Track is brought in to investigate a new style of piracy occurring more and more often in the Caribbean where drug runners, needing fast vessels with no history of smuggling, are hijacking pleasure boats and killing the crews. It is Track's mission to find the ones behind the scheme.
I was a little leery about this book. Jerry Ahern wrote the first ten books. I missed book eleven. So this was my first book by Patrick Andrews. I was pleasantly surprised. The action was top notch. I enjoyed every page.
The story starts off with two couples cruising the Spanish Main looking for a bit of adventure. They come across some nefarious characters who are involved in a boat stealing, drug running gang. They are killed and their boat taken and put to use in their dealings. The consortium, a group of insurance companies want to find them. Lucky for them Dan Track is one of their investigators. Track and company find that the conspiracy runs from Florida to Haiti and back to Jamaica. He's out to stop it before any more boats and people are done in.
Like I said before, this book was as good as any the Mr. Ahern wrote. I am a fan of Jerry, but not a big enough fan to know why he stopped writing this series for Gold Eagle. Maybe I should look into it. The one thing that I can say is that it does have the feel of someone new at the typewriter. The main characters are slightly different. Not much but I can tell. It's not in a bad way. Looking forward to the last book in this series, lucky 13.
