Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
It feels like a collection of bedtime stories which feels okay because your toddler is already half-dozed off. The writing is decent but it’s not the best. I think if these were individual books or novellas they would have worked better. Each story tends to get repetitive all the time, I think it needed more wiggle room and space to adjust the setting and characters. She also tells a lot of time instead of showing which is a drawback in literature and I understand why, hence, not a big fan of it. I liked the story, "I Dare You To!" It tells us about rule-breaking and it’s affects on innocent people and I really liked it but again it needed more space to develop and more time. 2.5✨️
I enjoy reading Enid Blyton's books, I've read a few in my life and I've liked them all. This is the first time I've read one as an adult though. I do like the way she writes and the words she chooses makes it fun and easy for children to read or follow as their parent reads to them.
This is a wonderful children's storybook. I admire Enid Blyton's writing style, as she embedes a moral lesson into each of her stories in this book.Even though I'm an adult reader, I didn't feel bored at all while reading this book.I truly enjoyed it.
The Cat with A Feathery Tail".
The person in charge is giving out wishing wands and when he walks parst two little pixies house they are down the well so the person in charge says: I told everyone which time I would come and give them their wands and they're not here so they won't get their wishing wands.
I adored this story when I was a kid; all the elements that kids love in stories were present, including... cookies? Really addictive and vividly illustrated. Great read for young children.
My mum gave me this book when I was nine or so. So reading it brings back fond memories of my childhood. I've always loved fairy tales, even now at the age of 16.
