Kidnapped by a handsome man with rabbit ears, Alice Liddell finds herself abandoned in an odd place called Wonderland and thrust into a "game," the rules of which she has yet to learn. Alice, ever the plucky tomboy, sets off to explore and get the lay of this strange land, intent on finding her rude kidnapper and giving him a piece of her mind (and her fist). But little does she know that she's wandered right into the middle of a dangerous power struggle involving just about all of Wonderland's attractive, weapon-happy denizens. And the only way for Alice to return home is to get acquainted with the lot of them?! How in the world will she manage that and still manage to stay alive?!
Oh, you weren't expecting an actual ending, were you? Because the story can't be bothered with something so quaint!
The series kept absentmindedly hinting at things all the time, but never actually bothered to follow thru. On anything Like why Alice isn't allowed to "remember" something, or the point of Nightmare, or why anyone in their right mind would like a douche like The Hatter... Maybe the original game addressed all these issues, but the manga was clearly more interested in just frolicking around & not bothering with proper plot
Alice has a lot of friends in Wonderland by now, but there's some she doesn't agree with. When she gets an invitation to the Queen of Hearts' ball she doesn't want to go, in case she would meet Blood the Hatter. But noone says no to the Queen without consequences...
There's not much new things happening in this volume - until the end. I've been pondering if I want to continue this series or not, but it seems like the decision has been made for me. There's more books in this series - as well as spin-off series - but no library in my vicinity has them. Since I'm not interested enough to try to get the rest I'll have to face not knowing how it will all end for Alice - and I actually feel okay with that.
First of all, I absolutely love this series. I was sad when Tokyopop shut down and cancelled the series in the process, and I was ecstatic when I found out that Yen Press would be picking it up again, finally releasing the final volume we'd all been waiting for. (at least, those of us who hadn't already read it online)
I gave it three stars because I have mixed feelings about the ending. In my humble opinion...
The down side: ALICE, Y U NO CHOOSE SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T TREAT YOU LIKE CRAP?! (-coughJULIUScoughBORIScoughELLIOTcough-) I actually found it kind of degrading as a woman, how Alice was thinking of all the things she could do with her life, and then Blood just is like, "Pfft, like I care about that crap. You're coming back with me." And you still fall for him, Alice? I am disappoint.
The up side: Like Peter said, at least she's still in Wonderland, and anything can happen. :P
If it were just the ending I were rating, it would have gotten even fewer stars. However, there were some points in the rest of it that I did thouroughly enjoy enough to raise the score. The battle between Ace and Blood was pretty awesome (Ace's dialogue was just freaking cool), even though I was disappointed, because I was totally rooting for Ace in that. I knew it wouldn't happen, but hey, you can still hope, right? And I also loved the Blood abuse, like when Vivaldi smacked him, and I LOL'd when Alice chomped his tongue. XD
Also, I know that this isn't the end of the series. It is the end of THIS Country of Hearts series, sure, but there will be more Alice in the Country of Hearts/Clover/Joker manga with different pairings, like Cheshire Cat Waltz and Bloody Twins, which have already been released. The problem I have with this manga is that people who don't know it was an otome game first don't know that this series isn't all there is, and Alice can really be with whoever they want her to be with, since all the Alicexroleholder pairings are technically canon. I think they should have given some kind of explanation of that somewhere... They have been doing a better job in the Clover manga, though.
All in all, I liked it, I have mixed feelings about the ending, but I'm not going to hate the entire series for it (especially since, if you look back, who she'd choose has been hinted at since the VERY beginning. Literally, second page of the first manga), because I know that isn't the only canon pairing for Alice. :)

"Because life is fragile and may end at any time…please enjoy this night with all of your joie de vivre."
What a satisfying ending to an incredible series!
Though I confess I am also upset because I saw many reviews saying this wasn't an actual "ending" and came in prepared, but there was no need for me to be. While I thought I would be desperate to get the spin-off series to find some kind of romance, I was extremely surprised by the romance we did get in this volume alone. It was fitting for the characters and feel so happy with how the "game" ended!
Truly, all of these characters became like friends when I was reading. Each night since I started reading, I found myself thinking about all of them and how much I enjoyed getting to know each one of them. They really brightened my day every time I sat down to see what adventure they would bring me on next because goodness did they bring an adventure! I found this adventure to be more romantically(?) tensed and was quite surprised by that given how the series had been thus far. However, I quite enjoyed it as we got to know Blood better in this volume!
And speaking of, Blood has been much of a mystery! He does one thing but says another, so I feel he's probably the hardest to read and understand. (I empathized with Alice there…) While sometimes his actions made me frustrated, I was happy he got so much page time!
This series was truly a delight to read! I am deeply going to miss these characters because they have been such a blast to know and hang out with. *sobs*
If you enjoy otome games and Alice in Wonderland, I would definitely recommend checking out this series! It's one I feel I'll come back to this again because it was so enjoyable and one I'm sure I'll continue reading with the spin-off series, but not until I fully soak in and appreciate how wonderful this series was in itself... <3
um... there are probably going to be spoilers ahead but I don't feel like using the spoiler stuff.
ok... its weird... but I think I just realized something!
the different characters are all physical representations of the time. the whole "white rabbit is the favorite" thing where they show the clock pointing to three o'clock! the white rabbit is three o'clock. the order in which Nightmare lists the characters on the page before is what time each character is. its kind of confusing for the Joker books though... they have fourteen role holders and the two jokers. but the Clover follows this rule because Gowland and Julius are replaced by the Mouse and Grey.
(pg. 313)
1:00 King 2:00 Queen 3:00 White Rabbit
4:00 Ace 5:00 The Clock Maker (The Lizard or the Doormouse in Clover)
6:00 The March Hare 7:00 The Hatter 8:00 The Twin Gatekeepers 9:00 The Twin Gatekeepers
10:00 The Duke (The Doormouse or The Lizard in Clover) 11:00 The Cheshire Cat
12:00 Nightmare
The grouping of course would change in clover.
1:00 King 2:00 Queen 3:00 White Rabbit 4:00 Ace
5:00 The Doormouse would be here. It could also be the Lizard, but this grouping makes more sense because the Doormouse is part of the Mafia. 6:00 The March Hare 7:00 The Hatter 8:00 The Twin Gatekeepers 9:00 The Twin Gatekeepers
10:00 The Lizard would be here. It could also be the Doormouse, but the Lizard makes more sense with the grouping. 11:00 The Cheshire Cat (the Cheshire Cat can travel anywhere through the doors he creates, this means that he has no specific group, but rather can decide who his allies and enemies are, this is why it makes sense that he would be in the same group as Nightmare who can also travel through dreams.) 12:00 Nightmare
In what I've read of the Country of Joker so far "April Season is the Season of Lies" this is another enigma of the Alice world. Here is a possible explanation:
Since all of the Role Holders are physical representations of time, and there are only twelve hours on a clock, only twelve Role Holders can exist in any one game.
But April Season is a lie. In other words: an illusion. The illusion of course being that there are more than twelve hours on a clock and thus more than twelve Role Holders.
The Joker(s) is(are) an anomaly. If the Joker is counted however, then he should only be counted as one Role Holder, this is because of the Bloody Twins who are also two people but counted as one hour on the clock and can appear in the same world at once.
The twelve Role Holders can also be seen as times of the year, this is shown by evidence of the different seasons that effect the different areas.
The Clocktower is Winter therefore the Role Holders occupying it are: December Nightmare January The Clockmaker February Grey
The Castle is Spring: March The King April The Queen May The White Rabbit
The Amusement Park is Summer: June The Duke July The Doormouse (who abandoned the Hatter family) August The Cheshire Cat
And the Hatter Mansion is Autumn: September The Hatter October The March Hare November The Twins
Ace is another anomaly because he works in two separate roles. The Joker is also an anomaly. I'm not sure why yet though.
EXAMPLES OF CLOCKS SEEN IN THIS VOLUME
(pg. 211)
Peter, Nightmare and the Hatter are in the Hatters dream. Peter holds up a clock pointing to 3:00. Alice wakes up in the box below, the wall clock is also pointing to 3:00.
(pg. 205)
A maid from the Castle dissolves and leaves a clock behind. The clock is pointing to 4:00, which could be because 1) she is part of the Castle and 1-4 is the Castle's times or 2) Ace is the one who collects clocks and 4:00 is his time.
(pg. 112)
(Alice Thinking) "The Sunday Afternoons that I loved so much... My Older Sister was there too."
(pg. 103)
The White Rabbit's pocket watch shows the time as 3:00.
(pg. 102)
The White Rabbit is in his bunny form, his pocket watch shows the time to be 3:00.
(pg. 37)
The clock Julius wears points to 4:00
(pg. 36)
The clock Julius wears points to 3:00.
(pg. 35)
A wall clock points to 10:00.
If anyone has or can get the other volumes please feel free to contribute to the list. Just tell me the volume name and page number and whatever is going on while the clock is being shown that might be relevant.
I'm confused and annoyed. Theres no more books but that wasn't an ending. We don't find out what she wasn't meant to remember. I was really enjoying it up until then.
I really really loved this series a lot. The storyline was interesting, the art was fun to look at, the characters were really lovable. I enjoyed every moment of it. But, unfortunately, there is ONE thing I don't really care for, and it's Blood and Alice. I can understand where the attraction comes from from Blood...but really not from Alice. She's trying to tell them all to treat life more preciously yet... she falls for the head of the mafia? Right... I mean, don't get me wrong, he is sexy so I can see where an attraction would lie, but in terms of personality and what he stands for, she would be completely turned off. But of course, it had to be her happily ever after because in some way she got the guy she fell for in her world. Kind of lame.
Vivaldi is still a babe.
I'm definitely going to have to check out the other Alice series...es? though I'm not sure I'll like them as much because they're done by a different manga artist. But I'll give them a chance...maybe
This last book continues on in the same unsettling fantastic fashion but the problem is that there are just too many questions left unanswered nothing feels resolved. I guess this series represents one path that a gamer can take while playing the video game version and then there are other books that represent the other paths. Okay, but you should still give this series a feeling of either closure or a sense that more is to come. Instead the reader is left hanging, slightly confused thinking.... is this it? did I lose a few pages?
Still it definitely made me want to read the other books and left me wishing I could play the video game.
I do love this series. It leaves enough unsaid for the reader to stay curious (as any good Wonderland story should) and continue to read the spinoffs.
I will say this. I don't understand how Alice and Blood work especially when Blood is such an awful person. He does well as a bad guy as does Ace, but at least Ace has a reason why he is the way he is. (Though this story doesn't go into detail about that so you'll have to keep reading)
Note: The Alice in the Country of Hearts series is based on an Otome dating game. The resulting manga has spawned many different spinoffs. I recommend you read those too.
a short list of beings who would make a superior love interest over blood dupree:
1. vivaldi 2. cheshire 3. elliot 4. any of the faceless inhabitants of wonderland 5. a rock
alice. sweetheart. what exactly is attractive about a guy whose entire character consists of looking like your past love interest and being a dick to you? why?
this series has had two questions animating it: what exactly is going on vis-a-vis wonderland and alice's past and who will alice pick as a love interest. i really wish it had opted to finish by answering the first over the second. u_u 2 stars
This series was a lot of fun and I am definitely planning on reading some of the other series about Alice and the others.
Contains Chapters 25 - 35 Alice 25: Dance Lesson Alice 26: Rising of the Curtain Alice 27: Rondo Alice 28: Rabbit's Waltz Alice 29: Serenade Alice 30: Secret Garden Alice 31: Ticktock Alice 32: Distance Alice 33: Die Is Cast Alice 34: End of Dream Alice 35: Wonderful Wonder World
I was liking this series so much and right at the end it's decided that Blood is going to override whatever choice Alice made for herself and force her to do what he wants. Including sexually assaulting her again. This is not OK. She made her choice and they all should abide by it. But no, Fedorabro has to go force her of course because what is an otome game (and a manga based on an otome game) without the main character becoming a doormat at least once.
There were few problems honestly, but I'm not going to criticize it that much, cause I enjoyed it. It was a fast fun read. I kind of hate the violence in it, Peter White, and the ending was so unrealistic. I think her sister dies at the end, and that's why she will stay in the country of hearts at the end.
The story makes you think that there is a world that you will be loved in no matter what, it's kind of creepy and it just doesn't exist! This kind of world is a lie! Tha's why I think the series could've been better. It's not always about happy endings, especially about unrealistic happy endings.
I could accept a sad ending at the end, and I think we really don't need a world where we are always loved.

love the start and the build up, hated the ending.
don’t get me wrong, i love the mad hatter, but blood is an actual asshole. i loved every single character but him yet he’s the one that the story is mostly centred around. i literally do not care and the way alice kept chasing him even after him being such an ass ? please girl do better.
there were a lot of questions left unanswered or the way they were answered was very vague and i found those parts the most interesting like i need to know what’s happening with all that but no all we follow is just alice chasing blood for some dumb reason.
overall a disappointing ending to the story i think but it was fun meeting all the other characters, i fell in love with all of them and just the whole world was very comforting.
It was cute but even though the story has ended, I still feel that there is more being left unsaid. Especially with all this "Alice remembering" shit. I did enjoy everyone truly caring for her and vice versa. The ball was really a turning point. Peter, even though he is too much he truly loves Alice. He was so conflicted with himself over it. Then to find out that Blood is Vivaldis younger brother?! I did love how Vivaldi put Blood in his place about his feelings for Alice. It was weird because the fact that Nightmare plays such a crucial role in this story but we don't truly see why is upsetting. Then him mentioning her sister "the memories of you and Alice -until the time she remembers everything"... REMEMBERS WHAT?! But the biggest and best shock of all was that Blood came to her world to bring her back. He kissed her and convinced her to come back with him. Because she cares for everyone and I believe loves Blood, she did. But other than Peter trying to win her heart again, that's it. More questions than answers. Oh well.

That ending omg I can’t believe that blood was the one to go get Alice back from reality. I also am confused now because is Alice’s sister died since it looked like she was laying in a casket?
I give this book 4 stars for the storyline i feel like I’m this one there was more art panels than there was words unlike the other single volume books which I really didn’t care for but it was overall a really good book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books following Alice in the country of hearts.

Ugh, she chose the Hatter with whom she's always sparring just like in Country of Joker. Or did she? I liked that the last chapter was open-ended. And what's the deal with her sister being randomly dead? Just an excuse for her to stay in Wonderland I guess. I'm glad I read this series, because it introduced me to otome games...and to Julius. I'm sure I'll enjoy the Clockmaker spinoffs more as I am a hardcore Alice/Julius shipper.

Um.......uh........ok........don't expect a clear ending to this story is all I'm gonna say. The ending is good; it didn't piss me off or leave me wondering too much, but there are definitely some loose ends that should have been tied up. And personally speaking, I didn't care for who Alice ended up with. Characters being verbally abusive to each other = good foundation for a relationship? I don't think so.
I liked this book better then first and the most of it was great except for the lack of an actual ending!?!? This was the series finally everything is left open ended it wasn't much of an ending at all! And we never found out why Alice couldn't remember? Like what the heck so many missed things is making me want to give less stars but i enjoyed the beginning and middle so much!
The same issue from the last omnibus follows here (I don't like how it feels as if she's picking Hatter). As well as the fact that they drop some pretty big plot points at the end but since this is the end of the main series we don't get to find out whatever Nightmare was hinting at so it left me wanting a better conclusion definitely.
It's not my go-to type of story, but it did keep my interest, so I have to give it credit for that.
I will say I'm disappointed with how this first set of books ended, BUT I also know there's more books out there, so I suppose it could wind up having a satisfactory ending overall. I might seek them out.
Hatter and white rabbit are still my least favorite characters
I love Alice’s relationship with the Queen of Hearts and all of the Park characters. Hands down I wanted more of julius and Alice moments (I know they have a lot but I really like those two together) Also I want to know more about the country of clover
And to no one’s shock my favorite character is indeed the March Hare!
Even though the original series is super short, it's extremely adorable. I really loved the art and the comedy and everything about it. I'll definitely be looking up the other series by this name. This was great.
