The third volume of the Freaky Jules series. Julia Dundee (Freaky Jules) is recruited by her home spirit, a deceased police officer, to retrieve the spirit of his former partner, Sarge, an aging German Shepherd who will soon pass away. The only problem are the hellhounds that are bent on corrupting or destroying the retired canine hero.
Hellhounds by Tom Upton is book 3 of the Freaky Jules series. I love this series. In this book, the ghost cop living in Jules home wants Jules to go and retrieve the canine cop that was the ghost's partner when he was alive. The dog is old, dying and his spirit may be attacked my hellhounds if not retrieved. So Jules and her friend is to try to get the spirit without getting attacked by hellhounds. A fun, suspense filled, and humorous ride!
Jules Dundee is your typical 17 year old. She's apathetic, her teachers and her parents don't understand her, she's socially awkward, and she spends most of her days doing "nothing". Of course, she can read minds, which makes her, in her own words, "a freak", she has some telekinetic abilities, and oh, yeah, she can see spirits! Which is how this, the third installment in the Freaky Jules series, starts out. Jerry, the ghost that inhabits her house needs a favor. A K-9 cop in life before his untimely death, Jerry learns that his K-9 partner, Sarge, is near death. And Sarge, a hero dog in life, is going to need some protecting as a new spirit as the forces of evil will be out to destroy him. Jules reluctantly agrees to help Jerry out, even after she finds out she needs to protect Sarge from a pack of Hellhounds, one of the few things that has managed to scare her in the past! This is a pretty quick read, as it's only Novella length, but it's well worth checking out. The young adult group will be able to identify with Jules fairly easily, including trying to balance out her paranormal activities with therapy, while not giving away to her parents just how much trouble she's gotten herself into. The story line is easy to follow and is quick paced. I'm actually interested in continuing on in this series, as this tale leads into "The Crying Witch".
The time has come for Jules to keep her promise to Jerry and fetch his dieing canine partner. But nothing can be easy; the hellhound that attacked her before is bringing friends to stop her. And Jack is acting strange, straining what little relationship they have. A nice continuation of the Freaky Jules series.
I really enjoyed this story. It is the third Freaky Jules story I've read. There are editing problems, but I've come to expect that from books like this. Its actually not as bad as some others that I've read. The story, though, is interesting. The characters are fun, the situations are entertaining, and I feel that they really portray teenagers well (aside from the paranormal aspect). I was pleasantly surprised with the story, and with the series in general. I ended up getting them for free on Amazon, but after reading them, I've become more interested in Tom Upton's work and can say that his works ARE worth paying for. I can't wait to see what happens next. The books are easy to read, hard to put down.
What a great imagination this author has. Poor Jules gets caught up in another terror filled episode. I just wish the author would edit out all the grammatical errors and misspellings. They are getting annoying.
