The Dom of My Dreams

Rate this book
Marjorie Fordham is just itching to sign up the hottest author in the world into her quaint little publishing house. Well, she’s also itching for other things, to be honest. So what if she finds the author attractive? And so what if he makes an offer she cannot refuse? So what if she accepts? And so what if David J. Seton is everything she has ever wanted in a man? He is a Dominant male with some ulterior motives up his sleeve, something that both terrifies and excites our feisty, independent, love-is-for-needy-chicks-and-not-for-me heroine. She has entered a world of Domination and submission, one she cannot free herself from, no matter how hard she tries to fight it.

I am a writer who likes no-holds-barred erotica. My novel, THE DOM OF MY DREAMS, is a BDSM-themed story with steamy scenes, a complex heroine, a commanding hero with ulterior motives, and a deep story to tell. So, if you like romantic and explicit erotica with a compelling plot, then read THE DOM OF MY DREAMS!

You will notice there are no stars associated with this review. That's because, um, no. No. NO NO NO NO NO NO. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.

Seriously, people got up in arms about Fifty Shades when THIS is out there, representing BDSM? This is not BDSM. There is no trust here. He humiliates her, ignores her when she safe words -- let me repeat, HE IGNORES HER SAFE WORD -- calls her a whore without her permission to be degraded, traps her with another man and refuses to let her leave. TRAPS HER. There are no ground rules. NONE. ZERO. ZIP. The safe word is not a safe word at all -- it's a word she uses to end a relationship. If she safe words, it's over. That is . . . the opposite of a safe word. If you safe word in a relationship where there is trust, you are communicating your limits. This assface makes it sound like it's my way or the highway if you safe word.

He's also sexually harassing her -- LITERALLY, IN THE AWFUL CORPORATE SENSE --- and putting her into illegal positions on the reg. I don't even CARE what happens after that -- which is equally repulsive, by the way -- because the first half is just so humiliating, for the reader, the characters and the author.

This author is a fucking idiot. You, MF Sinclair are a fucking IDIOT. A TRUE IDIOT. I hope you read this and get it, because this is not remotely acceptable representation of that culture. NOPE. NOPE. How insulting. How irresponsible.

(I don't even recognize myself anymore. Is BDSM my thing? No. Am I sitting here defending it like I'm in a D/s relationship? YES I AM. SHUT UP.)

Yep. You are a fucking idiot, MF Sinclair. Sorry to sound trolly, but nope. NOPE. I find this repulsive, and I am not easily repulsed.

No...no...and no. This book had no redeeming qualities. This was slated as a BDSM love story but it was not. This was one of those stories that was not about love or pleasure but about pain, humiliation, cruelty, and manipulation. IMHO, the 'hero' was physically and mentally abusive and the 'heroine' was desperate and unjustifiably trusting. The hero told the heroine that he loved her but he treated her no better than a show pony for most of the book.

The pièce de résistance was overuse of whore and cunt which is an automatic turn-off for me. The choking scene was the final nail in the coffin of this book. There was absolutely nothing romantic or erotic about it. Pure and simple, it was abuse.

The story was not sexy but a sad story of a bitter pair of people who were driven together by a manipulative 'friend'.

I have never read a book where I hated the story and all the characters....this book was the first. I would give it ZERO stars if I could. Definitely in the 'delete and never-to-be-read-again' pile.

I. Loved. This. Book. I couldn't put my Kindle down. I HAD to finish it. I HAD to find out what would happen with Marjorie and Seton.

A lot of women will relate to Marjorie. She was afraid of being hurt, but most of all committing to a relationship. I loved how she struggled to stand up to David Seton, while dealing with her arousal. I did not dislike Seton as it was clear he had an agenda also. I wanted to yell at him for playing his game with Marjorie and my heart ached for her when she struggled with her newfound feelings.

There is plenty of angst throughout the book, and the resolution is not easily reached. I rode the emotional roller coaster with the characters- I laughed, ached, cheered, and was turned on by their trysts. Yes, the sex in this book is hot. There is some BDSM in it, and it was just enough to be awesome, and I am sure it would make a lot of women wanting to meet a DOM like David Seton, who by the way, is hot, hot, hot! The author has provided him with an English accent......nice!

There are emotional and sexual awakenings, and they aren't always easy in this novel. But they are superbly written. M.F. Sinclair takes the reader along for one hell of a ride and I was all too happy to get sucked in.

I recommend this one especially if you like emotion with your hot, hot sex, a strong, but somewhat screwed-up heroine, and one sexy, dominating hero then this book is for you.

This is not what a healthy, sexy, consensual BDSM relationship looks like. I suppose it's well-written, especially if you're comparing it to something like 50 Shades, but it completely fails the basic test of a romance novel in that there was no way I could cheer for these people to get together. Marjorie is a broken woman with tragically low self-esteem who needs massive amounts of therapy before she should be allowed near any kind of interpersonal relationship (including friendship, judging by the friends she chooses) and Seton is a psychopath, pure and simple.

From the first moment we meet him, Seton is an egomaniacal control freak who treats Marjorie like crap. It's later established that he thinks he has good reasons for having done so, but they aren't good enough to justify behaving that cruelly (and emotionally abusively) towards another person. Her consent is meaningless to him and he has no respect for her, so he constantly plows straight through her boundaries as if they're of little consequence. Her self-esteem is so low that she allows this to happen with only token protest, and when she finally does find her backbone, her friends all conspire to undermine her. She is constantly being gaslighted by everyone around her - the people in her life are untrustworthy, but they blame her for not trusting them - and it is absolutely maddening to read. And the author expects me to think that Marjorie deserves this? I can't.

Something really bothered me about Marjorie's relationship with Seton, and I couldn't put my finger on it until I reread the first two chapters: from the moment they meet, Seton behaves less like a lover (even a dominant one) and more like an enemy. That's just creepy.

The first half of this book made me cringe. It was pretty bad between Marjorie's constant whiney self-centered ways and Seton's complete lack of compassion for Marjorie. I can look past the name calling and a bit of humiliation but it got to the point of how Seton was treating her that I was like "Really? You would honestly put up with this crap?" Because I would have walked away almost instantly.

Then half way through the book things change. Something shifts in Seton and Marjorie gets past most of her insecurities. That is until Seton and Jeremy (Marjorie's coworker and friend) betray her trust and her world comes crashing down. Marjorie refuses to have anything more to do with Seton while Seton tries to prove their love is worth taking risks and letting go of past insecurities.

Now, I am one of those people that reads reviews before purchasing any book. I read the good the bad and the down right ugly. And most of the reviews for this book made me uneasy about reading it at all. I actually put off reading it for a few months because I was pretty sure I would hate it. Then I said what the hell? I've got nothing to lose. People were saying "This is not BDSM. This is a horrible representation of the scene" so on and so forth. But in all honesty there was very little BDSM in the book. It is more like an emotional roller coaster. An erotic romance with a dash of suspense and a pinch of BDSM. And, honestly, I ended up enjoying this book a lot. If you do decide to pick this book up just trudge through the first half and know there is something better at the end of the rainbow.

Ugh. After reading "Fifty Shades of Grey," I was in the mood for more smut. This one had good reviews and the price was right: 99 cents. All I can say is, I got what I paid for. This was absolute and utter crap. I think I read one chapter (up through the first sexual encounter); I have since returned it.

I simply could not suspend my disbelief enough to get lost in the story. I mean, really. You're having coffee with a guy you've never met. He propsitions you. You're insulted, so you get up to leave. He yells at you across the room, "SIT DOWN!" and you listen? You think to yourself, "Gee, maybe he's not so bad after all. I'm going to do what he says!"

I realize that smut/erotica is not typically based in reality, but this was just too much. Maybe it gets better, but I'll never know. I couldn't get into the book at all because I was too hung up on the implausibility of the whole situation.

This book is a kind of classic romance novel in which the author has interspersed a few scenes of exhibitionism and one of spanking. A small plot wrap the whole story.
This story is actually much better than Fifty Shades of Grey. I do not understand why FSoG has sold so well when it is so poorly written and this book here is sold only $ 0.99.
Anyway, if you love exhibitionism and romance, you will certainly find your account in The Dom of my Dreams.

This story is about two damaged souls coming together and healing together. It was billed as BDSM, but it is very light. It's more romantic and erotic (in some places). There are some questionable "scenes" in the story, but I think this shows the growth of the relationship and the hardships of keeping a relationship. Marjorie and David are two very messed up people IMO but they do come to learn love and trust, albeit the long way around. The story drags on for an extremely long time with Marjorie whining in most of the dragging parts.

Can't give the story more than 2.5 stars due to some of the questionable "scenes" and Marjorie just needing to be slapped around a bit as she's such a brat. Ugh. I don't know that I'd recommend this story to just anyone.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book. But the title tells it all.
There were some parts where I just thought gosh this guy is a asshole, then he starts to show his soft side. And made the romance between them so much better. I was really excited to finish the book just so I know what is going to happen. I am really wishing there is going to be a sequel, not sure how that would work out since the story line seems finish but you never know and I hope to continue to read more of these two amazing characters.

Well, I was surprised by this. It was a cheap purchase and well worth the money. M.F. Sinclair writes a BDSM romance story that doesn't reveal much romance until the end. It portrays an insecure woman, Marjorie, apparently unaware of how attractive she is physically, and mentally. A woman with a well developed and built up self protection wall, that tries to accept the physical pleasures of sex and her kink of submission while not committing to any relationship emotionally as she fears rejection and hurt. A long comes one writer, David Seton wealthy and famous who seems to epitomise cruelty in the extreme, using Marjorie as a submissive to his natural Dominance as a way of exploring how to chip away at the wall and open Marjorie's vulnerable self., while exposing her to experiencing her fantasies but not committing himself to her in any emotional way. What she thought she wanted she finds hurts terribly when her wall is broken down.
At first I both disliked and liked David, disliked what he was doing, how he was playing with Marjorie psychologically, liked the hot erotic sex and dominant Alpha male.
At first I liked and sympathised with Marjorie but it gets to the state where is she cutting her nose to spite her face scenario and her flaws and fears looked like destroying any hope of happiness. Yes, I sympathised but wanted to shake and wake her too.
It is a clever plot, better than I thought it would be based on price, it is worth far more and is one of the best value for money stories I've bought.. I did enjoy it and it is well thought out. I can understand how some reviewers love it and others not so. At times one or other character will annoy most readers, and in that itself for a reader to be affected emotionally like this is actually a cleverly written story. So well done M.F. Sinclair.
This is a long novel, it has an extended ending for those who like to know how the future pans out for the main and supporting characters. It is of a reasonably good standard of English, and edited.
I considered this for both four and five stars as it is good and is a good 4 star novel for me but just short of 5 stars. I recommend it for those who enjoy BDSM romance with psychological twists.

I have to say, I'm kind of disappointed in goodreads. Their recommendations have always been stellar for me, this is the first Fail.

Because I liked Fifty Shades of Grey it recommended this to me and I don't understand why. This story is NOTHING like it. Seton is an ass who's damaged past is barely brought up and does NOT excuse the treatment he inflicts on this woman. Jeremy is a TERRIBLE friend; to Seton for encouraging him to treat another person this way to "teach them a lesson" and to Marjorie for setting her up to be treated so awfully "to teach her the lesson". She said it best when she said "With friends like you who needs enemies". She isn't without issues either. She's an idiot and a glutton for punishment. Her ability to forgive Seton so easily after every transgression was disturbing to say the least. And in my opinion she was way too eager to submit to him for someone who had NEVER been in a D/s relationship. Seriously, she's already starting to "sit and heel" to his demands at their first meeting for coffee? They barely know each other and she's already dressing up like a whore for their next meeting? Speaking of "whore"....if he would have used that word any more I think I would have thrown my Kindle at a wall. Even while telling her about his feelings he thinks it acceptable because he says "my whore" instead of "a whore", Really?! The only thing I liked about this book was the ending. Seriously. The last chapter and "epilogue" chapter closed up the story nicely without the word "whore" or any degrading treatment. She stopped running away from commitment, he felt guilty for his treatment of her and they reaffirmed their feelings for each other. The epilogue was nice because it told you not only about them but about the other characters they introduced you to in the story who were also interesting. And I'll give the author some props, Seton's dedication to her in his book was cute. Other than that I wish I had done what one of my friends does, read the last two chapters before reading the whole book. If I had done that I wouldn't have wasted this many hours on this book, I would have stopped reading after the first few annoying chapters since I already knew how it ended!

I'm having difficulties reviewing this book. I enjoyed it, but I also had some problems with it.

First, it may have been a bit lengthy. Several sections could have been condensed.

Second, I did think the BDSM was a bit...cruel. I read a lot of BDSM erotica and I don't find it disturbing. I just felt that Seton was not a proper Dom. And though it got better throughout the book, the first few sexual scenes between Seton and Marjorie were uncomfortable. Although Seton was playing to Marjorie's fantasies, his cold, careless demeanor wasn't proper for a Dom and made Marjorie's fascination with Seton seem completely unrealistic.

Third,

Lastly, I am never a fan of the cheesy epilogue and the whole "This is where we all are a year later" crap. The book should have ended when the story ended. The end.

As much as these things bothered me, there were some redeeming qualities to the book. First of all, I thought it was well written. The vocabulary was rich - which is unexpected and refreshing in the sometimes mundane world of erotic fiction. And though I think the story maybe could have been more compelling and better written in the 3rd person, I didn't mind the narration. I thought the most redeeming portion of the writing was in the conveyance of Seton's book. I mean, I could get that he could be a famous author just from the few short paragraphs from his book. I liked it - it really sold it for me.

I also loved the characters. There were a few twists involving them that I didn't like (that whole Mitch/Cambridge scene,) but overall, I thought the characters were well developed. Even Magda has a very "third-string" character had personality and spunk.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes a (somewhat lengthy) love story involving an independent woman who likes to get a little freaky. I don't recommend if you're fragile or easily disturbed though. As I said, some of the sexual scenes paint Seton in a less than attractive light.

I don't know if I can adequately describe how much I loved this book. I. Loved. This. Book. I couldn't put my Kindle down all day because I HAD to finish it. Nothing got done around my house until I found out what would happen with Marjorie and Seton.
This book spoke to everything I've fantasized about. Sorry, TMI. But that's part of why I loved it so much. I could relate to Marjorie. I knew immediately she was afraid of being hurt, of committing. I loved how she struggled to stand up to David Seton, while dealing with her arousal. I never disliked Seton. I wanted to play his game with him and my heart ached for Marjorie when she struggled with newfound feelings.
There was plenty of angst throughout the book, and the resolution is not easily reached. I rode the emotional roller coaster with the characters- I laughed, ached, cheered, and was turned on by their trysts. Yes, the sex in this book is hot. There is some BDSM in it, and it was just enough to be awesome, and make me want to meet a Dom of my Dreams, too. Especially if he's like David Seton, who by the way, is hot, hot, hot! And has a British accent... Hello!!
There are emotional and sexual awakenings, and they aren't always easy in this novel. But they are superbly written. M.F. Sinclair takes the reader along for one hell of a ride and I was all too happy to get sucked in.
I definitely recommend this one if you like emotion with your hot, hot sex. If you want a strong, but somewhat screwed-up heroine, and one sexy, dominating hero.

No, No, Hell no,

Yes, Yes, Yes WTF

This books had me everywhere, I loved it and I hated it. I almost broke my Kindle over Marjorie.

It was like a sick obsession and in some chapters it feel like I was having an overdose.

The book follows David J. Seton, a best selling author that moved to Northampton, Massachusetts. While in Northampton he is focused in writing his third novel and like all big selling author everyone wants to become his publisher.

Marjorie works at Book A to Z a small publishing house (to be honest the only one in the town). Marjorie is a strong independent woman that is looking for some submission.

For years she has focused her life to just casual encounters and nothing more, no romance, no love just physical relationships.

But when she meets David J. Seton a strong Dom you will think she had found what she needed/wanted. Through this relationship Marjorie will experience pleasure, satisfaction, heart break, pain, humiliation and love.

Be warned that for 25% of the book you are going to want to scream WTF not because of the characters or the authors writing (the writing is crazy good) but because of the way David treats Marjorie. As the story developed you can see why he acts the way he does and you will love him and will end up wanting to kill Marjorie.

"Funny how childhood has a way of raring its evil head when you think you're all grown up and past the entire BS!!!! WRONG!!!"

And I completely agree with you Debbie

After reading some very positive reviews from other Goodreads members, I am very sorry to say that I didn't like this at all. I have to confess that I got to the point where I just wanted it to be over, so I skimmed the last 40% to see what happened in the end.

I really tried, but I a couldn't warm to either the Hero or Heroine and the games they played with each other left me wondering how a relationship could be salvaged from this mess. For me, Marjorie's behaviour was all over the place. She was really mad one minute and then forgiving being treated terribly the next. The scene where she confronts Jeremy over his part in everything was a good example of this. I could not understand or keep up with her rapid change in emotions.

This book was quite well written and the love scenes were actually very good. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to make me like it any more.

One very distracting thing was that I felt the language used by Seton and his sister was off. They had a very strange use of words that had me turning to my husband saying 'read that...where in England do people talk like that?'. Obviously, just being English myself does not give me the monopoly on knowing how English people speak, but it really stood out as an odd use of language and did contribute to my overall dislike of the book.

As far as I can tell its an either leave it or love it book.Yes the book starts off as the Hero (Seton) being all domineering and calling her names ect. But then there are always those small moments where it seems forced and the author writes it too, she gives you ton of clues from the beginning about his wishy washy nature of being totally caring and domineering at the same time but then cold and elusive later on in the night. The fact that I think some readers just didn't clue into from the beginning and then I guess your opinions just form from there. But that's OK its not everyone's cup of tea. I felt like this book was a roller coaster on my emotions. Sometimes I wanted to scream at Marjorie because she was just so self centered and clueless about what was going on around her. I think I might like it better than 50 Shades of Grey series (gasp I know!) But Marjorie seems more real to me as a women as a character, than some of these other characters in these types of books. But I guess yeah this book isn't for the feint at heart, there are public sex scenes, stages, a menage, and other crazy things this author could have thought of. But all in all it was a fucked up love story, but those are the best to read anyways right?

Spoiler Ahead
I have had this book on my tbr list for over two years and I don't know why it took me so long to read this book it was a really good book. Marjorie Fordham has been dying to sign a hot new writer David J. Seton to her small publishing house. David is also a Dom and he wants Marjorie to submit to him and she agrees. This book had a lot going on in it male on male and female on female as well as humiliation. This book wasn't like most BDSM stories that I have read and at times I felt that I wanted to hit David he was cold at times and he had a sadistic streak. Marjorie sees men as nothing but a sex organ she doesn't love her lovers she is to afraid to even get close to them. David and Marjorie's first sexual encounter was hot and the second one even better. This book had a few twist in it that I didn't see coming. This was my first time reading this author but not my last. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more of this authors work.

Really enjoyed this book. It was more of a romantic erotica book with themes of BDSM, yet it was different than the usual overcoming conflict to reach HEA. The Dom of My Dreams: A BDSM Novel ( which I believe is the worst thing about the book~the title) had some plot twists and turns that I had not expected...and for a hardcore reader like me, that is hard to do. There was a lot of resistance from the main female character (Marjorie), which usually is a bothersome trait for me if it continues throughout the book. But, there are deeper issues at play between Marjorie, Senton (main male character), and messages tunneled into her psyche from her past. Senton is no saint either. I was left wondering if there was to be a HEA or if there even should be. I am not saying, you need to read the book...but I will say that the author should have stopped and not done an epilogue chapter. It took all the emotion away ended flat...so just skip it and let yourself wonder and feel.

wait a minute. There is jewelry out there no one told me about? A nipple chain. Must have now. I can not believe I didn't know about this.

besides the nipple chain, this book had other elements I really like in a book
1)the lead never loses his alpha, very few books have this
2) a relationship based plot with some interesting twists, no paranormal or suspense
3) long enough for good character development
4) I liked the way Marge absorbed the revelations in the book, lots of time to ponder what just happened

Negatives: -it did have some typos
-it was sort of edgy (borderline ridiculous) with the graphic sex scenes, you sort of just have to accept some stuff like that for the sake of fantasy. I don'tm ind being shocked with that stuff.
- absolutely hate the name marjorie and not crazy about seton either as a name.

I'm sorry I waited to read this book but it was very well worth the wait. I loved this story.

Marjorie is a editor at a small publishing company when along comes writer Mr. Seton. He doesn't just bring his writing skills into Marjorie's life but his very dominate ways. Marjorie has been a woman who doesn't want sex with strings attached and has always gone out of her way to do just that. No one has ever come along that she has found that caught her attention but now that someone has she's not sure how to handle it.

The love that these two experience was not what either was looking for but in the end it was both of them had needed.

This story is a love story since both find their love for each other in the end but the journey to get there is taking a not so conventional way.

WOW! That was really hard to read. Not because it was erotic/BDSM, but because it had some very uncomfortable moments. Not just uncomfortable but mean, and heartless. I honestly couldn't put the book down though, I had a hard time stopping, I had to know what happened next and how this darn thing would end.

It not really all the much of a BDSM novel, its more of a sex, sex and more sex, and D/s novel. But the story line is the hook and will reel you in.

In the end I really really enjoyed the book, but it was hard to get to the end without some tears.

I really don't know if I can write an adequate review for this book. It was an incredibly erotic, unnerving, and angsty ride! I can absolutely promise you won't like the "hero" for much of the book. The plot will have you saying 'WTF' at every turn. That said, I absolutely loved it! Kudos to M.F. Sinclair. I hope there will be more books from this author in the future!

3.5 ★ really...

First of all the name is misleading...this is barely BDSM light, really just a dominant guy with some toys and a bad attitude...but he changes and she changes and that's the crux of the story. Both are emotionally stunted, both are manipulative and somewhat unlikeable in the beginning of the book. The changes, the betrayals, the revelations make for a good read.

I am conflicted about this book. It was a very quick read and I got into the plot line immediately. I appreciated it's many twists and turns along the way. However, this book seemed like a mainstream book with a little BDSM thrown in for an extra added kick. Too many times I found myself thinking, hey wasn't this in another book? This book was a fun read, albeit not very thought provoking.

What a pleasant surprise this book was! I bought it on a whim for my Kindle, and damn, what a great story. There where plenty of "whaaaaaat?! moments in this book, and some "oh, no he didn't?!" ones too...which I highly enjoyed! And for the ending...perfect!! I'm a happy gal =) (4.5 stars)
