I have mixed feelings (as usual, right?!)
The first 3/4 of the book got me hooked. Completely. Here I was, ready to write a great review, comparing it in my mind to Gone Girl (although I hated Gone Girl, but you know what I mean).
I was anxious, expecting so much, I was almost biting my nails.
And then

UGH
The last pages.
I'll give them 0.05 stars.
Hated HATED the ending.

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce...your woman is a first class jerk.

This book did not romance me. If you want to read a book about a dissolving marriage and a manhunt for a missing spouse read Cathi Hanauer's Gone. Similar premise, but somehow comes off as more real, and the wife in that particular novel as far less of an a-hole.

It's a bad story. Poorly written. Both characters are dumb. Don't bother to read it.

3.75 out of 5. It's a difficult novel to read but it is rich with the nuances of a relationship not unlike what many experience in real life. It's two people who seem to be together and yet so much of their relationship remains hidden. It's almost as if they are living in parallel universes rather than truly being involved in each other's lives. Bruce finds out a ton of stuff about his wife, now missing, but he also finds out a ton of stuff about himself. This is a re-release and updated story and contains lots of adult stuff. Most of all it is a love story that is edgy and filled with angst and disappointment, yet there is something that holds Bruce and his wife together. I can't say this is "my kind" of romance, but it was compelling in its honesty and for that reason I think it has real value as a very thought-provoking piece of romance fiction.
