The subtitle is 'New Stories for Girls', but outside of some of Streatfeild's introductory remarks to the pieces, I never really felt conscious of the book being any more suitable for girls than for boys. It is a good mix of stuff. Most of the authors I had never heard of before, but if I was in the mood I might be inclined to take up some of Streatfeild's recommendations and go and hunt out some of their other books. It was particularly interesting reading about Harriet Clisby.
