Solidly written and a great springboard to other work. It is useful to have the different elements of NYC’s midcentury arts and culture scene described in one place, even as it somewhat confusingly jumps forward and back in time and place. Its biggest fault is its reliance on other major works (eg Power Broker) for chunks of narrative , even with the accuracy of those being dubious or biased
