Dr Barbara Fredrickson is Kenan Distinguished Professor of Psychology and principal investigator of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a leading scholar within social psychology, affective science, and positive psychology.
I've always been kind of sceptical about Positive Thinking, most of it seems to boil down to "put on pink shades and the world will look more rosy". Yeah, well, but that doesn't make real problems go away. Actually, those tend to reappear with a vengeance if you ignore them. So I'm discovering "real", science based Positive Psychology only now and this is a very good book to start or continue with, both scientific background information and applications for daily life included. The Broaden and Build Theory actually makes sense to me and I really think I've learned a few things about creating upward spirals and avoiding downward ones.
I picked up Positively by Barbara Fredrickson because of its focus on the science of positivity and its impact on well-being. The book offers fascinating insights into how small shifts in mindset can create lasting emotional and psychological benefits. I appreciated the research-backed approach, though some parts felt a bit repetitive. Still, it’s a great read for anyone looking to cultivate a more positive and fulfilling life!
Barbara Fredrickson's Broaden & Build Theory was the answer I was looking for when I started my masters in positive psychology! Her realistic view on positivity and the fact that we can take action to notice more of it in life is inspiring. There are some excellent journaling prompts included to use to reset your mindset to see more of the good in life.
