Very readable and enjoyable introduction to Ulysses. Opens with chapters on the historical context of the novel and an excellent overview of the critical history and then follows up with 5 really excellent chapters on 5 important themes in Ulysses - Arrangements of Reality which explores how Joyce shows events from different angles, A Comedy of Errors on the mistakes in the book (deliberate, of course, on Joyce's part), Dublin Alligators on rumour in Ulysses, a chapter on the Irish, Jewish and Greek identities of Bloom and a fascinating chapter on reading in Ulysses.

No jargon, no obfuscation, this is the study of English literature as it should be done. Highly recommended to any fan of Joyce and Ulysses.
