An encyclopedic, but loving, description of the seashore...from New England to the Carolinas. Want to know about the sex lives of mollusks? The many varieties of almost indistinguishable birds? The ecology of sand dunes? How to treat a jelly fish sting? The answers, and much more, are here...all described with an underlying twinkle in the author’s voice. I will never again take my walks on beaches for granted.

It took me a long time to finish this book. It is a good book, great if you want to know more about the Atlantic coast. However, no one will ever accuse the author of writing a suspense filled, exciting book. So I read this between other books, I did not read it cover to cover.

However, I will probably hang on to this book, unlike many that I read. Even though this was written 30 years ago, Kopper's information about the beaches, the fish, the birds and all the flora is excellent.

This is a good reference book.
