Tiger Moon: Tracking the Great Cats in Nepal

Rate this book
Tiger Moon is the powerful, poetic story of the Sunquists' two years studying tigers in Nepal—traveling by elephant, avoiding a rhino attack, and learning to recognize individual tigers by roar. A new afterword tells the story of promising efforts to reconnect fractured Nepalese tiger habitats.

This is a brilliant book and I enjoyed every page. Wealth of knowledge on the Terai ecosystem and tigers, beautiful photography and wonderfully written descriptions of life in Chitwan National Park. Their work is admirable and important and I look forward to reading more

Interesting insight on early tiger research in the Royal Chitwan Natioal Park in Nepal, from the 70s and 80s. Nice addition at the end that wraps up loose ends and gives information on new developments in conservation and establishment of animal migration corridors in Nepal/India. This book gives you a healthy respect for the plight of the tiger and the human/animal conflicts in this region. I would read this again!!

Paints a broad overview of the Terai landscape and ecology, including local culture. Not as personal as Rabinowitz nor as comprehensive though, since it is quite brief. I imagine the situation has evolved quite a bit since those days. Am looking forward to checking it out for myself!

I was a bit disappointed with this one. I was hoping for more emphasis of the tracking and collaring of the tigers captured than was expressed within this book.
