this is the first case in which Betty has encountered someone who claims to be a demon, introducing himself as the man with the answers to the malicious spirit haunting the McIntosh home.

Delightfully written, and filled with wonderful geographical and historical input of Savannah, Georgia, and its near environs, “Ghost of a Threat” will have you racing to turn pages in expectancy of the next event. The pacing is fast, but the attitude is cosy, inspiring readers to warm up to the characters, wishing to get to know them better, as if we’re making friends for the first time. Protagonist Betty Boorman is a decisive, determined, individual, one who is distinctly comfortable in her own skin and her own life, cognizant of the choices she has made, and not particularly anxious for anything she may or may not be missing. I found her unusual as a female paranormal investigator-in-charge, but given her character and interests this fits right in, and she does a marvelous job of operating The Savannah Spirit Seekers, even when the competition is intense and the media spotlight is trained on the vain Carter Lansford.

“Ghost of a Threat” is a good read, and I anticipate more from this talented author. This is Book One of the “Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter” Series,

Ever since first discovering the TV series "Ghost Whisperer" , I've become more and more interested in these ghost hunting novels -obsessed with tv shows like Pretty Little Liars, Supernatural and Medium . Though when I think about it , even when I was little I loved Ghost solving movies like Ghostbusters and one that used to play on TV called "Ghost Writer".
Ghost of a Threat is the first book in a new series by Beth Dolgner called the "Betty Book Ghost Hunter" , I loved the character's name because it reminded me of Betty Boop . In Ghost of a threat we meet Betty Boo who runs the ghost hunting business in Savannah. When she is called to investigate a haunting in Thunderbolt , she packs up and arrives only to find that the client as also phoned her arch-rival Carter who has turned his ghost business into a media frenzy and is in it more for the money rather than helping the people. At first, the haunting seems a little suspicious as it's only been happening a few nights and as the nights progress it seems someone is definitely up to something as Carter's team is injured and odd things are happening. When Betty meets Maxwell who claims to be a Demon , is she going crazy or are there really demons like there are ghosts and if so what has demons got to do with this haunting ? Soon Betty finds herself heavily involved in a world of crazy haunts, ghosts and demons and what happens when Betty starts to fall Maxwell - the demon ?

Oh my....I don't usually give books a 5-star rating....because they have to be especially life altering to get that in my mind. But....Ghost of a Threat definitely deserves this 5 star rating as far as I am concerned.

It is not just another paranormal plot,Ms. Dolgner had taken it up several notches and made it increasingly more appealing....for me at least because there are NO vampires.

In Ghost of a Threat, Beth Dolgner, takes the reader on a paranormal journey with mysterious happenings. She kept me on the edge of my seat with all the mysterious activities that were evolving within the plot. The characters were totally realistic and believable.

I for one....can not wait for the second book in this series.....Thank you Ms. Dolgner for allowing me to review this book for you!!

Not my favourite by the author. I found her Nightmare series much more entertaining but though the premise of this story was good, the whole thing felt very rushed especially the relationship aspect. Betty activelly sees the misery the demon causes and is just...ok with it as are her friends? The mystery was also solved completely off screen.
I'd recommend reading one of her other books instead.

I. Loved. This. Book. Is that to the point enough? *wink* Ghost of a Threat is the first book I have ever read by Beth Dolgner and I am officially a fan. The story starts out introducing us to the star of this new series – Betty “Boo” Boorman. She’s independent and strong willed, yet still vulnerable. And she’s a ghost hunter. Well, paranormal investigator, to be politically correct. I happen to be a “from the ground up” fan of the show Ghost Hunters on Discovery. I watched that show when it was brand new and loved it. Now, not so much as I feel that it’s become a little too Hollywood (sound effects inserted and everyone is an over-actor). This series sort of gives you a look into what a paranormal investigation can really be like – sometimes exciting, sometimes boring. It’s definitely a fun aspect of this book. However, definitely NOT the only thing the book has going for it.

Betty is part of an investigation team called The Savannah Spirit Seekers. The cast of characters Betty has surrounding her are fantastic. Through Beth’s writing, you really get a sense of the solidity of their friendship. This group of friends will do anything for one another and you really feel that.

Aside from the great cast, Ms. Dolgner has put together a very well written mystery. I can honestly say that I did not see that ending coming. You will be left slack-jawed and bug-eyed when you read the ending. There are mysteries within mysteries that will keep you guessing until the last few pages.

And then there’s Maxwell. Oh, Maxwell. I think Maxwell may have taken the place of Eric Northman in my heart as my favorite literary badass. Ladies – He’s hot. He’s complicated. He’s hot. He’s witty. He’s hot. He’s mysterious. He’s…..well, a good word that comes to mind to describe Maxwell is debonair. He’s well put together, well spoken and he’s got a wicked jones for our heroine. I think I need to add #TeamMaxwell to my list of “team” tags now.

I highly recommend this book. It’s got a fluid storyline and you never get left behind or confused. If you have any questions about what this book has in store for you, just read the very first chapter (only a couple pages long). I LITERALLY got goose bumps!!!

I give Ghost of a Threat 5 stars!!

When Betty Boorman, or Betty Boo as she is known to her friends, responds to a call about a haunting with her ghost hunting team, she realizes she is up against something much worse. She deduced this when said entity scorched her hair. Stumped about what to do, she is surprised when a very handsome man tells her that he can help. She reluctantly calls Maxwell for help, and from that moment on, her life seems to gather chaos. Carter Lansford, a rival ghost hunter in Savanna, asks Betty to help him with a ghost problem at a local law firm, the haunting and their part in solving the mystery is made very public. After two break-ins at her apartment, Betty realizes she is in trouble. Add to this a mysterious man stalking her and her new love interest, who is a demon, and soon Betty has a life full of actions and things that go bump in the night.
Beth Dolgner is the author of the Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast books, and the Betty Boo series consists of four books. This is the first and also an audiobook. The story is exciting and easy to listen to, the narrator is excellent, and one can hear the emotions of the various characters and their varied voices. There are some sensual scenes, but nothing explicit and the language is without profanity; therefore, I would recommend it to anyone over 18 who likes paranormal cosies. Look out for the review of the second book.

Read all the other 1 and 2 star reviews

Full disclosure: I DNF’d this at 61%. It was snooze-worthy at best. I decided to throw in the towel when Betty and Maxwell go on a date and he shows her how he horribly screwed up an entire family’s life and he was proud of it!! And she just decided to ‘ignore it.’ Because he kissed her nicely???

Maybe (okay, definitely) my current predicament of being in a marriage where my husband does nothing and I’m deciding whether to go or stay is influencing this review, but I kept thinking of all the concessions Betty would be making having a relationship with this guy….that would later come back to haunt her. (Sorry!! I had to ;) )

And then I went to the reviews to see if anything improves and if it was worth trudging through the last 39% and when I read how the daily tasks took up most of the word count, I realized it was so true! The most inane, mundane things are what fill this book’s pages. And Betty’s words and actions are literally like a person reading lines with no motivation behind them. Someone said she is 2D and very flat. Yes!! I fully agree!

I’m super sad because this could’ve been intriguing and mysterious, cozy and sweetly romantic. But it just falls short of every single one of those adjectives.

Betty Boorman (aka Betty Boo) is a marketing rep by day and a paranormal ghost hunter by night.
After a strange ghost investigation that includes another ghost hunter, Carter, where nothing is discovered, she runs into Maxwell at a bar where she’s enjoying a wind down drink. He makes a statement about helping her with her investigation and leaves his card.
Not sure what to do about Maxwell, who is a demon, she does accept his help with the investigation.
She is also working on another job with Carter which is definitely more involved.
Despite her misgivings, she gives Maxwell a chance and it’s a good thing as stuff starts getting dangerous with her new investigation.
There is a bit of a mystery, some interesting characters although some will need more fleshing out in future books. There is some action and different aspects of paranormal stories.
I quite enjoyed this book and will definitely go on in the series but it is not as good as Beth Dolgner’s Nightmare Arizona series yet.

Audio book review
This is book 1 in a ghost story by Beth Dolgner. Beth wrote a strong story very detailed, strong characters, some are likeable and one is an attention seeker . This one is a strong stoy with a twist. There are not only ghosts m but a demon that is getting vicious with a homeowner.

Sam has an incident in his home. He calls Betty ( nickname Betty Boo ) but he also calls her arch rival , the attention seeker , Carter. Both Carter and Betty think it’s a ghost but Betty gets help from someone ( Maxwell) you will wonder how he appeared in Betty life.

Love how Maxwell saves Betty not only once but a few times. Grab it and see what twist Beth did with Maxwell character

First time I heard : Lisa Bozek. I like how she did this story. Her voice is clear and strong

I love a good cozy Paranormal mystery story, so when I saw this I was intrigued - Ghost hunters and a mystery all wrapped up into one.

Ghost of A Threat was a great read and I really liked the introduction of all the characters, I felt like the story started off as soon as I began reading and everything fell into place along the way.
The characters are all created really well, Carter is going to be the guy we need to dislike but actually find he's not that bad and I have a feeling he'll pop up throughout the series. I love Betty she seems so down to earth.
I really enjoyed the storyline and I found it interesting that this story wasn't just about ghost hunting it had a twist to it which I really enjoyed.

I really enjoy reading Beth Dolgner's novels as they have a coziness to them and you just get caught up in the story. I really look forward to reading book 2

Ghost of a threat, may contain some spoilers

I started this book because I love Beth Dolgner's Nightmare AZ series so now I have to plow through her backlist lol.

Betty Boorman, AKA Betty Boo is a strong female lead with an entertaining side gig and a crew of good friends.

Stop here if you don't want to see potential spoilers.

No, really.

Okay, fine but I did warn you......

Betty meets The charming and devilishly handsome Maxwell and they uncover a murder plot as Betty and her friends investigate hauntings in their Georgia town. I loved how exciting this storyline was and how it was wrapped up neatly without compromising the characters' growth.

Now, Maxwell, who seems to be amazing but I question his ultimate goal with our girl Boo. Does he have nefarious intentions? Or is his changing? Either way, I'm hooked on this series after these first 266 pages!

Demon does good

This story reminds me of the show "Lucifer" and I loved that show. This lets you believe that Demons walk among us like Angels do- if you believe in that kind of thing. Not all Demons are fully evil, some have a code of honor along with their sense of humor like Maxwell. I love how Betty accepts him yet is sceptical at the same time. It has mystery, danger, humor & romance which to me is a fun & enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing your imagination & talent with your readers, definitely going onto the next book in the series.

I thought this first book of the "Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter Series" was entertaining. The story was charming. The characters were delightful. The mystery was intriguing. There were flashes of humor. My only issue was my own difficulty over the word demon. Can a person fall in love with a demon? Lisa Bozek's narration was fine, and her voice was pleasant. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

ok book

This book is pretty good. I enjoyed the investigation part of it, and even though I predicted the twist and who the bad guy was about halfway through, I thought it was well done. I enjoyed the writing style, and the cute and cozy bits that were thrown in. All said, if you like cozy investigation content, with mostly low stakes and a bit of romance, this is a pretty good book for that.

It was fair

I got into this book really quickly but struggled to stay into it. By the 70% mark it felt like it was mostly filler. The emotions from characters seemed detached and I found out I really don't like my stories to be tied up in a perfect bow. I expected more but I was able to finish the book. I wouldn't personally pick up the second one. Spice level is not really existent if someone is wanting to read for the romance aspect.

I really liked this book, Betty is a ghost hunter on a weekend, for free, who should probably be charging for her services, she gets tangled up with a demon, who she falls for, even though she really shouldn't because he is actually evil, but she falls in love all the same with him and he rescues her quite a few times and helps her out. I want to see how this all pans out and I enjoyed the two ghost stories that are interwined as well and very much a part of the story.

I was hooked from the first chapter. This was a well thought out story with a lot of moving parts. The characters are fantastic. It's funny, has more than one great mystery, and has a budding romance to boot. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down and now I'm diving right into book two! In case I'm being unclear, I highly recommend this book.

Betty "Boo" Boorman has auburn hair and green eyes. Not the first MC with that combination this year, just the first I didn't DNF.

This was cute. I liked it and might read more of the series. It's got everything, unlikely romance, ghost hunting, incipid rival, action. Boo takes on a case of what she believes is a haunting just to find out it was actually a demon. Meanwhile, the only person who can help her is another demon named Maxwell.

A not so bad demon

Betty and her group the Seekers are working together with Carter’s’ group to solve a haunting at Alec’s office ?. Turns out the ghost is trying to warn him. Now Betty is suddenly attacked and saved by a demon. Can he be trusted? She’ll soon find out and could this be the start of something ?

Possible spoiler!

Sooo, a demon who is not so demonic. I like this part. I have 3 stars because I like more closed door no to little spice books. I loved the story line and how the book went, but there were some cracked door (made that up) scenes. Like I said, the door wasn’t completely open, but more spice than what I like to read.

Too many inconsistencies & holes in the plot

While the accessible writing & dialogue made for a very quick read, the romance wasn't believable, the female protagonist performed actions and made decisions that contradicted her internal dialogue for no apparent reason, and the main climax of the story happened "off scene" to be recounted in summary in the aftermath.

2.5. I can appreciate that it’s a cute paranormal story but it was too surface level. It was a quick read with lots of opportunity for deeper level conflict (you’re dating a demon and the cause of your breakup is a clients comment? Really? Ugh the missed opportunities!). Just really wanted more depth and less fluff

Fantastic!

What an amazing start to the series! I absolutely loved the book. The whole ghost investigation team premise was wonderful and relatable since it’s something I used to do. Although without all the danger Betty seemed to attract. I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.

This was a very lighthearted and fun read. Like Stephanie Plum if she was a ghost hunter instead of a bounty hunter and if her boyfriend was a demon instead of a cop. Perfect palate cleanser material, which I needed after a couple of books that wrenched my heart. I enjoyed this book and I’m moving straight on to the next one.

I am not a great writer of reviews, but I try. I really enjoyed this book, which I listened to on audible. It was a little different from the run-of-the-mill ghost novels. I thought it was a little slow at the start, but it kept me intrigued once I got into it. A fun little read.
