I was a smokejumper for the majority of my career. Flinging out of planes at 15,000 feet and hoping to land with my bones in tact and a plan to slay wildfire quickly, safely, and with my crew all in one piece.
Ainsley was a regular firefighter. You know, the kind who lives in town, rides in a truck, and wields a hose to save houses and hotels.
We were a match made in adrenaline junky heaven. Or so they said.
But fate wasn’t ready to let me have my happiness just yet, because one shitty summer day, the dragon was too hot, and Ainsley’s death would be the singular event that would leave me a broken man.
That was all awhile ago now. But the thing about tragedy is that folks have long memories and I, zero patience for sympathy or busybodies.
These days, I keep to myself. I stay in, read a book, and I absolutely do not socialize.
Unfortunately, not all events can be avoided without creating enemies, and in this town, those enemies can leave you wishing you were dead. As a result, I find myself holed up in a dark corner of what others call a masked ball. Identities are being hidden. Faces are covered. I expected to hate every annoying minute of this mess. But for the first time in a long time, with a mask shielding my identity, I’m able to exist without the gloom of death sitting on my shoulders.
Then she walks in. Rosy blush. Stunning gown. Curves that make my mouth water. And just enough attitude to stand up to my bad mood.
One night. No names. No faces. And no tomorrows.
What could go wrong?

DNF @ 66% I literally skimmed up to this point bc it took THAT long for the two mains to get together. We get robbed of their first time as it jumps to months later without us, the readers, experiencing it with them. Not even a glimpse. THEN, up to this point, its internal monologues galore (HATE!!!) either about the h and her being an anti-social introvert, of the H being a grieving asshole. 1.5*EF you are losing me as a fan*stars!!!
Two people cross paths at a masked ball in a small town. “Jump” and “Ana” both wish they could be the person they were that night.
Vivian is searching for a new roommate, but she’s an introvert who runs a dog rescue 12 hours a day and would rather read a book than interact with people. Matteo is a former smokejumper whose firefighting girlfriend died in a fire not too long ago, thinks he’s over it, but wants to protect every female he encounters. When his frenemy’s girlfriend/Vivian’s former roommate basically pushes Matteo into becoming Vivian’s new roommate, things get a little weird, especially since Viv and Matt had their moment as Jump and Ana.
I enjoyed this book and liked seeing a romance between two introverted people. That they bond over reading and nights in was a big plus. You don’t always have to go big and go out. I wasn’t overly fond of the ways Matteo dealt with his grief. I wanted to smack him a few times because of his misogynistic attitude, but I also get that it was his way of coping with emotion he didn’t want to deal with. Vivian had her annoying moments, too, since she had to deal with her own feelings about dating someone who has lost a partner. There are quite a few crossover cameos from Emilia Finn’s other stories which also is a huge plus and kept a smile on my face! Overall though, I liked the story and will read it again.
Grumpy supposedly introverted hero, feisty, supposedly shy heroine. Full of snappy dialogue and insta lust romance with lots of drama. Well written, with excellent chemistry between the MCs. Many steamy sex scenes.
My only negative view, is that this author's various heros and heroines do tend to be very similar from book to book. (Meaning the names change, but personalities, intense banter, chemistry, speech patterns etc are identical. Rinse/repeat.) Just my observation after reading so many of Ms Finn's books. I won't stop reading them though.
Ruizzzzz! Oh my heart! I am so happy he finally got his well deserved HEA. I loved everything about this book. Ruiz and Viv’s love doesn’t come easy but it’s SO worth it. Ruiz loves sooo hard. And as an introvert myself they were both so relatable to me 😆 Grab your tissues and jump in! You don’t want to miss these two ♥️🔥
I struggled with this read and I’m not sure if it’s because I read it out of order without reading the prior books in this series? The author has listed this as a standalone but there are, as with Ms Finn’s stories a lot of crossover characters so I did struggle with not knowing who the support characters were. The story was okay but just didn’t grab me as other series.
Jump is the fourth book in the Lost Boys series by Emilia Finn, featuring the much-anticipated second act story for Lieutenant Matteo Ruiz. After suffering the ultimate loss in the death of his girlfriend Ainsley Cootes in a previous book, Ruiz has crawled through the stages of grief, convinced that he’ll never feel anything for another woman again. Until a beautiful and intriguing woman walks into a masquerade party. They agreed to one night with no real names… Just Jump and Ana being together with no expectations. Neither was prepared for the spark between them or the depth of their connection. They weren’t prepared to be thrown together again either. Is their connection strong enough to withstand the chaos of Ruiz’s emotional baggage?
Whew! This one packs a punch! Ruiz started stealing my heart way back when we first met him, but he definitely stole my attention when I read Axel’s book, Crash & Burn. My heart hurt for him as he struggled with his grief. Though, I’ll admit there were moments I was yelling at him over his misogynistic tendencies. I mean, I get it, in his wounded thought process he was being protective, but damn! Get with the times, man!😂 As always, the Rollertown world brings a phenomenal cast of characters to add witty banter, a little action, drama, some laughs, and all the support a situation requires. I love a book that can have me tear up, laugh out loud, and blush from the spicy scenes all in one story. This one definitely did that! There was one particular character who ended up being a hilarious addition to the story, and I cannot wait to read his story!! It will be epic!

🔥 🐶 🎭 🌟 BOOK REVIEW 🌟 Jump by Emilia Finn 🎶 Rescue Me - Marshmello & A Day To Remember
When tragedy hits (a tragedy which was portrayed in two other of Emilia’s books) Matteo runs from his life and falls into a grumpy cold demeanor. It isn’t until a chance meeting at a masquerade birthday party that anyone can catch his eye and make him feel again. Vivian, or Ana for the night, finds herself out of her element as the shy introvert lets loose in the comfort of the man who goes by Jump. It’s just one night and 100% anonymous, never to interact again.
Problem was, their friends needed their spaces back. Which led to Matteo and Vivian becoming roommates despite tension running high. It was never the plan to be more, yet neither has gotten over that night months prior.
Their bond grew, and with both being introverts, books and food were the connecting link. Essentially it was like a mini books club and damn…. I loved these two for it! Plus, Matteo brings back another roller from a prior series and really hits his head on straight. Going for what he wants, Vivian and Matteo fall hard.
There isn’t a true Third act breakup here, but there will be tears and sadness. Trust me, a broken Matteo can’t have smooth sailing. Yet, despite his crankiness, I loved everything about him. Including his reluctant bromance with Axel. Overall, Vivian and Matteo together are the best thing and introvert could ask for.
We have waited patiently for this lost boy to speak - like a whole other series and more worth a wait. And y’all, he was totally worth every single minute of it. Ruiz was first introduced in Chasing Fire as the hot smokejumper that did a training for Nixon’s crew and then fell in love with Ainsley Cootes. Then tragedy struck and we didn’t hear about Ruiz again until he came back in Axel’s book, Crash and Burn. He came back with a vengeance and a grudge.
Witnessing Ruiz work through his tragedy and grieving process both hurt and made me so happy. All he wants to do is move on and be left alone, but the people around him cannot grasp the concept. The scenes where Ruiz spoke up and was vulnerable were heartfelt and evoked such intense emotion. I felt like I was right there with him in his pain and cheering him on for his breakthrough.
Vivian is a great match for him. She understands his need for solitude and doesn’t push when he’s prickly. Yet at the same time Viv is a balance and a light in his darkness. Vivian truly brings Ruiz back to life and they shine so brightly together. I devoured this book. The world that Emilia has created is one that I want to revisit over and over again. Thankfully with how interconnected her series are, we get to home again every time. And we also get surprise appearances from our old favorite characters in the process.
Cannot wait to see what happens with this crew in the future. They are never far from my mind!
“Jump” temporarily moves to town after losing his girlfriend in a horrific fire. He’s a broken man who’s moody, quiet, rude and just wants to keep to himself while he figures things out.
“Ana” is a shy, quiet young woman who owns a dog shelter, is an introvert, loves to read and prefers nights at home.
One night they attend a mutual friends birthday party and meet. One night only was all it was supposed to be….. until a few months later when “Ana” suddenly needs a new roommate.
I loved this book because instead of opposites attract, they are alike in more ways than one. He’s kind of the grumpy man who’s navigating through his grief and the meaning to his life. While she is definitely more sunshine, but in a quiet, reserved way and has compassion. The way their relationship is throughout most of the book is not conventional either but you really begin to understand why and feel for these characters on a deep level. There are issues of death and grief but it’s important to the story and laid out in a realistic way. I really couldn’t put this book down…. It’s a great read!
Tropes: roommates, small town, enemies to lovers, slow burn, grumpy/sunshine, alpha hero, death, grief, firefighter
Wow! I was dying to read Matteo’s story when I was reading Crash and Burn, and I am not disappointed! Matteo is like a walking paradox. He’s hurting and yet healed at the same time. He’s a complete a$$ and the most intuitive and caring man ever. All he wants to do is take care of and protect the people he cares about.
Viv and Matt together were beautiful! I loved this couple! I loved that they talked and traded books! I loved that they traded out date nights! I loved that they brought out the best in each other. I just loved them! But mostly I loved how Matt completely understood Viv from the night he met her as a stranger.
I highly recommend this book! The plot line was amazing although, I will suggest to check the trigger warning as it deals with Matteo healing with the loss of his first love. The spice level was chefs kiss. In my opinion it was the perfect amount for the plot and storyline. I feel like this one had more spice than Crash and Burn, but in reality I’m not sure if that’s the case. There were at least three scenes, and some spicy talk.
Jump and Ana, one wonderful, marvellous and most importantly, anonymous night. Two strangers finding everything they need in each other.
Matt and Vivian, both with memories of an amazing evening with a stranger, now trying to deal with their everyday lives and past trauma.
Wow Matt is a complete alphahole on the surface, but boy does he have his gooey side and he loves to read. Vivian needs someone to appreciate her for herself, yet push to address her issues.
Who doesn't love the idea of one amazing night, no strings, no pretending, it's so delicious and the author captures all the doubts, romance and letting go. Yet where this story held my attention was the reality that followed, those small moments leading to something 'more'. There's humour, tears, jealousy, possessiveness, misunderstandings and a combined love of books! What's not to love.
This is the fourth book in this incredible series, and this is Ruiz and Vivian’s journey. Ruiz is a broken man grieving the loss on his firefighter girlfriend and prefers living in solitude and no socializing. When Ruiz must attend a masked ball, he is drawn to a woman there, and they agree to spend a night together with no names exchanged, and the sparks fly between them. Vivi is the light to Matteo’s darkness and is a ray of sunshine in his life. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with roommates / lovers, loss, grief, friendships, humor, witty banter, healing, challenges, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, haunting, and heartfelt, small-town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Thanks for the ARC opportunity for the author. As always, this is a voluntary, honest review.

Tropes:
❤️ small town ❤️ grieving MMC ❤️ introvert FMC/MMC ❤️ alpha
This was a sweet story, even if I really, really struggled hard with how misogynistic Ruiz was. I just couldn't get over it. I also couldn't get over how Vivian said she was disappointed in him because of who he was aka he had a dead girlfriend and not once she apologized for saying that. It wasn't cute and it almost made me DNF on spot.
But other than that, it's a nice story about two introverts and a small town up in their business. Ruiz loves hard, Vivian's insecurities fight harder. In the end, all that matters that they come over all the obstacles and get their HEA.
I mean…c’mon Emilia Finn!! Like you ripped my heart out all through this book and put it back together again! Like I’ve had my faves, but Matteo Ruiz just stole my heart!
Best parts for me:
1) when Ruiz tells Feeney he’s going to call June Bug to tell her there’s a dinner party going on without her!
2) Thanksgiving Dinner…GTFOOH! Drake Banks…might as well call him “Spank” Banks 🤣🤦🏻♀️ he’s too good.
3) when Nix calls him officer sluts-a-lot or something like that! I spit my drink out!
4) all the times that Viv and Matt sit there and discuss the books!
I’ve followed Matteo Ruiz for what feels like years and his book has been long anticipated. It did not disappoint! Watching him lose the woman he loves not once, but twice was painful. Watching him heal and find peace with the selfless Viv.. that was incredible! Beautiful even. Not only did their story completely crush my soul, it filled my heart with so much love, acceptance and hope. From feeling like she was second best to learning she is his one and only one. With some anarchy, grief and hard, fast. love.. sometimes you just simply have to Jump.
Emilia Finn has done it again! Just when you think it couldn't get any better, here comes Matteo Ruiz with a bad attitude that you can't help but love & hope he doesn't mess things up too badly with the sassy Vivian. She with the bleeding heart meets her match in he of all things broken. Amazing read...hard to put down! And God bless Jack Reilly. His heartfelt words hit home. It was great seeing small glimpses of the Roller & Checkmate crew. Thank you Emilia for get another fantastic read! Now John to the ever-so-flirty manwhore Drake Banks - it'll be interesting to see exactly what his deal is!
This was an intense and complex story that will hook you from beginning to end. Dealing with an emotional trauma, being angry at the world and everyone in it, trying to figure out what life is supposed to look like now, as well as trying to accept a new job, it's more than he can handle. Being an introvert, caring for all of the fur-babies is her life, loosing her roommate/bff, and trying to acclimate to her new reality, as well as her new roommate. Lol! Will their fantasy come true, or will this be the worst possible match? I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I really enjoyed this story. You have two people that were heroes in their field but were introverted. Matt had problems dealing with his girlfriend’s death and thought he was handling it. Viv loved rescuing dogs. The author did an excellent writing on the struggles they both had and on how they worked to get where they wanted to be - together. It wasn’t easy but they worked for it and got it. Beautifully written. Really enjoyed seeing the characters from her earlier books.
Oh em gee, emilia finn does it again, but then again she always does. If you have already read this book and every other EF book, ever! I thought Axel the fire fighter was great, an then with him and previous books we met Ruiz, and I could not wait for his story, and Finn did not disappoint. I loved thw connection he has with everyone, including Axel and how he pretends to hate him. This book was amazing from start to finish. And I want more jump and Anna but also love ruiz and Viv.
While I did enjoy this book, the FMC started to really grind my gears. Everyone handles grief differently and I felt she just wouldn’t let go on how Ruiz was dealing with it. The way she kept bringing up the ex was annoying after awhile. I was a huge fan of how the book was based on two introverts! Staying home with a wine and a book under a cozy blanket is mega appealing to many! Not everyone enjoying going over the top “go big or go home” types and for that this is a win!
Man. Matteo Ruiz is like the perfect blend of Angelo and Jon with a little all of the rollers thrown in. Jump and Ana are a match made in Rollertown heaven. Glimpses of the gym and all those we have all grown to love over the last 50+ books bring this story right into the fold of the amazing world Emilia Finn has created. Jump will not leave you disappointed. I'm already counting down the days to the next in this series!
I love Matteo Ruiz! I love that we saw some of our besties from the other series. I love that he got popped by the world champion. I love that this review is so vague that anyone who reads needs to go read ALL of Emilia’s books to understand it.
I love Emilia Finn! I love her brain and her ability to make me live in all these different worlds. This books is just another episode in my imaginary life. So damn good!
For this book, we get to know Vivian and Ruiz, former roommates to the last book’s couple. They meet anonymously and have a night of spicy fun but then end up being forced to live together. Ruiz is battling old demons and Viv is an introvert with a big heart. Some of our favorites make appearances to either lend some guidance or cause commotion for this new couple. Emilia had me rooting for this couple from the beginning. Another 5 star.
Ok so you're probably not going to like the boy here. But at the same time you're going to love him and want to give him a great big hug. And our girl is a sucker to lost things with a great big heart and a love of fuzzy socks and furry tails. You cry, you get mad, you want to sucker punch him, but ultimately he's a really likeable guy who thankfully finds a HEA. Plus we see some town friends peacocking around. I sacrificed sleep to get to the end.
I have liked a lot of what this author creates, but this series must not be for me. This book was ok. I thought it’d be pretty good when I read the first part, but then it was overly focused on their anti-social or grumpy personality quirks. Viv was a bit annoying with her issues comparing herself to Ainsley. The over protectiveness to women vibe that he gave off just didn’t sit right and obviously taken to the extreme with his lady firefighter teammate. All in all, this was just an ok read.
Ruiz and Vivian hit me right in the feels over and over again! They are two introverted people after my own heart, but also two of the most stubborn people who have trouble communicating with each other. Matteo and Viv are both heroes in their own ways, and I absolutely loved every moment, every tear, and every laugh of them finding their way to each other.
Emilia Finn your stories inspire greatness!! Matteo Ruiz experiences incredible heartbreak and loss. Vivian “Ana” Doyalson with all her introverted personality has an iron will, independent, compassionate, and cooks a mean lamb dinner. Matteo and Vivian are #relationshipgoals
So good. I felt so many things in this book. Sad. Mad. Happy. Pissed. Scared. This was so damn good. I absolutely adore Matt. Plus the visit to the Rollin on Gym. And Bobby and Kit. And Jack and Bean. And Sophia. My goodness. Emilia’s books always suck me in, destroy me in all the best ways. And leave me desperately impatient for the next one.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved all of the characters and felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster with all of the different emotions I felt while reading this book. It felt like it took me no time at all to finish the book as my attention was instantly grabbed. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
