Recipes are amazing and very authentic! Every time I create a dish it brings back wonderful memories of my mother’s cooking. (She was Hungarian, born in Budapest)
For the life of me, I can’t remember why I bought this book. It was either for the poppyseed dessert recipes a friend requested or because the author was visiting The Four Seasons-Philadelphia while I was a pastry chef there. Classic recipes for a fantastic cuisine where the crossroads of Europe & the Ottoman Empire met.
When I was a little kid, my mom had a copy of this book that she used in the kitchen and she used quite often. By the time I got married her copy was falling apart, pages coming out, the duck jacket was frayed. There were stains no doubt from many times it sat next to the paprikash pot.
So many of the classic meals my mom made for us at home came from this little book, but more so they started with this book. Goulash, homemade dumplings, paprikashes, soups, sauces, and roasts, they started here and then my mom worked her magic over time making them even better.
I got my own copy as a wedding gift and I hope one day that my copy will be falling apart, stained, and frayed from all the great years of cooking with it.
A good collection of easy Hungarian recipes for all skill level of cooks. Many traditional recipes are included. A good addition to the library of the cook interested in ethnic foods.
