Evie Hunter's "The Alibi" is an addictive revenge thriller with a compelling plot and well-drawn characters.
When Leona Carson discovers Scott's lies, she decides to end their relationship. However, Scott doesn't take rejection well. He begins a campaign to ruin Leona's life, just as he has done to many other women. Determined to stop Scott and reclaim her life, Leona seeks help from the police. But Scott always has an alibi—someone ready to take the blame. Frustrated by Scott's deceit, Leona tracks down his latest alibi, Hugo Rossiter. Instead of finding another excuse, she encounters a man who is equally fed up with Scott's actions. Together, they are determined to make him pay once and for all.
What Works:
- The story unfolds at a brisk pace, keeping readers hooked. The cat-and-mouse game between Leona and Scott adds tension and intrigue.
- Leona is a relatable protagonist, and Hugo brings depth to the narrative. Their motivations and struggles are well-developed.
- Evie Hunter explores themes of justice, revenge, and the consequences of deception. The moral dilemmas faced by the characters add layers to the story.
What Could Be Improved:
- The pacing is generally excellent, however there are moments when the plot feels rushed. A bit more exploration of certain events would enhance the overall impact.of the story.
That said, "The Alibi" is a gripping thriller and Evie Hunter's writing keeps readers engaged, and the unexpected twists make this a satisfying read. If you enjoy revenge-driven narratives with strong characters (as I do), then add "The Alibi" to your reading list.
