In The Limit of Desire we encounter one of my favorite romance themes- the past fling getting back together. Jessa and Ryder are fighting side by side in the Limit War and on their last leave they spent some very enjoyable few days on a nice and hot little beach paradise planet. They agreed to keep it at that and when they resume their duty they are just fellow soldiers- or that’s what they planned it to be. But then Jessa is missing and Ryder can’t stand the thought of her falling into the hands of the Dusk warriors.

Jessa is the captain of her unit. She is a strong leader with a compassionate heart. I really liked this chick. She is strong and never gives up. She treasures her memories of the time she spent with Ryder but also tries to ignore as best as she can. She has to be focused on her job to keep all the people who depend on her safe.
Ryder is a very endearing character. He’s in the war to help and not to step up the career ladder. He is funny and daring and always has some innuendo to share to put a little blush on Jessa’s face. I loved his teasing and joking side- he put a smile on my face rather often. He wants them to be more than just comrades but so far all his tries to get her back in his bed failed. When he hears that Jessa is missing his only goal is to get her back to safety. His determination is unwavering. Well what can I say about that besides just wow. Who wouldn’t fall for a man who will run right into the enemy zone just to save you?
I have to say the chemistry between these two was sizzling hot. They just fit each other and I was dying to see them finally get together. Let’s say Rosso really kept us waiting for that to happen. I loved how the tension was kept up with back flashes to the time they spent together. The main portion of this novella shows Jessa and Ryder sabotaging the enemies’ weapons. It is a very plot driven read with a focus on military ranks, strategies and how a “relationship” plays into that. Even more so because Jessa is actually Ryder’s boss. Both of them have to learn how deal with that and well then there is also the rest of the team.
I would have loved to see more of the romance in this book. We see them together and how they decide to give being a couple a chance but it always felt like the romance was a bit missing. The war and the fight is always very prominent and takes a huge part of you attention- it felt like it missed them really falling in love. In contrast to how the whole book the end was even a bit cheesy. A bit more balance between the war and the love story would have been perfect.
The Limit of Desire is an action packed science fiction novel with a couple you just have to like. A bit more feeling and passion would have made this a perfect read for me.

I give The Limit of Desire 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

How I got this book: eARC from author

I’m a big fan of science fiction romance, and when I got this request from Rosso I was nervous about starting in the middle of a series, but super excited to read it. Even though it’s the third book in the Limit War series, it was really easy to follow and readable as a stand alone.

Jessa is captain of her squad and a hard core soldier. Her one extended fling was with a man from her squad and with him she feels like a woman first and foremost. During a somewhat routine mission, Jessa gets separated from her squad and hurt during an attack. The last thing she expects is for Ryder to come and rescue her.

Ryder is content being a soldier, but if there is anything he wants more than to just survive, it’s Jessa. He risks everything by going to rescue her. And even after he finds her, they embark on a suicide mission behind enemy lines. But will their time together be enough to convince Jessa to take a chance on him?

Being a fan of both science fiction romance and suspense books, this novella was right up my alley. I loved that Rosso kept the plot moving right along. The action was high intensity and kept the story at a fast pace. I really enjoy the premise of the Limit War and the battle and fight scenes were very well done, I could picture everything running through my mind like a great movie.

I was also really impressed with how well Rosso was able to write a real and genuine female character. I’ve read some male authors heroine’s before where it doesn’t always work out that way, and I was so happy to really click with Jessa so early on in the story. Her struggle to find a balance between super soldier and her feminine persona was something that endeared her to me that much more. I loved her finding peace in deciding to be with Ryder and making it known to her squad that she could still be a badass and in love at the same time.

Ryder was great as well. He had such a laid back way about him, but when it really mattered, he was also ready to kick ass and take names. His desire for Jessa was obvious, and I really liked that he didn’t let her just brush him aside. That he was ready to fight for her and them, regardless of the potential loss.

All in all I really enjoyed this novella – I will definitely be checking out more books by Rosso in the future. The romance was real and sweet and sexy, the action was so realistic and kept the story moving at a pace that kept me engaged and at the edge of my seat. Science Fiction Romance fans will definitely want to check this one out!

Exciting scifi/military adventure with strong romantic elements.

THE LIMIT OF DESIRE features Captain Jessa Tok, who ends up being separated from her squad during an enemy attack. The last thing she expects to see behind enemy lines is Sergeant Ryder Hiltop, the one man she's been trying to put out of her mind since their extended leave together. Ryder isn't about to let their difference in ranks get in the way of something special and he will stop at nothing to get her back to safety. With their retreat cutoff, they embark on a daring mission that could turn the tide of the campaign and discover that their brief affair was anything but temporary.

THE LIMIT OF DESIRE is the third book in the Limit War series, but if you haven't read the first two books, like me, it is actually quite easy to become engaged in the story, characters and universe. The fast pace of the story is a great treat for science fiction fans and universe specific terminology flows easily within the story without hampering the reader.

Even though this story is easily accessible, I did feel that this story was an episode of an established series, which makes this more of a love story instead of a romance. Jessa and Ryder are already in an established, if somewhat vague, romantic relationship. They are lovers before the story starts and that makes this story more about them coming to terms with the permanence of their relationship than about their courtship.

I do wish there was a bit more explanation about the universe to round out the experience, but I totally appreciate of choice that Mr. Rosso made in passing on the ‘sex break' scene. There is smut but it is very cleverly done.

For its short length, THE LIMIT OF DESIRE is an action filled science fiction love story that is entertaining and worth reading. I will definitely look for more stories in this universe.

This is the third book in the Limit Wars series. I'm going in blind as I have not read the previous stories, however I was not totally lost. The author did a pretty good job at explaining the particulars of the world I found myself in as we went along without dragging on the story.

Who would've thought you could have a book so action-packed. It starts off from page 1 and doesn't stop pretty much until the end. Kinda like a good military action movie, but without "humans".

Even though the book centered around a main couple, and there was some relationship building, it was all weaved in through all the action of the Limit War. I found this a bit distracting at times. I wish they would've gotten a break at some point, as unrealistic as that would probably be in their situation. But you know how in books the couples always find time and a deserted place where they can get freaky during a battle? Well, that was missing here.

Captain Jessa Tok is a tough chick. She knows what she's doing, she's strong, she's had to be to get to where she is today. Sergeant Ryder Hiltop is part of her team, and the man she had an affair while on vacation. She's stayed away from him after returning to duty but now he's ready to make her face the feelings between each other. His plans get interrupted when they're attacked and Jessa is missing.

The one man rescue operation is successful but from there there's nothing but obstacles for them to overcome.

I liked both characters. I have to admit that as I was reading, everytime I read Jessa's pale blue skin description I had that song by Eiffel 65 stuck in my head (I'm Blue) so that has become the soundtrack to this story for me! Just enough romance but light on the steam and plenty action, it was a fun quick read!
