It was a rough start to the school year for Shayna and her friends, Jodi and Steven, but thankfully summer break is near. Trying to sort out her feelings for the new guy in town, Shayna agrees to let Jensen join her on a group date with her friends. While out they end up at a local coffee house where their classmate, social outcast Jeremy McCormick, is humiliated by his baseball star brother. When Jeremy runs away from the jeering crowd, Shayna and Jodi hear the unmistakable sound of a thousand wings chasing after him, but no one else seems to hear them. These are not like any air elementals that Shayna or Jodi have ever encountered before and they fear Jeremy has gotten himself tangled up in something too dangerous for him to handle. But when Shayna tries to help Jeremy control his magical abilities she realizes it might be the biggest mistake of her life.
Like so many other writers, Shauna grew up as an avid reader, but it was in high school that she realized she wanted to be a writer. She released the first installment of her Paranormal YA Series, The Elemental Series, Earth, on May 1, 2011 and has since released four sequels, with the series coming to an end with Spirit. In December of 2013 she release the first in her Paranormal Post-Apocalyptic trilogy, World of Ash. She is currently hard at work on one too many projects, trying to organize the many voices in her head. It's a writer thing.

We’re back with the magical trio of Shayna the Earth elemental, Jodi, the Air elemental, and Steven, the Fire elemental. All three have powers, all three have magical powers that they use to defeat other beings. And in this case, that person is Jeremy, the goth loner boy who is bullied by his older brother at a poetry reading. When the trio witness thousands of beating wings surrounding them, they realize that Jeremy may be dangerous, and helping him could cost them their lives.
I really enjoy this series. There’s so much to read about. The power within Shay keeps growing in each book, and I can’t help but wonder how strong she actually is. She was rather controlling and I guess you have to be if you’re the strongest and the leader, but I guess what I’m saying is maybe she could have relaxed a bit. Her bossy ways really annoyed the other two. Jodi and Steven are back as supporting characters and I rather enjoy their dynamic relationship. They’re all such wonderful and loyal friends, you can’t help but want to say “Awww.” (Yes some parts are cheesy.) I grow to admire how powerful they are when they use their powers together. It’s all very open and raw. I can’t help but remember how the trio’s teamwork reminds me of the TV show Captain Planet. They all had elements too.
Love the visualizations that Shauna Granger has evoked in the elemental series. She writes her action scenes so well that I always have a movie reel playing in my head. And not to mention those spells that they say all rhyme and I always loved any book or movie that had anything to do with magic.
What I need more of is how their powers came to be. There is no explanation as to how they received it. It was rather assumed that they were just born with it. There are several clues, but no questions have been answered, so please Shauna, add more history into it.
I really like the elemental series. I think my favorite thing about this series is that each book has a completely different story. I wasn't too sure where this book was going to go. I thought it would focus more on Jensen, but a totally different story emerged. It deal with the fae, which are fascinating creatures! I have read a few books on the fae but I really loved Shauna's take on them. She included many different varieties and I really got to see the nuances within the species.
And what is even cooler is that we got to see so much more of Jodi! She is the air elemental of the trio so it makes sense that she would get her time to shine in this book. I really liked that it wasn't 100% about Shayna. I enjoyed seeing jodi and her powers grow, you could tell that she needed the confidence. I felt so bad for Steven sometimes though. It felt a little like he was being left in the dust- Shayna has always been super powerful, btu now Jodi was coming into her own, but because the book was so Air based, there was not much for Steven to do. Of course, he was never bitter or anything but supportive. He is such a great friend.
Another great thing about Air is that you can really see some awesome character development and growth. Particularly for Shayna. She starts out the series being pretty controlling and having a bit of a temper. But she is really starting to come around and fall into her powers. She appreciates her friends more and is such a good person at heart. She always wants to help everyone, even Jeremy. (who I found to be kind of creepy) Now if only she could start treating Jensen a little better...
Jensen is so completely and totally awesome. He cares about Shayna so much, and he is so patient with her. Honestly, he puts up with a lot with her. She is confused and as a result, sometimes she doesn't treat him the best. I just wanted to shake her a few times and make her realize how good she has it with him. My only complaint about Air is that there was not enough Jensen in it! He always seemed to be a few steps behind the group because Shayna never took the time to fill him in until way after the fact. Poor Jensen. I just hope that in the next book Shay realizes what she has, and I just hope it isn't too late.
Overall, Air (and the elemental series) is a great, magical book. The mystery is awesome and the magic battles are intense! It will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat- I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!
I saw Air and, since it's Jodie's element, I was hoping the book would focus more on Jodi and let her be in the spotlight, without Shayna. Maybe even let her be the narrator as she explores these changes happening to her. That doesn't happen. I mean, Shayna does sort of tells us: "Oh, Jodi's magic is stronger now." But it's just not the same even with those cool extra abilities Shayna has.
Shayna hasn't changed, at all. I disliked how in this book her patronizing and angry self grew right along with her powers. And she has a new victim, Jensen, who is now in a very casual relationship with her. I also dislike how she has no qualms about unleashing her powers on her friends, for her benefit, yet is skeptic to do it to the "bad" guy in self defense.
I also don't understand why Jodi and Steven- love him!- are shown to look like beginner novices almost throughout the whole book when they are certainly nothing of the sort. I mean, neither seems like a slacker when it comes to their powers, so they would be doing their homework and honing their powers. Especially Jodi, if she really feels that big a rivalry towards Shayna.
BUT! Shayna does have her moments when shows she cares about her friends, like when Steven had that little "accident" in the backyard or when she's covering Jodi's eyes so Jodi doesn't see something horrible happening. She just needs to work with her anger problems just as much as she works with her magic.
One of my favorite things about this book, is the plot. I like how Granger introduces new characters and lets us wonder what their roles in the story will be. I also loved that the plot had faeries intertwined to it. And once again, the story is told at the perfect pace, not too slow nor too fast. This helped feed the air of mystery surrounding the events happening with Jeremy and whatever he's doing.
Another great thing is, even with Jensen and Shayna in a casual relationship, the plot is not forgotten in favor of page after page of teenage romance and there's no dreaded love triangle making unwanted appearances. This always lets me enjoy the book much more. I do wish Jensen had a bigger presence in the story. I have a feeling he could be a character I could really love since I did like him more in this book.
I enjoyed this book despite my complaints. It read fast, it was entertaining, it had some mystery and Fairies! And well to be honest, the story is kind of addicting.
I will be reading the third book soon. I'm really interested in finding out if a new character will be introduced to be the Water Child, or if it's someone we already know.
Thanks to Shauna Granger for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Air takes place several months after the ending of Earth, right before school ends for the Summer holidays. The story centres around a classmate of Shayna’s called Jeremy, who, after being publicly humiliated attracts the attentions of Shay and Jodi. It seems that wherever he goes, a buzzing noise, like the fluttering of wings seem to follow. Shay, Jodi and Steven take it upon themselves to uncover the mystery behind these faerie-like things and save Jeremy before it’s too late.
One of the things I was anticipating most in Air was the complicated relationship between Shay and Jensen. If you’ve read my Earth review, you would know that I LOVED the undeniable chemistry between the two! They were constantly bantering, and Shay never admitted to liking him, but you know that something was going to happen between the two! So, I was eagerly anticipating how the relationship between the two would work out, but I suppose it’s because of my unbelievably high expectations that I was left slightly disappointed by the development between the two. Their relationship seemed more like a hook-up rather than ‘dating’ and in this instalment, I felt that what Shay and Jensen shared was merely a physical attraction rather than something deeper and more real.
I’ve always considered Shay a strong and capable heroine, and boy, did she not disappoint in Air! Always taking care of her friends, and those around her, she was certainly a character worthy of respect and admiration! However, I’ll admit that I was annoyed with her at times,; her stubbornness really did get on my nerves. Okay, after some thought, I think I’m just annoyed at at the way she treated Jensen!
I loved the friendship between Shay, Jodi and Steven! I can’t believe I never appreciated just how close and loyal everyone was in Earth. In Air, I really understood the depth of what each one of them would do for their best friends. They looked out for one another, and the three were literally unseparable! This is definitely what I call TRUE FRIENDSHIP!
Shauna is still a master of writing heart-thumping, edge-of-your-seat action scenes! Those were definitely my favourite parts of the books, and there was certainly a great deal of such action!
The second installment in the Elemental series will surely please readers, with its well thought out storyline, which remained the central focus of the story. I’m anticipating the release of the third book next year!
A great follow up to Earth, the first book in this series. This series is definitely a YA one, but I do really enjoy it. The only reason this book doesn't get 5 stars is because there's not enough blood and guts in it, but I don't think blood and guts would work well in this series either, but it's just not gory enough for me.
Shayna, an Earth witch, Jodi, an Air witch and Steven, a fire witch form a fab trio who both together and individually have a great amount power, which for their young ages of 17 is probably more power than they ever expected to have.
This time round they are fighting against an unknown entity, who has somehow managed to attach itself on another boy from school. This boy, Jeremy, is a goth wannabe with no real friends and who is just a mere shadow beneath his older brother's wonderful achievements. Everyone loves the brother but no-one's especially interested in Jeremy. This unknown entity fuels Jeremy' anger and resentment towards his brother and father and makes him do things he would never have done on his own. And of course it's up to Shayna, Jodi and Steven to help him and free him from his attachment. But they have no idea what or who they are dealing with and have no inkling at all on what to do.
When Shayna gets a visit from a faery asking her to come to the orchard to meet a faerie queen, she realises there's more to this situation than any of them even imagined.
I loved how the trio nearly caught Jeremy so many times, but he always got away. I always thought the ending was coming and then it didn't. It completely kept me hanging on for more - love it when a book does that to you!
Shayna annoyed me a little more in this book though. Yes she wields the most power out of the trio, but she's way too bossy for my liking and if I had been Jodi or Steven I would have told her where to get off on several occasions. She needs to let the other two have a little control of the situations sometimes too!
I would definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next installment, Water, which I hope comes out soon. But who or what will be the water element in the trio? It can't be Jensen, Shayna's kind of love interest, so will a new witch come to town? Or will Jodi develop her air power to incorporate water somehow? Don't know but can;t wait to find out.
After a run-in with a demon last year, Shayna and her two best friends are excited to get ready for a relaxing rest of the year. Shayna's main goal is to learn to control her powers over the element of earth. Of course, things are never that easy. Shayna, Jodi, and Steven see someone they know get humiliated by him own brother in front of an open mic crowd. Things get very strange after that though as they discover that this boy has a group of fairy-like creatures working for him. These "fairies" are unlike any Shayna has ever seen though. Soon Shayna herself is in trouble, and the boy will stop at nothing to get back not only at those he has been hurt by but Shayna's loved ones as well. Shayna, Jodi, and Steven will have to pull out some impressive magic to get out of this.
I was excited to read this book after having read the first book of the series, and I was not disappointed. Air continued the adventures of Shayna and her friends in a fun way. I loved that the plot was so different though from the first book. Instead of dark demons we have evil fairies. No really, it was awesome. There is a lot of fairy-lore in the book, which I really enjoyed. Jodi and Steven continued to be some of the best sidekicks and friends a girl could ask for. If there was anything that bothered me, it was Shayna (especially as she dealt with Jensen). I just felt like she was really focused on herself and didn't give Jensen a chance to adjust to what was going on. That was really just a tiny thing though.
While this book is the second in the series, it certainly stands on its own very well. I found the plot to be very interesting. There were even a few surprises. All the characters were give a chance to grow in both personality and in their powers. Once again, the combination of supernatural with the natural elements helped to give this book a sense of reality to the magic. It's a different approach that works very well. If you read the first book, this book will be just as fun for you. If you haven't read the first book, then don't worry. With a great combination of magic and elements, this book will be sure to entertain.
I was quite curious to find our four heros and to discover what had happened to them since the end with Ian in the first book. So it's with a real pleasure that we can see Jodi, Shayna and Steven who will live a new adventure. And of course they're helped by Jensen but it's still difficult for him to really accept this new world where he evolves now.
The author's writing style is more accomplished in this second volume, we can also feel it with the story which is more complex than in the first novel. However, it's true that sometimes I didn't get into some parts of the novel near the end.
About the story, I can tell it was quite simple but well conceived. This time, the author focuses on a new element like we can see with the title : Air. Two characters are more present, Jodi whose element lives in her and of course like always Shayna whose nothing could happen without her. However, this time we assist to a set black of the story for Steven and Jensen. But it was an interesting idea, it allows us to learn more about our two young heroines. So we evolve in a new world full of fairies and we can meet two very interesting ones who will appear a few times all along the book. I really like Tigan. He is mysterious, speak with enigmas but is always here when Shayna needs it. It was also curious to see the evolution of Jensen since the first volume, he opens himself little by little to this new life despite he's still afraid about it. For Shayna, he has to change, he has to accept the impossible, to live with her friends, everything she wants to be at her side.
I've always really like books about fairies, so it was interesting to me to see the author's vision about this subject. As far as that goes, we can learn more about a new species, but I'll not tell too much about them. They were very intriguing and I was happy to learn more about them.
Picking up as few months after Earth ended, we find our little coven in the throws of yet another mystery to be solved and person to be saved. While it all sounds so Scooby Doo-ish, it's anything but. These are not your ordinary meddling kids with powers; Shay, Jodi, and Steven are trying relentlessly to deal with their growing powers, tumultuous relationships, and the burden of knowing that life as they know it will never be normal. It's all to easy in the YA world for the protagonists to seemingly forget that beneath their powers and supernatural romances that they are still in fact teenagers living in the real world, this seems to be something of a point of concern for Granger as she seamlessly ties their reality into the real world, despite the ever-growing problems that arise. I love that the relationships between the three take precident over hormones and regardless of the love interests they each hold, they put their coven first and foremost. These kids really have their stuff together despite insurmountable odds. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Book two in the Elemental series opens a week before summer break. Shayna, Jodi and Steven are still learning to harness and control their magical abilities after dealing with a demon in book one. Shay especially, as she was left with more power than before. The Elementals go out on a group date and witness the humiliation of a fellow classmate, and then feel the presence of magical beings around him. The story moves swiftly from there and you find yourself immersed. Shay is a smart, strong and fiercely loyal young woman; her world does not revolve around a guy and she isn't afraid to stand up for or help anyone who needs it. I love that about her and what she represents to young girls. In fact, my niece is nearing her teenage years, and I plan on giving her this series. There is plenty of action and magic in Air, and yes, even some romance, but overall this is a story of magic and friendship, and one I highly recommend.
Air by Shauna Granger is the second book in her Elemental series. First off I really enjoy how she is doing the series. It's not the first time I have seen a series named like this, but what Shauna is doing inside the books really sets her apart.
The same crew from Earth is back with the addition of Jensen as a love interest for Shayna. It's also great to see Steven back as himself confident and comfortable in who he is. This time the group finds themselves trying to help out a young man who is a major outcast and has fallen under the influence of some extremely devious and dangerous air elementals.
As this is the second book in the series I will do my usual and keep things fairly short to try to avoid spoilers about this book as well as the first in the series. Suffice to say that if you enjoy a modern take on magic and urban fantasy with some romance this is a great series for you to check out.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a great story. Friendship and Magic with a little romance thrown in. Shayna, Jodi and Steven are learning to use their elemental powers. Shayna (Terra) Earth mother, Jodi (Fae) air power and Steven (Drake) fire power. Fairy creatures are part of this story! Both good and bad fairies. The story centers around Jeremy, a disturbed boy who is attached to 'faeries'. They create all kinds of problems with an already volatile character. The characters in this book are strong and loyal. My laugh out loud moment from this book "Deb's Jedi mind trick convinced him I wasn't the droid he was looking for" Cool, huh? I would not recommend this book for YA under the age of 16 due to some of the content, but if you are over 16- go for it- read this book.
The coven of three is back together facing a new threat. A troubled young man starts to create havoc with an unfamiliar "fairy". It is up to Shayna, Steven, and Jodi to work together and help him work through or conquer the problems that got him in the mess he is in. Those are the plans, but plans don't always work the way you want them to.
I love stories using elemental powers, fairy creatures, and strong characters. This book definitely has those characteristics.
This is a great fantasy book. I would recommend it to readers over 16 due to some mature content.
Great book, loved to see the characters some more, and we got to learn a lot more about a lot of them Though the guy keeps disappearing, and there's no mention of him doing so, even though they were looking for him. It was rather strange. But great book!
These are high school aged characters, but it's very entertaining and engaging....very worth my time to read the whole series, I'm sure! Looking forward to the 3rd book in the series!
Shayla, Steve and Jodi are recovering from the battle with Ian. Shay is learning more about her powers from Deb. She is also sort of dating Jensen. On one of those nights she is hanging out with Jensen and her friends, she notices a classmate Jeremy on the stage. When he gets upset she feels a surge of energy and hears faerie wings. She and Jodi try to follow him but he gets away. They see him again in the bookstore. He becomes angry and Shay tries to step into calm him down. He almost hurts her badly in the process. She and Jodi end up pressing charges and Jeremy is arrested. Shay is determined to figure out what is really going on and what type of faeries are helping him, especially after she gets a special warning of her own. Shay and her friends have to figure out what is causing Jeremy’s powers and anger. Jodi is trying to use her powers from her air element to figure out what is truly there. The deeper they get involved the stronger Shay’s power becomes. She needs guidance from the faeries and is shocked when she and Jodi figure out what is really going on. I like this series. The characters being elements are fascinating to me. Shay is the leader and the strongest magic-wise. The first book really focused on her earth elemental. This book centers more around Air which is Jodi’s elemental. The three friends have to band together again and fight another enemy. Shay and her friends work hard at figuring things out. Their mentor Deb is unavailable and the faeries are fickle with their help. You are along for the ride as the friends try to help Jeremy and solve the mystery of where his magic is coming from. You feel their frustration and fear. Their problem solving skills are awesome. The author takes you through their logical deductions as the story evolves. You also feel sorry for Shay as Jensen doesn’t really understand her magic. The author hints at the possibility of a closeness between them. Unfortunately there is a big chasm between them. You see Shay losing hope for a relationship between them. It will be interesting to see where the author takes it in the next installment. I give this book a 4 out of 5.
This second book is notably better than the first. I think Shauna Granger really honed her talent between books. It still has the exploration of magic abilities while keeping that grounding tether to the relatable realities of being a teen.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ With Air, the series gains momentum and emotional complexity. Jeremy's story brings in a haunting new element—literally—and there’s a real sense of urgency in Shayna’s desire to help him. The air elementals are unlike anything the trio has faced before, and their silent menace adds a ghostly atmosphere. Shayna’s developing relationship with Jensen gives the book a bit of soft romantic tension, but the focus remains tightly on friendship, danger, and magic. There’s something fragile and tragic about Jeremy’s arc, and it’s handled with a surprisingly thoughtful touch. A strong continuation with higher emotional stakes and deeper magic.
Evil Faeries are the creatures causing major disruption in this instalment of the Elemental series, nothing like an evil fairie to try to contend with. This of course, is easier said than done, as our crew of three elementals, plus Jensen, who pops up every now and then to lend a hand, find out.
Air’s story centres around Jeremy a classmate of Shay’s. He has always been this odd guy at school , being picked on, especially by his brother Jimmy. Nice one Jimmy ( said sarcastically), you think you could rely on your own family to accept you and stick up for you.
Jimmy does the unforgiveable while Jeremy has stood up at open mic night to read some rather bad poetry, humiliated , Jeremy works some weird mojo , and there we have the direction this story takes.
Shay , Jodi and the ever loveable Steven try to track down Jeremy and find out what is going on with all these faerie type creatures.
But, all may not be what it seems.
Shauna has entertained me with some colour characters in this instalment, Hobya, Iris of Shattered Light and Tegan.
I loved having Tegan the wee little Earth faerie about. He was a great addition and I hope he sticks around.
Jensen and Shay have a sometimes physical relationship and a sometimes, not really relationship. I would have liked to have made more ground in this book with them. Jensen was more a sub character ,as Shay, Jodi and Steven are this tight crew who don’t leave much room or time for others in their life. Shay is always finding somebody that needs help and she can gungho it with her other elementals, leaving not a lot of space for Jensen.
I liked meeting Anthony , Steven’s current squeeze. If Steven wasn’t gay , he would be a gorgeous boyfriend for Shay. He is very caring and protective when Shay permits him to be, even when she doesn’t. There is just something very Team Steven about him, even though he bats for the other team.
Jeremy’s character is really taking the reader on a chase with all the things he is getting up to. The Bookstore and Police Station scenes were rather intense and a scene with Jimmy....oh dear!
I thought this book would be from Jodi’s pov as it is titled Air, but it was Shay running the show and trying to keep herself and her friends safe and others out of harms way.
Shauna brought some new creatures to my attention as I hadn’t heard of them which I thought was great.
I enjoyed this instalment, I would have liked more Jensen and relationship development with Shay. Her character was very independent , not taking a lot of time to play with her feelings with Jensen. Bad boy Jeremy stole the show with the at times violent behaviour he got up to.

The trio and their dates decide to go out for a fun night. They go to a coffee shop where Jeremy gets up to read some poetry. His brother starts making fun of him, and Jeremy gets really mad. All of a sudden, Shayna and Jodi hear faerie wings . Lots and lots of faerie wings. At least they guess that they are faeries. They chase him down the street, and his anger brings them back. The trio again decides to figure out what is going on before something bad happens. With the aide of the faeries, will the trio figure out what is happening to Jeremy? And will they find a way to save him before it is too late?
I liked this book a little more than the first one. I have always loved reading books about faeries so I really liked that this book involved them. In this book I got to meet this cute faerie guy named Tegan. I absolutely loved Tegan. I couldn't wait to continue the story just to read more scenes with him in it. Faeries are sweet and mischievous. I just wanted to hug him. I was glad the story wasn't as predictable as the first one. I was also trying to figure out what was aiding Jeremy in his destruction. I felt really bad for Jeremy in this book. He was just so broken with his father and brother constantly making fun of him. I also like how there is something going on with Shayna that I am still trying to figure out. She keeps seeing herself with black wings. I can't wait to see what becomes of this.
Shayna still got on my nerves in this one. She was still really bossy with everyone including her friends. She did what she wanted to do. Jodi annoyed me at times too. She always tried to better than her friends. To me that isn't a true friend.I still don't like the relationship between Shayna and Jensen. She just wants a casual relationship, but it obviously isn't just casual. She also started that they can't be anything more, because Jensen doesn't understand her. He hasn't known her long enough to understand her. Having powers is going to scare him a little. She should be their helping him, but she tosses him aside and only goes to him when she needs him. I really want to slap her. Steven is by far the most realistic character out of the three of them. I just couldn't connect with the characters. I also didn't like how it ended. It didn't say anything about what happened to Jeremy. I was kinda disappointed.
I will continue reading the series to see what becomes of Shayna and her friends. I hope some of these loose ends are fixed in the next book. Great story though. I can't wait to read Water.
The Shayna, Jodi and Steven are back for a new adventure in Air. Shayna hasn't figure out how she feels about Jense but he agreed to date her and join her friends. They catch one of their classmates Jeremy McCormick being tormented by his brother, and when he runs away upset they hear the sound of thousands of tiny wings. Which causes them to suspect that Jeremy might have gotten into something to over his head. When Shayna confronts him he tosses her over a balcony in anger and reveals his connection to fairies. Shayna is confronted by a the fairy princess who warns her about something coming.
The police arrest Jeremy after the attack on Shayna, and the trio sweet talks the police into letting Shayna. She speaks to him through a phone, learning what's really going on but Jeremy is a suspicious guy who starts to question her reasoning for wanting to befriend him and goes into a rage destroying the phone and having to be sedated. Jeremy escapes from the police station and starts to cause havoc on the city he attacks his brother, after being tortured in the past by them. The trio needs to protect their friends as well as Jeremy's father because he's angry and gotten himself into a mess.
I enjoyed Air as much as I did Earth I was really happy to see that Shayna has taken the chance to get to know Jensen and that they are giving dating a chance. I was hoping for a little more about Jodi since she is after all the air elemental but I wasn't disappointed by the story. Like the first it sucks your attention in till you hit the last page leaving you wanting more. Which is exactly what I look for in a book if it can't hold my attention while I noise going on in the background and my mind racing a mile a minute then odds are I won't be able to finish it. I found the connection between the main characters Shayna, Jodi, Steven and now Jensen holds the story together. Without them working together I it wouldn't be as great of a story. Like with the first one I love all the elemental magic and other super natural creatures that crop up in the books. Even though it's a fast paced story that draws you in right from the start the seriousness it broken with a little humor spread in the mix. Overall it's a great series I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. Good thing I've got it loaded on my kindle and ready to go.
Air is the second book in the Elemental series. The story revolves around a teenage witch name Shayna. She is actually an "Elemental" a witch that derives her powers from one of the four main elements: Air, Earth, Fire, Water. Shayna is the earth elemental, or earth mother.
Granger takes a different direction in this book. Instead of dealing with people who may be considered “bad witches” who are, summoning things, they should not, Shayna and friends have to deal with a magical creature that took it upon itself to enter our world and manipulate an unsuspecting boy. Jeremy is a troubled youth at school that Shay can sense has magic. She also hears the presence of the creature and rushes to Jeremy’s aid.
Along the way, Shay has an encounter with the Fae. As it turns out Shay and her friend Jodi have been seeing fairies their whole life. The fairies end up guiding Shayna through her latest ordeal. This story is a strong follow up to the first novel. It keeps the feel and look of all the characters while introducing different elements. The addition of the fairies is a good one in my opinion. It makes shays world seem all that more magical and opens up different possibilities for further down the series.
The only thing that I found disappointing was that despite the title, the real focus of the story was still on Shayna. There is nothing wrong with her as a character, but I would have liked a little bit more focus on her friend Jodi. Jodi is the air elemental of Shayna’s coven. Jodi apparently comes into more power at the end but it is hard to see. I would have like to have seen more of what Jodi could do and see how her powers differ from Shayna’s.
I would recommend this book as a continuation of the series and I recommend the series for people who like YA books but would like to see a little less emphasis on the romance aspect and more battling the forces of evil.
Air is the second story to the Elemental Series by Shauna Granger. If you have not read Earth you don't know what your missing! This series has a little of everything in it. In Air it picks right up where Earth left off. The trio is enjoying then ending of the school year. Summer is coming and they are itching to get out of school and have some fun. Shayna is still confused about her feelings for Jensen but she knows she likes him and wants him around. Jodi is still bossy as ever and Steven is still patient and supportive to his best friends.
In Air we get to meet Jeremy. Jeremy lives in the shadow of his brother and he hates it. He hates his father and his brother so much so that when he is approached by someone who says they can help him he accepts. The only thing Jeremy did not realize was that the help he was going to get came with a price. Jeremy did not care and he allowed his anger and hatred get the best of him. This is where the trio come in because they are all on a group date they spot Jeremy and his older brother. His older brother makes fun of him and says and does some mean things and when Jeremy gets so upset he unleashes evil.
Jeremy is not sure what is going on and Shayna tries to help him but he just does not want the help. He hates his family and wants to see them pay for their actions. Jodi tries to help Jeremy and in this book Jodi is coming into her powers and learning to use them and accept them for what they are. But will it be to late for Jodi and the gang to save Jeremy? Will they be able to figure what kind of evil is lurking out there trying to destroy their little town? Will Jodi and gang do what is right or will they leave Jeremy to fend for himself?
This is an awesome follow up book to the series and if you have not read it yet then you need toi run out and get it because it is a MUST READ!!!!!!
I received a review copy in exchange for my honest opinions.
Once again Shauna Granger has a hit on her hands. I stayed up all night to finish Air as it was nearly impossible to put my Kindle down. I devoured this second installment in the Elemental series as if it were the last book I'd ever read in my life.
We meet up with Shayna, Jodi, and Steven not long after their brush with Jensen's brother Ian. Shayna still doesn't want an exclusive relationship and though I understand why, I still think she's an idiot.
Shayna's powers are growing faster than she can handle them, while Jodi and Steven seem to be miles behind her. One thing I really liked in this book is that there was little argument or petty jealousy between Shayna and Jodi; even when Shayna meets and establishes a relationship with faeries. Steven scared me towards the end, though.
The story climbs along slowly, but steadily, like a bird flying high into the sky. The story dips here and there, teasing you and giving you just enough information to keep you reading before it climbs even more. As you get closer to the ending, reaching that pinnacle moment when you're sure that you can't handle much more, the story pushes on, leaving you gasping for breath as you struggle to keep up, knowing that there's no way you can stop reading as you're almost there. And just like when a bird reaches above the clouds and has concluded their ascent, you finally can breathe at the end of the book while wiping away a tear or two; it was a brutal, yet beautiful journey. It's obvious that Ms. Granger knows her stuff and has researched her subject matter thoroughly.
I can't wait to follow Shayna, Jodi, and Steven on the rest of their journey. If you like Elemental Magic, this is a must read. It ties with the Three Sisters Trilogy by Nora Roberts as my second favorite series. EVER.
I enjoyed the first book in this series but my only criticism was that Shayna was sometimes a bit too much of a goody two shoes.
In this one I found her unbearably self righteous, self important and generally a bit of a dick. Her friends are snivelling sycophants and Shayna always knows best. Even a mature, practising Wiccan needs Shayna to tell her what to do and how to do it. She generally goes round pointing out people's flaws, looking down on them, patronising them and wagging her finger at them. Ugh I just want to vomit!
She's also a massive hypocrite, getting pissed off if anyone tries to use magic to influence her when she goes round in this book influencing people all over the place. But of course, this is only when it is necessary for the good of those people and the world. Super Shayna would never do something like that otherwise.....
I doubt I will bother putting myself through the next book as there's only so much of Ms Super Powerful Perfect Princess that I can take without having an aneurysm.

I didn't like this one as much as the first, mainly because of Shayna. Her personality through the book continued to aggravate me as the story unfolded. I can understand being angry that no one wants to believe you about something but she seemed to take her anger, and at time contempt, of those who couldn't/wouldn't understand to another level that made me kinda hate her. I kept wanting someone to smack her or even put her in her place.
Other than that I enjoyed the story itself and having to meet more of the creatures that Shayna and her friends keep coming into contact with. I just wish they would be a little less condescending to the people around them, after all everyone around them are under the belief that magic isn't real and people tend to see what they 'want' to see and come up with more 'acceptable' theories for why things happen. You can't people's perspectives just because you say that its the truth or you've magically given them the sight to see the truth. The truth is a hard concept for people to grasp.
I really liked this book and how you think its nearly finished as they are so close to catching Jeremy and he just escapes them.
I'm feeling really bad for Jensen as he is tryg so hard to understand this new magical world that he has come in to but Shay is being abit impacient with him. obviously your first thought when someone tells you that faries are real you're gonna laugh. I hope that she gives him more of a chance in the next books.
I am also looking forward to see what type of power all 3 of them will develop as they are looking rather strong now so I can only imagine what this will lead up to.
I was hoping this book would focus more on Jodi's powers, but Shauna was still the main character. It left some questions unanswered, but overall still a very good read. Excited to see what Water has in store!
