Lost in a world of white, I lay. Pain and cold were my only companions. How long would it take me to die? Would the cold freeze my heart and stop its beating?

A red plastic sled saved the day. A woman saved my life.

Unfortunately, saving my life might cost Grace her own. We get one day together, Christmas day, one day of bliss among misery. Too soon the tree is down and all that’s left of the cinnamon biscuits are crumbs.

The people who want me dead come back to see their task complete. I didn’t have a plan, but Grace did.

Never trust a woman with a shotgun.

I really loved this book, I only wish I had saved it for christmas.

I can't really say anything about the plot, cause I'd be giving away stuff you have to discover yourself. So, I'm going to talk about other things I liked. The writing, I loved it. This short story is told completely from the guys POV and I really liked to seeing his inner thoughts. Also I loved the character of Grace, she is so fierce and gentle at the same time. One last thing: I love the cover.

I was so excited to receive this book for a review and it was totally worth my time. Once again I have the same problem as with other short stories I read and like, I wish there was more of it.

Ok,, I just finish reading (lots of embarrassement in front of my friends from work, as usual) and now I can go back to work LoL

Full review is yet to come, but for now I'll leave you with this pic that pretty much sums up how I'm feeling about this book:

description

Yep,, I'm feeling wild and fuzzy at the same time =0)

Reviewed on 11/14/11

How can something so beautiful be so lethal?

I love winter and cold, but I’m very susceptible to it. I feel cold all the freaking time. I have to sleep with a blanket even in the summer. Yep, pretty week of me. I was born in the first day of winter, but apparently, I didn’t get the props of extreme cold resistance LoL
But I still get amazed of the beauty of it. Even tough it could kill me. I guess that’s why girls like vamps so much. Mesmerizing, cold and lethal

description

The Plot - Simple, but so, so, so romantic. But is also really scary and with a hint of comedy in it as well. Just like a fun read should be. Since I’m very cold all the freaking time and I tend to feel and see things as I read, yep, I get inside the story when the book is good, I felt pretty much like this in the beginning:

description

The Characters - Tristan is courageous and so sweet I could bite him. Really a good boy. Grace is this girl with a loving heart and really long legs LoL. She saves Sam from the cold and have no idea in what she got her self into. Ok, I wanted to say so much more, but I have to stop here so I don’t spoil the big ginormous surprise. I’ll just say,,, it’s pretty big LoL

The Writing - 1º person, best ever :D Tristan tell us the story and while reading I felt the cold and even shivered a little. Witch only made my friends from work give me weird looks LoL This have some tricky twists n the writing and can get your head mess up. You think you know what’s going on, but then you find your self slapping your forehead and saying “How foolish of me.”

description

Considerations - I really liked this story, but I think it could be a little bigger. I wanted to see more of them and stuff. I don’t know nearly enough about Tristan and Grace as I would like to know. They sound really great characters and it left me wanting more. MOOOOOORE!!!!! LoL

Whiteout

An icy wind whips across the frozen, arctic tundra. Its teeth leering sharp, piercing, threatening with a biting, deadly cold that screams death. Alone bleeding and huddled on the frosty snow lies a figure, awaiting an inevitable demise. Scrunch scrunch the sound of boots trudging through the quiet snowflakes penetrates his ears. Dare he hope for salvation? A glimpse of an angel, flowing black hair, kind brown eyes a voice in the freezing silence. Then the boots trail away. Death stalks him once again. A miracle she is back dragging a red sled. Then there is a house, steaming with warmth, hope and the comforting smell of cinnamon. A life saved. For Tristan her timely arrival is a momentary reprieve from his lurking past. Restored by Grace's gentle, healing hand, he pauses to enjoy one day, Christmas with his guardian angel. It is a day of peace, joy, friendship and delicious food. As the stolen time slips away Tristan dreads the inevitable. His former life prowling outside, waiting to finish him. Can he escape the clutches of death again and protect Grace?

What I Liked:
*I love the way Ms. Hebert vividly paints with her words. She makes you feel the razor cold as it gnaws away the will to live. Then she wraps you in a cozy blanket of comfort with the warmth of the fire and the delectable smells of baking. She made me hungry for cinnamon biscuits, bread and chocolaty, hot cocoa. I liked the contrast between the two scenes, the snowstorm and the welcome shelter.
*I was shocked by the twist. The figure dying in the snow is not what you expect. I was totally caught off guard. What a fun surprise.
*I loved Grace's refreshing ideas regarding Christmas. It was nice to reach back to the roots of Christmas and depart away from the horrendous, choking grasp of retail sales and materialism. A nice reminder as the holiday season closes in on us.

And The Not So Much:
*I wanted more. I know this is a short story and yes, indeed it is that. I was just investing myself into the characters when the story wraps. It comes to a neat resolution but I longed for it to continue. Perhaps in the future Ms. Hebert will revisit the lives of Grace and Tristan.

Whiteout is a quick, fun read. I enjoyed the detail of the writing. I could almost feel the icy fingers of Winter reaching out through the pages. The soothing scenes of heat and tasty aromas wrapped around and warmed me. Cambria Hebert is indeed a talented writer. I hope to read many more of her works.

This story, without a doubt has become one of my most favorite reads and that is NOT an easy feat.
There are so many aspects that made this story so enjoyable for me!
Hebert writes characters with such detail that you can envision them in your mind and find yourself thinking of them as real people that you would love to meet.
She gives you dialogue and banter that leave you both breathless and at times laughing.
Let’s not forget the suspense and action that Hebert was also able to weave into this short tale.
Writing a short story that can captivate, hold your focus, keep you turning the pages, contain all the elements of a great story such as action, romance, suspense and comedy and leave you with a fulfilling ending is no easy feat!
Yet, Cambria Hebert does it effortlessly.
This is one story that I will read over and over again and believe that you will, too!
Hebert shows more than just promising talent, she is delivering it in every book that she writes.
She has found a huge fan in me and I can not wait to see what else she has in store for us!
In short, I recommend this short story to anyone and everyone who is looking for a great read especially if you are short on time.
It will give you a great introduction to this phenomal author and leave you clammoring for more!

I really enjoyed this short story and hope it was setting the scene for another book and not a standalone short book? I loved the strong female character who could look after herself and those in her care. The way she came up with a plan and rescued the man lol. I also enjoyed the descriptions, and how you initially din't know who or what was hurt. Was it a man? a dog? I also enjoyed the interaction between the characters. There aren't many characters within this short book, but the ones that are are strong and well described and easily likeable.
I like the way Cambria writes, the books just flow so easily and you fall straight into the book and continue to want to know more all the way through them. Yes there's the odd typo but nothing that goes anywhere to spoiling or interfering the book in any way.
So Cambria keep writing more! You have fans already!
The only fault i had was I wanted the book to last longer so I see that as a really excellent sign.
Really Really loved it.....I want more!

💝Whiteout de Cambria Hebert

Argumento:

Yacía perdido en un mundo de blanco.

El dolor y el frío eran mis únicos compañeros. ¿Cuánto tiempo me tomaría morir?

Thinking to self : How long it has been since my last book about shifters??

Reading Whiteout made me nostalgic, and once again I was amazed by the amount of action and romance that was packed into such a short story. It was satisfying nevertheless. The story was narrated through the shifter's POV (an extra point for that) and the story started with a hurt, disorientated dog *coughs* wolf. How can you not fall in love with this?
The story was both cute and adrenaline junkie at the same time, in fact the action scenes were pretty descriptive, I praise this book and would recommend it to whoever who wanted a quick, thrilling, romantic book to read.

Besides, shifters are HOT (in my head anyway).

I was honored with an ARC of this amazing short story. I'm usually not a huge fan of short stories because it is hard to develop characters and the story in so few words, but Cambria Hebert delivers. From the first sentence, you are drawn into the story; the author's imagery is so vivid that you feel it. The characters feel well-rounded even in the short time we have with them and their growing affection believable. I loved every word of this work. I want more, but at the same time I don't feel like the author should expand the story to a full-length work; it's truly perfect just the way it is.

Whiteout

My Rating: ★★★★★

A blizzard has blown in and a man is dying, freezing to death in the cold. Suddenly, a savior appears, a woman with midnight black hair and chocolate eyes. Something isn’t quite right, however. Someone has a secret and someone has a shotgun. Just because the woman saves him, can the man really trust her?

I finished this one with a big ol’ smile plastered on my face. Nothing I didn’t expect. Cambria is , as always, a fantastic writer, and “Whiteout” is just another small glimpse at her talent. I love the mystery in this story. We don’t really know what is going on until about halfway in the story, and then right near the end there is another twist to keep us on the edge of our seats. Brilliant!

A good writer not only knows how to get into the heads of their characters but also how to drag the reader in as well. Cambria is an expert at this, and I love it! For such a short story, I am so pleased that I can finish with such a feeling of satisfaction, as if I had just read a 300 page novel – in much less time!

This is a great little escape for the holidays or any day. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this one!

I've mentioned before that I don't really go for short stories but I'm totally glad that I did end up enjoying this one. Whilst I'd like to have known more about the back story of how our characters got to be where they are, that's just my full length novel preference coming through, but I know, I know this is a short story! And I did get into it right away and I was really intrigued to know what was happening and what was going to happen.

I really liked both the main characters as well, I could grasp what kinds of people they were even in such a short space.

I'm trying my best not to spoil so I'll just say I really liked where it went and how it ended, it was believeable and the christmas setting was an extra plus for me beacause I love Christmas!

"The snow was endless, a heavy blanket on the outdoors; it had a way about it. A beauty. But I knew that, like many things, beauty could be deceiving."

Review: Now, I don’t normally read paranormal romance, especially not of the short story variety, but with Cambria’s style of writing, it turned out to be a very sweet little ride. Though not too original, it was well-written, nicely flowing with lots of details which made all the difference in the world. I awesomely loved Grace. She’s brave, caring, and - of course - pretty. Knowing Cambria, it wasn’t surprising to see a werewolf (excuse me, wolf-shifter) as the protagonist in the story :P I’m surprised I didn’t see one in Before...unless...Sam is one....

Anyway, it’s the perfect holiday book, and the end will put a smile on your face. I have to admit I enjoyed the action parts just a little bit better (but then I’ve always loved the guns more than the hearts), and this totally fulfilled my action tastes. Although I usually prefer the full-length novel, Whiteout did a pretty good job of summing it all up in about 25 pages.
Note: This short story is not related to Masquerade or Before, its prequel.

Final verdict: Definitely worth checking out!

This is a fast paranormal read, unfolding from a shifter’s point of view as he slowly heals from being attacked out in a freezing blizzard. Saved by a mysterious lady named Grace while still in wolf form, he knows it won’t be long until his attempted murderer comes back to make sure the job was done. Fortunately, Grace has a plan and a nice shotgun!

This is about shifters, werewolves specifically, which I absolutely love! Tristan sounds like he’s a pretty hunky and Grace lets him in, even if it’s quite strange to find out shifters exist. They spend Christmas together and create some close ties. Grace is a strong woman, showing no fear in adversity and I love how she protects Tristan more than he could ever know. They mesh together well and I enjoyed their interactions. The shifters who are after Tristan sound scary, but we don’t see much of them until they come back for Tristan. It’s a fast but suspenseful story I really enjoyed with a nice twist at the end.

The narrator of the story lies in the snow, in the cold, and ponders death – how will it come? How long will it take? Then … she arrives. She brings a sled and drags the narrator to her home, patches the narrator up, saves the narrator’s life. She also calls the narrator a dog … a dog? The narrator isn’t a dog – not hardly. What mystery is this, then?

A short, romantic paranormal story, “Whiteout” fits in with the season, having a Christmas theme behind it. I was fortunate enough to win this e-book in a giveaway – thanks to Cambria for the chance to read this very interesting tale. If you like twists, turns, and shape-shifters, you will want to get and read “Whiteout.”

Absolutely loved this story!! At twenty eight pages I am impressed by the authors ability to create a complete and astounding story. Whiteout is a suspense novel with a twist of romance. For the paranormal lover this is a perfect little journey that will take you thirty minutes from beginning to end. While Hebert concluded this novel perfectly; readers will still feel the crave for more the wonderful story. This is an awesome display of the talent Cambria Hebert is capable of, and leave me anxious for more of her stories.

I just love the cover! I usually have a hard time getting into short stories and figuring out how to rate them but I really enjoyed this one. At first I was confused about what was going on but things were cleared up as the story went on. I actually really like books like that where stuff isn't blantantly obvious from the get go. Plus add in action and romance. It was an all around great little story. I look forward to reading more from Cambria Hebert.

When I started reading, I was not expecting what happened between the second and third chapters at all, but I loved it.
Tristan is so sweet and Grace is so strong and fierce, a trait that characterizes them both.
It has been a sweet read, with a comic point as well as scary, very romantic and Christmas.

I really enjoyed reading this short story. Cambria has a writing style that I asbolutely adored.

This short story was one that left me entertained and satisfied. I am definitely looking forward to reading her novel Masquerade where I can see her writing in an extended format.

I loved the characters in this novel. Definitely recommended for those who love paranormal short stories.

A lovely story artfully told. Cambria Hebert unwinds this simple tale in such a way that each turn of events comes at the perfect goose-bumpy moment. Grace is a perceptive woman, intelligent, and very open minded. She adapts immediately to most unusual circumstances, and her life-saving resourcefulness gave me a nice little ah-ha! moment once her motivation became clear. I'd like to talk about the male protagonist, but I won't risk ruining one of the more satisfying reveals in the story.

This is a little gem written "in voice" with economical, evocative prose, rich with sense-feel, and perfectly paced.

Excellent!

This was a really fun Wolf-Shifter stories, I always love a good one. This story had a really unique way of opening and I thought it was great. I love how Mrs. Hebert makes me fall in love with her characters. They are so wonderfully developed in such a short period of time. I found I wanted to know more about them, I didn't want it to end. Grace is so brave, and kind and at peace with herself. The wolf-shifter was full of chivalry, yet flawed, and self doubting. Great little story!

In an age where we all seem to be a lot busier than we really need to be, Cambria Herbert comes up with a short story that is told in a way that brings the reader into it quickly. And for someone who lacks a lot of free time lately, it was a pleasure to be able to jump into a good story and complete it without worrying about when I would be able to pick it up again. I would like to see more short stories from good writers like Cambria that would fit into a person's busy schedule. Thank you Cambria!

If there is one thing I have learned since picking up my first book written by Cambria Hebert is that her stories are going to be beautifully written and full of rich detail that make you feel like you you just stepped into the pages.

This novella is no different.

And can I just say that I didn't expect the little twist in the story? I love that!

This is a great short story that will leave you completely satisfied with the ending and leave a smile on your face.

Wow, this is the second short story I've read from Cambria Hebert and I am intrigued by her writing. Even with the short number of pages, the story has a nice plot and conclusion. Although the story ended to my liking, I would have loved to have kept reading. Whiteout would make an interesting book. After reading Whiteout and Before, I will definitely be checking out this author's other work.

The best short story I've read in a while!

When I bought this book I wasn't really too sure what it would be about. I have heard of this author before so I figured I needed to read one of her books.

We have an animal who a woman name Grace saves yet is he truly an animal? When those who hunt him come back Grace doesn't run and hide she stands her ground to save Tristan. There seems to be more that goes on here than meets the eye.

For a short story I did enjoy it and was very surprised at what goes on though I did want more backstory with Tristan. This is one of those short stories you can read in about 30 minutes or less. It does have some action within the story line.

A super short shifter story with a cute ending

Too short to truly enjoy! The characters intrigued me and I needed more. This would make an amazing novella, if the author ever decides to expand on the story, particularly Tristan’s history. Grace was quite the independent woman and seemed like she could hold her own against anything in the wilderness!
