Historian, master of the English language, and early Communist Bertram Wolfe, renowned for his writings on politics and culture, recounts the events of his life against the background of the great movements of his time
An engaging, and often meandering, memoir of a founder of the Communist Party and leader of the "Lovestoneites." He was more than that, but that's mostly what this book covers. I suspect that it's extreme length and surprising number of typographical errors owe to the fact that he died before he completed and refined the book, and that his comrades and publisher wanted to get it out as tribute and for posterity.
An interesting life. Wolfe went from a co-founder of the American Communist party to anti-communist. He was friends with Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and Ernest Hemingway, just to name a few. He was both an idealist and a realist and he had a very interesting life. Definitely worth a read.
