Edit: Ugh, and now he can read her mind. That's it. I'm done. DNF.

I'm not quite done yet, but let's see...

This girl moves with her dad to this new tiny town. She meets a boy who seems to be intrigued by her immediately. He lives with his siblings, is insanely rich, and is a little mysterious with a reputation to never stick with one girl.

Then when we learn more about him and his powers, we learn that Remy lets him feel again, which is something that he craves--dangerously so--and that him and his family have to control themselves to not kill her for this "craving". Not to mention how faster, stronger, and all around better than he is than a human--and immortal!

Sound familiar?

Hats off to a book where the guys in the neighbourhood seem to all magically pass puberty with flying colours!

So Remy is a Healer. Asher is a Protector. And every time they're near each other it's kinda like this:

But being a Healer is dangerous...for both of them. Gabe, Asher's brother, tries to warn them - acting like a total jerk in the process. You can just imagine his face every time Asher disregards his advice:

Remy swears that she sees her evil (twisted, sadistic, creepy and downright stuffed up in the head) stepfather around town, but no one can find him, and she believes it to be a figment of her imagination. And I was freaking out, because foreshadowing is always a sign that shit is going to go down:

And then there are those downright adorable scenes where Asher gets all 'macho' and protective of her - trying to push her away. Normally, I'd be rolling my eyes, but Asher is so sincere in his worry and their mental connection allows them to understand where each one is coming from.

I've been touched by this book and am reluctant to let it go. Ever. At all. To anyone. :D

"I don't want to die"

Color me awesome!!! Touched completely blew me away and totally exceeded my expectations!!

Remy comes from an abused home, taken away from her father by her mother when she was born she has lived with her mother and step-father and endured his abuse alongside her mother for many years. But Remy is no normal girl, for she has the ability to heal others and herself, the catch, any injury she heals she absorbs herself and then must use her own energy to heal it. If thats not enough it's her bodies natural ability to want to heal anyone around her with an injury or illness so Remy had to learn early on to block her abilities so that they wouldn't reach out to everyone around her. When she is hospitalized at the age of 17 for the last time by Dean, her step father, her biological father, Ben, is notified. Believing he abandoned her at a young age she wants nothing to do with his proposal that she come live with him. But Ben refuses to take no for an answer and Remy moves from Brooklyn to Blackwell Falls, a small town on the coast of Maine. Introduced to a new family she never thought she would have contact with and a home full of love and comfort, Remy begins to realize the life she could have lived if her mother had not kept her from it. But then she meets Asher, a boy who has abilities, a boy whose energy can affect her own, a boy she is drawn to like no other she has ever known. Together they will discover a love never before seen in their supernatural world and the truth about who Remy really is and why both factions either want to use her, or kill her.

I've read some reviews that compare this to twilight and I won't lie, it does have some twilightesc similarities.

a. Immortal boy falls in love with the new girl in school
b. he and family want to kill her and have to work hard not to and end up protecting her.
c. he can read her mind
d. her friends tell her he is dangerous and unattainable
e. The cover of Twilight and the cover of Touched do look alike

Other than these factors, which are pretty general and could compare to a lot of books, nothing of Touched is remotely like Twilight. For one, and this is the most important factor, Remy is freaking amazing!!! She kicks major ass and doesn't need to wait to become a Vampire to stand up for herself. When she thinks that she might be bringing Asher into a dangerous world, she is prepared for him to walk away and while it will break her heart she will move on with her life, unlike our dear Bella who sits in her room for 6 months and acts like a psycho with her friends. Remy makes Asher work for her attention and doesn't just cave the minute he shows an interest. She fights and continues to fight back against the man who has abused her for years. She never gives in and she never gives up and no matter what he does to her he can't break her, no one can, not even Asher. She knows what she wants and she doesn't let Asher dictate the relationship. When Asher acts like he might leave to protect her she puts a stop to that pronto instead of running around in the woods and passing out under a log like a suicidal weirdo.

So for all those people out there that saw too much of Twilight in Touched, look again because Touched is so much better. Twilight had a decent premise, yes we all love the sexy boy who falls in love with the new girl and he also happens to be a vampire with powers. Great premise but Bella was horrible and Edward kind of bordered on creepy at times and the most annoying thing about their relationship was that he was only interested in her because he couldn't read her mind. Well note to Edward, we as the reader unfortunately can and let me tell you, nothing interesting goes on up there. In fact if you could have read her mind you really would not have been interested. But Touched takes the premise of the sexy unattainable supernatural boy who falls in love with the new girl and rocks it. While Asher can read Remy's mind, it;s a mind I love being in and one I'm sure he enjoys as well. Remy is so much more evolved for her age because of everything she has been through that she is a warrior you can't help but want to root for every step of the way. There is no eye rolling at Asher and Remy's relationship and the ending scene, well let me tell you, Remy can take some shit and still be spit fighting strong. What Bella went through pales in comparison to what Remy went through and in the end, she fought the villain off on her own. Yes she borrowed some powers, but she fought the fight all by herself. Freaking brilliant ending and definitely has me very very excited for the next book.

Corrine Jackson, ignore all of those people too busy seeing the Twilight comparisons to actually read Remy and Ashers' story because Stephanie Meyers has nothing on you girl. This book was fantastic start to finish, I read it all in one day and I was gripped by the story, the characters, the issues of abuse and the beautiful, but at times hard to read, journey of having gone through hell and coming out a better person. Plus the love story between Asher and Remy just can't be beat... *sigh*

Note to future readers: I have re-read my favorite parts a thousand times & you will too because the book is THAT GOOD!!

Can you say Twilight rip-off?

Yeah. That's what this is. No doubt about it.

This was.. An interesting, pathetic attempt at copying Twilight. First, the characters:
Remy:First thing I thought of when I heard this name: Renesme. Don't you think so? Remy. Renesme. MMm-hmm. That's what I thought. Next, Jackson tries to make her such a "strong" character. She's always like I'm SO brave. No. You're not. Trust me, she is weak. Heck, she's weaker than Bella. Ugh. She makes me sick. I mean, she's getting ABUSED! Tell someone! Grr. She makes me so frustrated.

Asher:Ah, Asher. Our Edward rip-off. It's like she ripped Edward from Twilight and glued him onto Touched. I can now see why rip-off is called rip-off. Asher is so(do you hear the sarcasm there?) perfect. And he can frikin read minds, people. See the pattern here? And Remy and Asher have these "walls" inside their minds to block each other out. Like Bella in Breaking Dawn, where she had that ability to protect them from the Volturi. Asher's the girl everyone wants. Except me and a bunch of real people. *gags* I wouldn't want that cheesy butter ball anywhere near me. Ugh. Hate him too.

*Those are our two main characters, folks. Yipee. Not. I usually give 5 stars, cuz I'm really nice. (I am).BUt this? This is unacceptable. I don't even know why she isn't charged for plagiarism. Here is my evidence

He can read her MIND. WHAT. THE. HECK.

*Instant Love. Bella and Edward fell in love at first sight. So did Remy and Asher.

*Rich, perfect boy. Not a flaw, super rich. Like mansion-rich.

*The boy is immortal. In other words, he can live forever.

*Boy wasn't interested any girl, no matter how much they wanted him, and when main girl came, he started to love her.

*Kidnapping. In Twilight, James lured Bella to come and attacked her. Edward came to her rescue. In Toucher, the same thing happened, except it happened with Remy and Dean, her abusive stepfather. Asher came to her rescue.

*The boy insists CONSTANTLY how he's to "dangerous" for the girl, but refuses to do anything about it, like HOW ABOUT BREAKING UP WITH HER SO THIS WHOLE STUPID SERIES CAN BE OVER?!?! Duh. Obvious solution, right here for sale.

*The girl goes to live with her dad.

I could go on and on and on until the end of time comes. But I think this is enough for now for you to decide that you won't buy this book to support Stephenie Meyer and all those other authors who got ripped off. I mean, this book was so obvious that it copied Twilight, that I don't know how she wasn't ashamed to publish it. In fact, I felt ashamed for her. It was really that bad. I mean, seriously, Jackson, GET. A. STINKING. LIFE. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. Now, as a serious fan of Twilight, I DEMAND this book to be reported to someone who cares to.. Discard it, or whatever. I mean, can it be ANY MORE OBVIOUS that this is like a fanfic of Twilight?IMPORTANT: Guess what? I unleashed the stalker side of me and went to check the books Jackson has read. The whole Twilight series.. Read. By her. I can't STAND this woman! Sheesh. Rant finished.

Oh yeah. I almost forgot. WHERE, JUST WHERE COULD I HAVE SEEN THE COVER BEFORE?!?!?!?!

You might think this book is about paranormalcy--and you'd be forgiven. That's certainly in there, and done well, and originally, and with a unique spin that grazes against Janice Hardy but takes it in a cool, different direction. Remy steals pain from people, and heals them by taking the pain upon herself--sometimes with disastrous results.

You might think this book is about romance--again, yes, technically, that's in there. And it's a gorgeous romance between Remy and Asher, two lonely young people that are two pieces in the same cosmic balancing act--they're designed for each other, in a way that never seems cheesy or fake, only deep and soulful. More than that, they DESERVE each other, like all the crappiness in their lives delivered them to a relationship to balance it out.

But TOUCHED really isn't those things. Only because by the time I finished, I just felt like this novel was about how to survive. How to be someone that survives, and not just physically, like Remy has to do in the wake of her incredibly abusive past, but emotionally. How to learn to love, trust, and HEAL after awful things happen to you and you question your true worth, your value. More than that, how to still be a person who give something back to the world.

I loved this book. Loved loved loved. I can't wait for the next--and how cool is SENSE THIEVES for a trilogy name? SO COOL.

Wow. This was really kinda disappointing. I was really expecting a book with a new kinda story...... But it wasn't. Honestly, it was like Jackson took a bunch of YA paranormal romance novels, like Twilight and Die for Me and a few others, and tried to cram them into one book.
Remy goes to live with her dad after her abusive stepfather goes too far, and hospitalizes her, which usually, wouldn't be a big deal for her, because she has this uncanny ability to heal people and herself, with just a touch, and burst of her 'Energy'. Then she meets this guy named Asher, that you can tell from the first time that they meet (and touch), that his energy is different. Remy describes like his energy is trying to attack hers, like he's trying to take it. (but for some reason, the girl doesn't seem to think that when they touch and she is in extream pain that it might be a good idea to stay away from him.......) As it turns out, Asher has to fight this THIRST -oops, I mean "hunger"- to not kill Remy, and take her energy every time that he's with her, which start to become a problem when they fall in love, like, not even a month after they meet......(*Cough*TWILIGHT*cough-cough*) Then, just to top it all off, Remy's crazy Step-dad is out to get her, and hell-bent on revenge.....
It's not that the books bad.... It's just...... Meh. That's the only way to describe it. The only thing that is very original about this book is the idea of healing someone with a touch, and that idea has been floating around in my head for a while anyways. I have defiantly read worse but, when it comes to things being un-original..... I think this might take the cake.

You know those types of books that give such a rush that you want to do nothing but dive into the book over and over again? Yeah, that's this book. Touched is such a great and amazing story!

The best part about this book is the plot. I loved that it started off hard and raw, leading the reader down a painful road. Then it let up, allowing the reader to stand up, brush off our shoulder, and step into a whole new world. The author did an amazing job in creating a great back round history. I love a good story that is filled with fascinating info. The war, what they really are, and how they came to be today, that is the icing on the cake!

The love interest of course is fierce and so exciting. The bouncing back and forth of sarcastic comments is done tastefully. Meaning, there no dragging out the love/hate relationship. Thank YOU! As much as I like to see two opposite people fall in love, it's turns me off when its like that throughout the whole book. The love interest is so worth wait and once they are together, BAM! There is no stopping them,

Touched is a great debut that I want more of. Touched accomplishes the perfect tone of long history just waiting to be change. It offers a new chance for history to play out differently. Touched keeps the readers heart racing with each chapter.

When I saw the early summary for this book, the first thing that came to mind was that the girl had the same ability as the protagonist in Touch of Power, a book I had just finished recently back then. Plus the titles are rather similar too. But then I came across this interview and thought it why not? It sounds interesting.

Then the early reviews came in and mentioned the similarities to Twilight but I still read this because I was curious. For the early part of the book it was really good and I liked Remy a lot. Just as I was really getting into the story BAM the similarities started popping up. It was just there. The circumstances may be different but there were so many parallels as the story proceeded. Maybe they were there from the very beginning but it took longer to kick in because my memories of Twilight were foggy? I dunno.

What I do know is that Touched can be quite a good read if you can overlook the similarities. Remy is a likable character. She's smart, sensible (not rushing headfirst into danger like a whole lot of other YA heroines who think they are so tough) and is not overdependent like Bella. I also liked how the initial relationship between Remy and Asher developed and would have given this book a higher rating it continued to develop at a more natural pace instead of suddenly becoming an epic love melodrama. The you're-my-one-true-love and I'll-die-for-you kind. Not really my thing.

Hi Everyone!

Why has the German edition of TOUCHED been published months in advance of the English edition? I get asked this question often, and I thought I would give you a peek at the happenings. Honestly, it's a simple matter of logistics and publishing schedules. My debut novel (IF I LIE) was slated to release Aug 2012 with TOUCHED out three months later in the US. Then TOUCHED sold to a German publisher who had room in their schedule to release the trilogy much, much sooner. And since they weren't awaiting the release of my debut novel, they went ahead and released TOUCHED in Feb. In fact, the entire trilogy will be published in German in advance of the English editions, and it's been exciting to see how well the novel has been received by German readers. And now, I can't wait for it to release in the US on Nov 27!

Best,
Corrine

One thing I can say about Touched is that I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I not read Twilight and Touch of Power before. Basically, there are way too many parallels between the books that seriously impaired my enjoyment. Let me explain (contains some minor spoilers for Twilight and Touched):

Twilight vs Touched
Twilight: Protagonist Bella Swan moves to her father's home in Forks when her mother meets a new man.
Touched: Protagonist Remy O'Malley moves to her father's home in Blackwell Falls (I think that's what it was called...) when her stepfather abuses her.

Twilight: Bella meets Edward, who is practically royalty in Forks: phenomenally rich, good looking etc. and is able to win him over after initial avoidance/hate.
Touched: Remy meets Asher, who is practically royalty in Blackwell Falls (which, incidentally, is named after his family): also phenomenally rich, good looking etc. as well as a playboy, and manages to win him over after initial avoidance/hate.

Twilight: Bella's blood is like the finest wine to an alcoholic (or other some such crap) to Edward (who is a sparkly vampire by the way) and so is cautioned not to get too close to him for fear of causing injury/losing control and sucking her like a juicebox. She should also stay away from the rest of the family in case they lose control and suck her dry.
Touched: Whenever Remy and Asher touch, green sparks fly (rather like static electricity) and Remy attempts to heal Asher, causing him great pain. Oh, and there's also the risk that Asher steals all of Remy's energy and Remy dies. Or Asher dies. Yay! (that was sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell). Remy should also stay away from the family as draining her energy means that a Protector can feel human again and it's possible that Asher's brother or sister may accidentally (or purposely) kill her for the chance to regain their human senses.

Twilight: Edward has the ability to read minds, but is unable to read Bella's for reasons that are later explained (in Breaking Dawn). Edward is also immortal (being a vampire)
Touched: Asher is Remy's Protector and therefore has the ability to read her mind. Asher is also immortal.

Twilight: Bella is disliked by Rosalie, one of Edward's sisters.
Touched: Remy is disliked by Asher's sister (whose name I can't remember)

Twilight: Bella is endangered by Edward's vampire buddies, and is stalked/hunted by James (one of said buddies).
Touched: Remy is endangered by Asher's Protector friends and is stalked by her stepfather (whose name I also cannot remember- yeah this book is turning out to be pretty memorable...)

Touch of Power vs Touched: title similarity questionable?
Touch of Power: "Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself."
Touched: "Remy O'Malley heals people with touch- but every injury she cures becomes her own."

If I thought about it, I could probably draw more parallels, but I really can't be screwed. Honestly, if I hadn't read Twilight before this book, I would have easily given it 8 or 9 out of 10, but I couldn't give it such a high score for such blatant copying of ideas. Have a read and judge for yourself.
(Also, not quite sure why 5 Goodreads users shelved it as "erotica" because if it is, I obviously wasn't concentrating while reading the book, because I didn't see anything that would justify shelving it as such.)

Of neyse, öyle yani. Serinin devamı çevrilmediğinde genelde üzülürüm fakat bu kitap çevrilmiş olsa, çevrilmemiş diğer serilere haksızlık olurdu.

The domestic abuse overshadows everything & is the reason why I rated this novel so low! I do not condone that in reality or in novels!

I picked this novel because of all the reviews saying it’s a copycat of “Twilight” & yes could see a LOT of similarities which is the main reason why I started & finished this book!

There were spelling errors which are unnecessary, but not to the point that I don’t want to continue! Pacing & tone are okay not as fluid at times, but overall okay! This is definitely a young adult novel yet has the violence especially to kids I can’t get past why her mother did not stand up even if she didn’t feel worthy of a good man because of her past—as a MOTHER she shouldn’t have allowed it to happen to her kid—her daughter of all people by a stepfather! Parents are supposed to protect & love their young!!!!

I felt the author should’ve put in a section about if you feel like this here is the number to get a hold of someone you do not have to live in this kind of violence! If only to try to bring some drama/action/intensity to her otherwise one dimensional fictional characters they have lasting impacts in the real world especially due to the main audience reading this type of novel!! That really did distract me from this fictional world that she molded!

Do I recommend this novel—no!
Reasoning—I hate domestic abuse of any kind & I know it’s a sad fact of reality, but that’s just it—reality! Not in a fictional book of my choosing! I was sooooo excited to read a “copycat” “retelling” whatever you want to label it as of Stephanie Meyers TWILIGHT which I absolutely LOVE!!!! I read anything even remotely related to it—yeah Fifty Shades I’m looking at you 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 which is another reason why I was so disappointed with this “new version” why do you have to make what would of been a fun quick read I would of enjoyed a lot more...fluff pieces have there time & place!

I have to start off by saying I just love the name Remy. I know it's a silly thing, but a name can just set the tone for a book and the more I read, the more I unraveled the multifaceted girl behind the unique moniker. What I loved about Remy was that she was a beautifully balanced mix of strength and weakness. A also adored that she wasn't a block head. By that I mean that I've noticed a trend where the MC is almost too heavily vested in fighting off the good things that happen. Realistically, we all make some dumb choices in life, but for me there also comes a point where I roll my eyes and say...

"Seriously? Well, that was just stupid. My cat even understands that this person cares about you."

Remy wasn't stupid--she had her insecurities and many legitimate reasons to be cautious, but she also was able to embrace some of the good things that were happening to her. I found that I really enjoyed that as a reader--even as a person who likes a little angst in her books.

I also loved the premise of TOUCHED. The concept of healers and protectors really took the paranormal into a completely different direction for me. I am intrigued by books that make me peek over my shoulder because I start to wonder if there really could be folks walking around with "unusual hidden talents". I love to imagine worlds within my own existence and this book sparked that in me. TOUCHED was very fascinating and I can't believe that I'm going to have to wait to find out what happens next. Grrrrrr

Ring a bell?

Living with an abusive stepfather is awful. With a mother who keeps begging her not to report the abuse to the authority, Remy feels betrayed, hurt and unloved. When her biological father decides to step in and take her away from the abusive household, Remy is unsure of whether she truly deserves to have a fresh start. People from her new school seem nice. Her stepmother and half-sister are kind and supportive but for some reason she can’t explain, Remy feels like she is being watched. Is she just being paranoid or is there something really wrong happening?

Although Remy has gone through a lot of pain and tough situation, I like that she is a fighter. She never expects others to take care of her and she is always looking for ways to help herself become stronger. With a healing ability that somewhat fascinates and infuriates her abusive stepfather, Remy chooses not to heal herself rapidly, hoping that her stepfather would leave her alone and stop coming up with new ways to torture her. It’s really sad for me to see how much pain Remy has to go through and I question why her mother never does anything to protect her. Because Remy can’t rely on her mother to save her, she stops trusting people. And when she learns that her biological father never means to abandon her, she has a hard time sorting through her feelings for her mother. I too have a hard time seeing why a mother would choose to put her daughter in harm’s way, and even though her mother is also a victim of abuse, I don’t feel like I have much sympathy for her.

While some Protectors hunt Healers out of cruelty, fear and hatred, not every Protector feels the same degree of animosity towards Healers. Although the story behind why the Protectors started a war against the Healers sounds kinda plain, I like the idea of how the sense of touch is lost when a Protector kills a Healer. I guess being immortal without the ability to feel sensual is quite an awful punishment but if you ask me whether or not the Healers deserved to die, my answer is a definite no. It’s morally unjust to end a human life through killing, don’t you think?

Asher and Remy form an interesting pair. Being a Protector, Asher bears the instinct to protect. Even after he becomes immortal and craves to drain the power of a Healer to temporarily feel human senses, I like that he chooses not to give in to his craving. When Asher becomes aware of his duty to protect Remy, he chooses to fulfill his role instead of walking away. It’s surely not an easy path for Asher but I like that he values the preciousness of innocent human lives. I also like that Remy doesn’t fall head over heels for Asher right away. The spark of romance doesn’t seem forced and while they feel mutually attracted to one another, I like that there isn’t any rush in making them become a couple. It’s pleasant to watch them gradually get to know one another and open up to accepting and trusting each other. I like that the relationship is romantic but not cheesy.

What I find quite interesting is that in a way, reading Touched is like watching how the question of “who protects whom” is being played over and over:

- Are adults supposed to be protecting their children?
- Does the role of a father involves protecting and offering shelter for his child?
- Can a daughter be demanded to save her mother?
- Can the authority really protect the lives of the innocence?

I guess the theme of “who protects whom” will continue to play a part throughout the trilogy, but what really lingers in my mind after finishing the book is whether it’s an act of self-defense or murder when a victim gets so angry that he or she aims to kill the abuser in order to stop the pain. I don’t think I have an easy answer to that but I appreciate the way how Jackson approaches the topic in the story.

If you ask me how I think of the book, I’d say Touched surprised me.

With a pretty cover, I sort of assumed Touched would be a light read with a somewhat steamy romance. What I didn’t expect was how much time I spent pondering on issues like morality, ethics and values after reading the book. I literally spent hours thinking before turning on my computer to write this review. Who would have thought?!

Although this is the first time I read a book by Corrine Jackson, I don’t think it will be my last. I like her writing style and I really like the way how she doesn’t shy away from approaching tough topics through putting her characters in rough situations and gruesome conditions.

I’ll definitely be looking forward to reading the next installment of this series.

I admit, I was hesitant to start this book. The whole “magical powers enacted by touching people” idea has been done before many times in YA lit. I can think of at least two stories I’ve read already with similar concepts and another one that I know about just off the top of my head. But Jackson manages to tell such a unique intriguing story with one of the strongest heroines I’ve come across in a while. I can’t say I loved this one, but I greatly enjoyed it.

To begin, this book is not for everyone. There are many sequences of physical abuse that are pretty detailed. If violence makes you uncomfortable, this certainly isn’t the book for you. Remy’s stepfather, Dean, is an alcoholic. He feeds off of not only Remy’s pain, but her mother’s as well. And instead of allowing him to ruin her life, she allowed him to make her stronger. She wouldn’t break under him, despite the fact that he would break her bones because he was so maniacal. She became emotionally fortified and determined to survive--easily one of the toughest characters (both physically and emotionally) that I have found in a long time. I really enjoyed this aspect of Remy’s characterization because she wasn’t looking for sympathy and pity the way many abused characters do. While the abuse was a huge part of her life that caused her to create a huge shell around herself, when forced to face new situations she slowly opened herself to the possibility of a normal life with friends, family, and most of all, love. It’s safe to say I really, really like her.

But I have to say that the most interesting concept of this novel was her “super-power” and the lore that came hand-in-hand with her enemy. Remy has the ability to heal others by touching them. She simply has to picture their wound and the energy from her body will enter theirs to end their pain, but by doing so she will make their maladies her own. If she goes too far she can experience severe hypothermia and extreme pain that makes it seem as if she herself will die. I really loved the selflessness she exhibited at all times when helping others. And what I found even more interested was the concept of Protectors. They’re pretty much like superhuman ninjas because they’re fast, they’re immortal, they’re drop-dead gorgeous--but they can’t feel anything. The price of immortality? The loss of your senses. Whereas Healers like Remy feel too much, Protectors like Asher and his family feel too little.

While I must admit that Asher was a very great love interest because of his genuine concern, love, and care for Remy, I think that their story was very cliche in the beginning. It’s very new girl moves to town and is immediately fascinated by the town bad boy that is known for using girls so everyone she quickly befriends warns her off him immensely and she ignores everything they say. While I really liked the two of them, I was hoping such a unique story could avoid the cliche aspects of the plot line.

Full of one of the best cast of characters I’ve come across in a while, Jackson tells a story of selflessness and self-discovery with a really great and unique paranormal twist. If you’re looking for a unique romance with a perfect dash of paranormal abilities, this is a book that you will enjoy.

17-year-old Remy has a special gift – she can heal people with just a touch, and absorb their injury into herself. When Remy and her mother both end up in hospital following a beating from Remy’s step-father, Remy goes to live with her father instead, and meets bad-boy Asher, who seems to like her.
Why is Remy able to heal? What secret is Asher hiding? And who else knows Remy’s secret?

This was a really good story, even if it was a bit cliché at times.

I liked Remy even if she was a bit too self-sacrificing. She was so selfless that she willingly endured other people’s pain, which at times put her in a really weak position, and left her open to attack.
I have to say that I really liked Asher! He was so sweet, and I loved the way he flirted with Remy.

I liked the storyline, even though I could see how it might have been compared to twilight (immortal boy, fast car, living with father, bad guy out to get her etc.), and I liked the writing too. I also really liked the little twists in this story, and liked the bits that I didn’t expect.
There was some romance, and again, I really liked Asher! They made a really cute couple, and I liked the way their relationship worked.
The ending was good, and I liked the action. I did think that one of the things revealed in the epilogue was maybe a little obvious, but that didn’t spoil the story. We were left with a bit of a cliff-hanger, but to be honest I expected that. I’m looking forward to book two to find out what happens to Remy and Asher next!
Overall; great YA paranormal romance,
8 out of 10.

Is it just me or does this sound like it has the exact same premise as Bruiser by Neal Shusterman...? Oh well, sounds pretty cool anyway.

I felt a little of twilight in there !!
so Remy is a healer and Asher is a protector .in the past they both were alies but after the protectors discovered that by killing a healer they become immortal they changed sides ..

Asher and his family killed healers but by accident thus they are bound to live for eternity ..but is it really what they want .!

Remy and Asher meet and Sparks happened like literally ugh!! they both try to stay away from each other but after healing him and something changes they become closer and the more time they spend together the more they form a bound ....love

when Remy's life is in danger Asher becomes her protector

PS: why did it feel like Asher had no powers like he wasn't the one protecting her ..I felt like he was weak .. I was disappointed

Today, I find myself with nothing to read (on hand). With my phone MIA and unreplaced (I know, I know, however will I live?) I have no NetGalley, no iBooks, and nothing to read. So guess what I picked up? Dickens. Man in talented, can really string together sentances, but though A Tale of Two Cities was a brilliant read, not much for a rainy day. God bless my bestie for loaning out her Kindle!!

I find myself with Touched, which immediately piqued my interest. (Your welcome for straying off the path of title puns).

Summary
Remy is a Healer, and before she met Asher, she doesn't know all that encompasses. So far, she lives with her mom and her abusive husband, Dean, who frequently beats on them. Dean has a sneaking suspicion of Remy's abilities, the ability to heal others wounds, but he does not know that when she heals, she takes on the wound herself. When Remy is committed to the hospital, yet again, her well to-do father is called, and he flies to Brooklyn from Maine to take her back with him. Remy knows that once she is gone, Dean will release even more of a living hell on her mom, but when she once again refuses to blame Dean for the beatings- "If only I'd gotten his beer faster" "You shouldn't look at him that way"- she is done. Back in Blackwell Falls, Remy finds a sister just under her own age, and gains the family she's always dreamed she had.

It's when Asher Blackwell gets involved, that she goes from the frying pan into the fire. Known as a Protector, he is similar to Remy in that he lives more in the Shadow World that Remy only frequents. New mysteries arise, pasts collide and people fall in a spell binding tale of hope, healing and rebellion. (That was my Kirkus Review imitation. Pretty good, ay?)

Thoughts
The delivery was superb, and Remy's voice was very cultured but vulnerable. For as hardened, rebellious and fortified as she was, I felt that what the author was trying to get through "between the lines" was a bit lost in translation, and some of her actions did not always reflect her emotions and personality. I did feel the romance went a bit fast, and because of the likeness I found in this book to Obsidian (Lux) by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I was expecting (hoping) for the slow-burn, passionately teasing romance, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Though plot sequencing was a bit disappointing. Jackson did a exquisite job on the delivery and I love her writing style and the way she portrays her characters, though sometimes that portrayal doesn't always shine through their actions and stay consistent throughout the story.

Cue title puns: This book really was very entertaining, and I hope it touches you, like it did me.

Yup, just as cheesy as I suspected. Can't wait for the next book!

Inhalt

Meine eigene Meinung
Was ich gut fand

Touched left me a bit confused. I enjoyed it, but I felt like I was reading more a YA contemporary rather than a fantasy/paranormal story. Even though there was plenty of healing going on, there were a lot of family issues and fun high school times. I would have liked a little more on why Remy has this power to heal, and how. You eventually find this out, but not until more than half of the book. I guess I jumped into it expecting this whole world on healers. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the book, but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting.

Remy’s life is basically hell. Her step-father abuses her and her mother on a daily basis. Her mother refuses to leave him and when her step-father goes a little too far; Remy is sent to live with father. Not even a day with her father she meets Asher. Asher and Remy have a lot in common and they don’t even know it. They have an instant connection, but the both of them decide to keep their distance. Once Remy is settled in her new life things get even weirder.

No secret that the back and forth between Asher and Remy bugged me. It’s one of those things I hate in books. Asher would get close, tell Remy he’s bad for her, but doesn’t explain why? And then he pulls away. This happens at least five times before you reach the middle of the book. Why didn’t I quit reading then? Well there were a lot of other interesting things going on to hold my attention. Plus, it was sort of cute the way they flirted and teased each other. I found myself smiling a lot at the things Asher would do to get Remy’s attention.

One thing I did like a lot was Corrine Jackson’s take on healers. I've been reading a lot of books lately on magic and healers, and I found Jackson’s take unique. When things finally came to light I actually thought to myself wow, that’s pretty neat. Obviously I can’t say more or I would be giving away a huge spoiler, but it definitely wasn’t what I predicted.

In the end, I was happy with the way things ended and how it all played out. I am curious if there will be a sequel to Touched. It was engaging enough for me to finish it. I recommend Touched and think readers will like it.

3 out of 5 stars.

Remy bir şifacı, çevresindeki insanların hastalıklarını,yaralarını vs iyileştiriyor. Ve bunu bazen elinde olmadan yapıyor. Ancak buna iyileşmeden çok,absorbe etmek demeliyiz sanırım çünkü aynı sıkıntıyı kendi bedenine çekmiş oluyor Remy. Ah kızımız çok fedakar. :D

Favorite quote:
“How can you possibly think I’d want you to sacrifice yourself to save me? As if there wasn’t enough danger, now I have to worry you’ll take a bullet for me.”
My arms crossed as his anger ignited my own.
“As if, you jerk. You can take your own stupid bullet.”

This is my second book of Corrine Jackson and I'm really happy to see that I loved it as much as I loved If I Lie; though the two stories couldn't be more different, my enjoyment and the tears I shed certainly prove that I'm falling for Ms. Jackson incredible writing. The subjects she deals with are not for the faint of heart and not ones you see much in young adult novels these days.

What I love about her heroines (and I hope she won't change that at all) is that, they are not meek or dependent in spite of their misery. Remy spent five years of her life suffering through domestic abuse at the hands of her stepfather but she wouldn't let him take pleasure in seeing her cry or crumple to his feet begging for him to stop. No. She stood silent to protect her mother and as long as she could heal her multiple injuries.

My heart wrenched every time she related what the monster did to her body day after day and what hurt the most was seeing her completely broken emotionally as well, thinking she isn't worth saving or dying for, until Asher Blackwell came along.

Their chemistry and sweet love story was off the charts. Her reactions to his protectiveness were priceless (as shown by the quote above) and it felt good to see for once a heroine capable of taking care of herself and letting a boy love her for her and not just waiting around for him to save the day. In a way he healed her heart and made her believe she's worth it (which brought me to tears, again)

I already miss Remy and Asher and I can't wait to read more of Corrine Jackson's books; because Asher Corrine you really captured my heart.

*Review posted on Page Turners Blog on 2/24/2013*

The entire time I read Touched, I kept thinking that this is how a paranormal story should be written. I’ve read so many paranormal plot lines (as I’m sure you all have, too) and frankly, I’ve been a little burned out on the use of all too familiar tropes and clichés in recent releases. But Corrine is a masterful writer and in her capable hands, the story of Remy becomes unbelievably real.

First there’s Remy’s backstory – the reason she went to live with her estranged father. I clutched the book a little tighter because my heart may have been breaking for Remy. Her journey was incredible, devastating and empowering all at once. The relationship she creates with her father is one that rang true because it allowed for time, trust and most of all, healing.

The real delight in the story, at least for me, was the romance between Remy and Asher. Oh, it’s so perfect, you guys. So very, very perfect and so very, very doomed. As I discovered more about Asher and his family, I desperately wanted a different outcome for Remy and Asher. If you can hear me clapping my hands, it’s because this is the level of perfect storytelling so many paranormal stories strive for and don’t reach. You’ll have to read it for yourself to see, but Remy and Asher are two of my favorite couples in any 2012 book.

I’m thrilled to have discovered Corrine’s writing and I’m looking forward to reading her contemporary story, If I Lie because of the tightness in plot, the deep level of characters and the fantastic world-building she displayed in Touched. I’m also thrilled that this is a series, because yes, I’m rather desperate for book 2 in the Sense Thieves series.
