After a scarecrow kidnaps Daphne while she and and her friends are investigating a mystery involving a maze made from corn, Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, and Velma must find the villainous scarecrow and rescue her.
Just as much fun as one of the old Hanna-Barbera episodes.
EDIT: The adventures of "those meddling kids" have been a favorite of mine for over two decades. While I'm not a fan of some of the recent turns the franchise has taken--Scooby Apocalypse, anyone?--the old-school mysteries have a timeless charm. A while back, I tried reading some comic book Mystery, Inc., stories, and was rather disappointed; they were like Cliff's Notes versions of the episodes, which were short enough as it was. However, these James Gelsey novels are true to the original cartoons; I think even Hanna and Barbera would approve.
ANOTHER EDIT: If you were disturbed by Mindy Kaling's butchering of the Mystery, Inc., gang, then you should check these out; they're much truer to the original series, and wouldn't make Hanna and Barbera turn in their graves.
I really enjoyed this book. It was one of my favorites in the series so far. It was a great fall book with a fun mystery. The story flowed well and didn’t seem rushed like some of the others have. My only complaint is that some of the pictures were still odd or didn’t quite match the words of the story. Overall it was still a good book but the illustrations definitely could have been better.
So far this is my favourite from the series. The monster was in it a good amount, shaggy and scooby were not the only characters involved. The setting was classic and spooky. Perfect little scooby doo story for kids.
This was a fun fall-themed Scooby-Doo! mystery. This appears to be an original Scooby-Doo! plot in which Scooby and his friends investigate a scarecrow that appears to be haunting a corn maze. I believe Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Scarecrow cartoon released in 2013 may have been loosely based on this story.
I quite enjoyed this mystery as it provided enough suspects to make the mystery slightly more difficult for young readers to solve.
---------------------------------------------- Part of a personal challenge to read all of my boyfriend's and his sister's childhood books before we donate and give them away.
We love all things Scooby-Doo, so whenever we find a Scooby-Doo book we haven't read yet at our local library, we just have to borrow it. The stories in the Scooby-Doo! Mysteries series are simple, fun, and we enjoy reading them together.
Right now, our girls really like these short chapter books, but they also like the shorter picture books too. We've read so many of these stories I've lost count, but there are so many more out there...I think we'll be having fun with these stories for years to come.
This story is rather simple and involves a trip to a farm with a corn maze and a scary scarecrow (and lots of food, of course!) It was a quick read and we enjoyed reading it together.
This chapter Scooby Doo book was a little disappointing, it was really drawn out so it seemed like it went on and on about nothing, throughout the middle of the story. It would have been a good book had it not done that. The storyline was a pretty good one so if you can endure two chapters of talking about pretty much the same stuff then you'll like this story. Also you can pretty much figure out who did it right after that character is introduced. :( Not one of the better stories. However still Scooby Doo... what can you not like about it.
