I've read the more recent (thus updated) version of this book which contains more than 1000 pages in it.
Although with 4-digit thickness, the book is close to what you'll call a pocket size. Perhaps if it's to be converted into an A4 size, it'll only be half of its current measurement (provided that the font size and illustrations' dimensions be kept as they are, since they're somewhat microscopic).
I can't find any topics of car technology that isn't covered. Name it and it's inside, to the most advanced development to date. Engines, suspension, electronics and even aerodynamics, it's all here. And that's where the problem lies. Explanations are brief, they're nothing more than a student's summary notes. The theories are too shallow for an engineer while the practice.. isn't there, that's why handbook is a misnomer, nothing hands-on here.
And contrary to other review, I found the maths irrelevant and lack usefulness, and not complicated to begin with.
This is a helpful book for people who want to learn more about vehicles and the physics involved. This is not for people without advanced math skills (which i didnt have) and must also realize that all the measurements are in the metric system. Even without the skills, this book is still extremely usefull for learning about engines and the technology that is involved in cars themselves. This covers many new and older inventions made for cars. It also covers oils, diesels, and fuel ratings. I enjoyed the bearings chapter showing load ratings and other aspects that are slightly more advanced than my math skills are currently, but will be there soon. Great book for people looking to go into the automotive industry as a mechanical engineer.
Don't believe the "first published 1994", mine is the 1st English - 18th German edition, translated 1978. Posted here because it is the closest edition date I could find.
Fascinating in its breadth, halfway between a condensed Machineries Handbook and how every aspect of cars work. It has everything from handy formulas for areas of plain figures, through limits and fits to how spark plugs are designed, electric cars controlled (in 1978!), how self levelling suspension works - you name it. The Bosch Automotive Handbook is a classic of the genre. The only thing that stops it being a good read (or more correctly fun to dip into) is the small format. Don't start this book without good eyesight or strong glasses.

És d’aquells llibres petits, molt manejables, amb pàgines de paper fi i lletra petita, curulles de fórmules, gràfics, taules, dades i explicacions molt útils.
Un compendi de saviesa. Matemàtiques, física i química, materials i màquines, amb una dedicació extensa a totes les parts dels automòbils.
