My baby requested this one frequently when maybe 3 up through 5. At first it was for Cate's natural sing song and perfect rhyme then because of Hughes' entertaining illustrations and finally just for the joy of knowing the "trick" to it - villagers who can't hear each other over the noise of the wind on their Hebridian isle. The listener could come up with misheard lines of her own, which is nice for fostering creativity. I wish I knew more about author Cate. Illustrator Hughes is quite well known for her fun characterizations.
