The trouble with having a brother like Jack, is not only that he's messy and ruins all of Nancy's toys, but he is also extremely good at causing chaos at other people's birthday parties.
Shirley Hughes is the illustrator of more than two hundred children’s books and has won many prestigious awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal twice. She is the author-illustrator of DON'T WANT TO GO! and OLLY AND ME 1 2 3. She died at her home in London on the 25th of February, 2022.
If your children liked the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes, they will like this too. It's a slightly less-polished version, with sketchier (and more charming, I think) illustrations, featuring an older girl and her younger sibling, who is as annoying as Annie-Rose, and ends up trashing his sister's fifth birthday party, but eventually things work out in the end & Nancy has her party after all.
