No one would suspect Holly of making Nick's life hell. She is a beautiful, brilliant, newly-married lawyer. Only Nick knows she is capable of such despicable acts - for Holly will never give up until Nick is hers alone. And Holly always gets what she wants.
Born and raised in London, loved reading but deeply lazy about writing at school, preferring drama. A brief acting career, then moved into the production side at the BBC's radio drama department - later at London's Capital Radio, by which time the writing "switch" had been flicked on. Spent as much time as possible travelling in the US, working and writing. First novel, IN LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP published in 1986 after five years of writing. Wrote sagas with big dramatic finishes in the early days, and then, as the body count rose, made the move into psychological suspense and thrillers. Last book LAST RUN soon out in trade paperback, and the latest (and 20th) -RALPH'S CHILDREN - out soon in hardcover. Living in London with husband Jonathan, and dog Poppy.
Similar to hand that rocks the cradle. There has always been something just a little off with Holly, her mother worships her but her father is just not quite sure but it is easier to blame the boy next door than to accept that their daughter has a problem. When Nick leaves for college Holly follows him and he has to move several times but then several years pass and he believes that he is safe but for how long?
What a humdinger of a tale and Hilary Norman understands the intricacies and detail of mental illness, mental unbalance and the impact on others. Others being normal people just trying to get on with life. There are no superheroes in this. No big time fixes. It is about normal people and how hellish their life can become and how they struggle painfully to hold it together.
I seldom read female authors (Unless they have written under masculine pseudonyms!!) and less often novels of this genre. BUT I enjoyed this book, enough twists and suspense to retain your attention. Holly is obsessed with Nick and will go to all extremes to regain his attention.
3.5 … not my sort of book, I found it creepy but at the same time, I must admit it was a page-turner with many surprising twists. Reminded me in a way of Gone Girl.
