Read ATY 2021: book where author and title both contain u Reditt redux: book by author born in my country Pros:delightful story that bring back memories for someone like me who went to school around that time, with the Tom element as a lovely finish Cons: I wish I’d discovered it as a child
The story is about Lucy and her brother starting school. When Lucy was five her mom said she was ready for school and got a satchel, a pair of shoes, grey skirt and pencil case. She went to school but was not so brave until she saw her friend Jane who also looked very nervous. Then sh was happy at school but a boy called Neil Bailey kept pushing her in the play ground and she didn't like it. But her mom tells her why it's important to go to school and so she agrees to go. Seeing her go to school everyday her brother Tom also wanted tot go to school and he joins a playgroup and gets his own satchel and pencil case.
Another charming book by Shirley Hughes. Kids will both relate with Tom and Lucy greatly as they share the same hopes and pitfalls, and learn some completely new things as they read a book written decades ago. The same themes are still present: wanting to be big enough to go to school and getting to that age where you must go! The feelings are all still the same: feeling important, feeling jealous, feeling nervous, feeling brave... But some things are now dated such as packing a satchel and wearing a uniform. This is a sweet book and great for any little one starting school.
A beautifully illustrated story book following Lucy as she begins school and the impact of this on her younger brother, Tom. Perfect for any children at the start of their schooling!
