Ten years ago Trace Walker was the hottest country music superstar on the charts—until he pulled a disappearing act. The singer-turned tycoon prefers his privacy and he is not thrilled to be the subject of a “Fallen Stars” segment aired by a local television station. When the host for the show, Claire Carson, won’t drop the proposed follow up segment, Trace doesn’t get mad—he buys the station and Claire’s contract.
If Trace thinks he can tell Claire what to do, he can just think again. The talk show host didn’t sweep the ratings on her smile alone. Now she will need every ounce of her determination and people savvy to win this power struggle. She has never met a man so infuriating…so deliciously handsome…and so completely lonely. Claire’s desire to win is suddenly second to her need to touch Trace’s heart.

One of the first things I noticed about this book, was that it was riddle with typos. And it's the kind of typos that easily could have been caught by an editor. These mistakes weren't just at the beginning or in parts of the book. No, they were throughout the whole book. For someone who notices these things, it makes for an very annoying read.
The plot itself wasn't very original, and it didn't exactly deliver what I expected from the blurb. I was promised a sexy country star - I got the sexy all right, but the country star was a no-show. Oh there were constant references to his past as a country star, but he wasn't headed back that way. With a blurb that is written the way it is written, that is one of the things you expect. You expect the country star to be very present, and you expect him to be headed back to that life. But you don't get that. Nope. Instead you get a run of the mill "does he love me enough to want to be with me" kind of plot.
I truly expected a singing cowboy in this book, but I got none of that. The blurb made the book sound better, and with what I didn't get, I feel rather disappointed.
It didn't help that the author chose to name-drop real country music stars in the book, and she got the names wrong!! That's just adding insult to injury.
In short, the blurb needs to be rewritten to fit the actual plot - or the book needs to be rewritten to fit the blurb. Lots of typos, messed up name-dropping, and a flat plot doesn't help.
Clare is tv journalist with a talk show, and one of her segments is "Falling Stars" where she features a former Star that has fallen out of the limelight.
Trace used to be a famous country music star, until tragic events made him turn his back on the entertainment industry.
Clare did a story on Trace, alluding to some facts that weren't true. He confronted her, asking for an apology. When she refused to apologize, he bought the tv station she worked for, and as revenge, made her agree to work for him as his secretary or lose her show altogether.
They end up sleeping together, but he tells her that's all he can give her, that he can never love her. When she is offered a position with a national tv station, Trace is angry that she's choosing fame over him.
She sticks to her guns, and eventually he gives in and comes looking for her. But instead of being happy about it, she tells him to dig out his past and get over it.
I liked the book pretty good up until that part, then it lost me. Any real guy, with Trace's past, and faced with that kind of rejection, isn't going to come crawling back professing his undying love. I like that Clare was independant and true to herself, but she should have given some, too. It took a lot for him to come after the first time.
Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!! Claire is rising talk show host, does an expose on country music star Trace that he does not appreciate. Bcuz she won't agree to stop the follow up story on him, he buys the tv station and includes a contract addition requiring her to work as his assistant for a few weeks to teach her a lesson. Passion builds between both of them but he has a past that prevents him from opening that includes a car crash the killed his scheming wife and parents that died in plane crash on their way to see his concert in the same year. She is on the track Hollywood that doesn't include being tied down to a man or a small town. The give in to a physical relationship agreeing to no strings attached but they Claire ends up wanting more. She also gets offered a job in LA and decides to take it but still keep her apt in Nashville. Trace shows up at her Apt with an eviction notice, he has bought her apt building this time. After she gets mad at him, he pulls out an engagement ring and says that since she "doesn't have a place to live any more I was going to ask you to marry me." He confesses his love, she says yes and confesses her love.
I was thoroughly impressed with this short and sweet love story... so much power packed into this little story... Never read Debra Webb before but you can bet your bottom I will from now on!! the characters were lovable and funny... something every story needs. even though there wasn't a lot of hot hot sex, it was pulled off in a way that made you want to come back for more. Trace was for sure a total alpha... but Claire was holding her own also... there were some grammatical and wording errors.. But all in all a great book... 4 stars!!
This was one of the longest short stories Ive ever read.. The heroine was very unlikeable to me and that made reading this story even more of a chore.. Then to go through all of that and then not even really finish the story just irked me. I didnt like this ending at all. So they are engaged... Does she leave for California? do they have a long distance relationship? does she stay in Nashville? Does he go to California with him? I was really let down by this ending.

I really enjoyed Trace and Claire. The humor and banter in this vook was fun. I'm just not into ending where it's kind of ...and they lived happily ever after. I enjoy the books that get into the details of their relationship after they finally give in to love but that's jsut me. A book 2 would be great because Trace was something else and totally yumm-o!
Almost gave it 5 but I doubt I'll read it again so I went with 4. Hero had the same thoughts/conversation in his head a few too many times but overall was pretty good.
