The Translator as Communicator argues that the division of the subject into literary and non-literary, technical and non-technical and so on, is unhelpful and misleading. Instead of dwelling on these differentials, the authors focus on what common ground exists between these distinctions. Basil Hatim is a theorist in English/Arabic translation and a translator/interpreter. He has worked and lectured at universities worldwide and has published extensively on applied linguistics, text linguistics translation/interpreting and TESOL. He has authored or co-authored several books. He has served on the editorial boards of several major journals and has published some 50 papers in a diverse range of international refereed journals.

I had to read this book for an exam, I have to say it was kinda difficult to put in order all the concepts in it, specially if like me, have to say it in that way, but the thing is that at end it was not necessary because I was asked in a more practical way. I know that in future or maybe right from now will have to read lots of books like this one, so I just hope to find another like this with lots of examples. Translating is an art! Is like the gift of speaking more than one languages in such an easy way, but it's always important to collect all the data other translators have made before you to do not make the same mistakes, or better to do it better, you never know!
