From the creator of the New York Times bestsellers Heads and Dog. Oink, cluck, squeak, moo . . . cock-a-doodle-doo! Ingeniously designed flaps and pull tabs, accompanied by pettable textures, offer a flock of interactive fun in this innovative introduction to the habits and distinctive voices of seven species of barnyard residents. Toddlers will delight in identifying and imitating each critter!
My View: This is delightful book – perfect for the babies and toddlers in your life. It has all the features I look for in a young child’s book - hard covered, thick heavy cardboard pages, tactile elements, bright and engaging photographs and is also a useful aid for language development.
As your child grows they will appreciate more of the elements this book has to offer. A fun and engaging book!
This is a perfectly lovely book. I am just grouchy and tired of farm animals. Unmooved by Moo.
Also, I think our copy came off the bargain table because one of the chickens is missing her head and so when you pull the tab, the little pivoting wheel goes back and forth on top of a headless chicken which bothers my sense of tidiness and order. I'm thinking of printing off a picture of a chicken, cutting off its head, and gluing it on, just so I can stop obsessing.
I other one of my kids favorites. They love the action pages and the feels. The clever rhymes are kind of fun. Don't let your kids get a hold of the book too early., else the chicken is liable to lose his head.
Nice photos of domestic animals, with a tiny mouse on every page. For young kids. Very robust. "Furry" parts, moving parts, windows, pop-ups... Bought it in Washington DC.
This was his favorite book since day one, only since he’s been a year and a half it’s been knocked down but we read this book multiple times a day everyday
Yesterday Betsy Bird was reviewing board books. So, when I found myself in the library later on, of course I took the time to walk over and see what was on display. I haven't looked at new board books in a while, and I forgot to see what Sandra Boynton had out (whoops), but this one was on prominent display. We had a favorite by Van Fleet back in the day.
And you know what? Even when there is no toddler in the house, board books are still fun to read. the construction of the tabs is very clever, so only one piece had suffered the degradation to which board books are heir. It was cute, it was funny, you could amuse yourself looking our for the little mouse. And, when I placed my stack of library books up on the counter, then later, in my bag, and the stack went "squeak", be assured, we all laughed.
My daughter loves this book! It is a very interactive book with every kids favorite animal noises. There are pop ups touch and feels, rhyming, beautiful illustrations and even a squeaky duck.
Christmas gift for my careful 2 year old. Paper pages- flaps to lift, pull, unfold. Vocabulary up to a 5-6 year old level. Good for reading and independent exploration.
