With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

I was bored with writing my own novel and started hunting around on my reader to find something I hadn't read yet and found this. I thought it was going to be just another sleepy romance novel (I've hit a few of those in my day) and I was really surprised that it wasn't. I read the entire book in less than a day.

Ryan Devaney is the oldest brother of three who was abandoned by his parents when he was nine. He and the two that were abandoned with him had come home from school one day and his parents had cleaned out the apartment and taken the twin kids with them. Ryan, now 32, had gotten into some trouble as a kid and living in the foster system when this priest came to his rescue, got him back on track and is still is friend. Ryan had emotional issues. He didn't trust anybody. He was guarded and even a little scared at times. He was a highly successful pub owner, though.

Then along comes Maggie O'Brien. She'd had a flat tire and come into his pub looking for help. She ended up getting a ride home from him and that's when the story really takes off. As their relationship develops, she wants him to find his siblings and he doesn't want to for various reasons. In the meantime, she's got this big family that really gets along well and loves each other and look out for each other. An "ideal" family. And they're including Ryan.

Of course, there are misunderstandings, men speaking with forked tongues, women shedding tears and fighting back or leaving, ups and downs with the whole story but it was so good.

I'd never read anything by Sherryl Woods and I was missing out. I've seen her novels in the stores and have never even picked one up to read the back cover. Now, I'm going to read the next installment of this series.

WOO HOO!

An ok book but I just wish that Sherryl Woods would think up different names in her books/series as it gets very confusing!

Resenha:

Emocionante!!! Sim, amo um mocinho traumatizado. Não adianta fugir, eles me perseguem.

WOW, what fantastic dynamics between characters. The plot is so riveting that you do not want to put it down. This is one of her older series but I highly recommend you find the series at your local library, second hand store or online site to complete the collection to read as I did you will not be sorry.

You can tell it's written in the early 2000's. Pay phones!. Anyway, Ryan was cool, loved Rory better. He played a secondary character but I thought he was hilarious. Easy listening audio book.

I remember reading this book on my eighteens, and I loved it. I read it again now on my 30s and I have the same feeling. Okay, the style actually changed, I feel it fast and short but yes thats the nostalgia with romance books back then.
Ryan and maggie were part of old school books to me. Grumpy pushy guy meets hurricane woman and then the rest is inevitable. She's a kickass heroine honestly. Bring that character!

Anyways, if you want a book with a romance but above all a story about family reconnecting and learning to love this is the short of book to do it.
Don't expect an over explicit book about sex and love because definitely this book is more about a man meeting an - hurricane- of woman, then starting to search for his bio family and his past and starting to evolve to his best dad form haha.

all these siblings are cute ♥

There was just something about this story that was classic. I really liked the sad, orphan story that turns into found family and triumph. I can say that at times I was a bit bored, but besides that, the storyline was phenomenal and the characters come to life like nothing else. I listened to the audiobook version, and the Irish accents made the whole thing ten times better. I highly recommend listening to it. The only problem in the story that I found was just that sometimes I had to roll my eyes at the war Ryan acted. But being that I’ve never been abandoned and alone, I can’t judge him for the way he refused to trust and commit to anyone. It was a bit annoying though- waiting, and waiting, and waiting- for them to get together. Once they did, though, it was magical. 4 stars!!

I read this series a few years ago before I started posting reviews and really enjoyed it then. The second time round starting this series was no acception.

I love Ryan and Maggie as characters. Maggie was determined to help ryan and her pushy nature was just what he needed. Ryan had a lot to overcome and still does but maggie really helped him to see that his family experiences don't have to define him and her pushy nature really made Ryan startled but he trusted in her and it was grate to see how she was able to make him slowly start to see the life he could have. I'm looking forward to rereading the rest of the brother's stories. Next we move onto Sean the second oldest.

The Devaney Brothers were separated from each other when Ryan, the oldest, was nine years old. Ryan has grown a hard shell and successfully kept himself free from attachments to any woman until a redhead with a flat tire blows into his pub before Thanksgiving. She wages a successful campaign, with the help of her loud and crazy family, to get him to open up his heart and mind to love. He realizes that Maggie is right and that part of his return to life and love will be to find his brothers.

Sweet frost in a series about five brothers who were abandoned as children split up into the foster care system. Ryan to oldest blames himself for “loosing” his brothers but he was only eight. It takes a beautiful feisty redhead to prove that he can move past his heartache and search fir his family.

RYAN'S PLACE - DEVANEY'S #1 - (Ryan and Maggie)

FROM LONER TO LOVER...

Abandoned by his parents and separated from his brothers, Ryan Devaney never let anyone get too close. Then spunky Maggie O'Brien marched into his Irish pub and declared war on the icy fortress around his heart. Ryan claimed he didn't believe in love, but Maggie's bright smile and tender touch soon had him reconsidering. The beautiful redhead warmed his frozen spirit and awakened forgotten dreams--like the desire to search for his long-lost brothers. But did he dare accept her challenge to believe there was a place for him in happily-ever-after?

I thought this was a disappointing book from Sherryl Woods. I probably should have read the entire series - maybe it would have all made more sense. All I can say is that she has definitely improved as an author since she wrote this book
