Luke wrote Acts as a continuation of his gospel. In this book Luke recorded the growth of the early church after Jesus ascended to heaven. The first part of the book tells of the growth of the church in and around Jerusalem. Luke then goes on to write about the apostle Paul's conversion and the spread of the gospel throughout the Roman world.
This book outlines the defense of the apostles' faith through the persecution within the first few years after the crucifixion. The same rejection of Christ given in the first century is true today. Paul's conversion and manner in which he defends the faith are to be admired.
It is interesting to note that as Paul appeals to Caesar there was a separation of church and state as the Roman government didn't want to meddle into the affairs of the interpretation of the Sanhedrin on the Resurrection. This was a religious principle in the United States until recently. History truly repeats itself in different forms. (2nd Reading)
