Many people have found The People's Bible to be the most reliable Bible commentary series published. It's the laypeople's Bible down to earth, clearly written, easy to read and understand, filled with practical and contemporary applications. Each volume includes that book's complete text from the NIV Bible. The Christ-centered commentaries following the Scripture sections contain explanations of the text, historical background, maps, illustrations, and archaeological information. The People's Bible commentaries are great for personal or group study.
Exodus is the second book written by God's great leader Moses. The book's title means 'road out.' Exodus records the departure of God's people from their slavery in Egypt and the beginning of their journey to the Promised Land. In the third month of that journey, Moses and the people came to Mount Sinai, where God gave them his law.
In this book God outlined how he saved mankind through a mediator. All He asks is his commands be followed and those that fall short through sin to ask for forgiveness. The sin would be punished, yet the sinner saved. When His people repent, they are blessed, and that blessing led to Him to dwelling in the tabernacle or in today's terms a temple. The tabernacle or temple was constructed from freewill giving, or acknowledgment that God's love is returned to him by giving our heart. (This is my second reading of this book.)
As Genesis ends, we learn that God's chosen people or faithful are enslaved in Egypt. As his faithful cry out to be taken away from their slavery, He sends Moses to lead them out of captivity. This parallels God in human form, Christ, who led us out of our sinful nature by paying the price for us. The book ends with the faithful building a place for God to dwell with them here on earth. It was built on an outpouring of thanksgiving. (This is my third reading of this book.)
