Fate Has it In For Grace, Can She Survive What Awaits Her? As the only daughter of a successful businesswoman, Grace grew up with nothing but the best. Sheltered by her single mother and educated in an exclusive private school in Detroit, Grace was not ready for the harsh realities of an unforgiving world. Grace's naiveté coupled with her desire to experience life on her own terms leaders her down a path of emotional devastation and physical abuse. Through a chance encounter Grace meets Mike, a successful design artist who introduces her to a relationship very different from her usual one-night-stands and affairs with married men. Things take a turn for the worse however when Grace's roommate walks in on her and her personal trainer in their apartment. This betrayal tears apart Mike and Grace's romance and shatters the trust and friendship between Grace and Trina. In the midst of torn relationships and life-shattering losses, Grace is left with no one to turn to except God she thought had long since abandoned her.

Can I start this review off by saying that this book has been in my home library for a few years now and I remember when I first got it, starting it but never finishing it. Everything happens for a reason in a certain season...and this is truly the season in my life where I felt lead to pick up this book again and read in its entirety. This book is such an incredible gem! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat! This is the author's first novel that she wrote at the age of 22 and I truly felt that she was born to write! Her writing style was impeccable and the characters were just amazing. The story line took me through all kinds of feelings. I laughed, I cried (a lot) and I learned. This book just wasn't a novel but a true testimony of the power of prayer, patience, love, life and friendship. It ministered to me tremendously and I highly recommend this book to everyone. This author has won a spot as my favorite author from just this book alone! I was halfway through this book when I decided I had to purchase all of her other books. Just an amazing couple of days being immersed in this book! Fantastic book!
I absolutely loved this novel. I fell in love with the characters because they were so realistic. One character I just wanted to ring her neck, but she was definitely a type I have expereinced in real life. THe vocabulary was rich as well. i found myself reading with a dictionary. I recommend all three of her books. I am hoping she will come out with more in the future.
"Saving Grace" was a surprisingly good read (I found it on the clearance shelf.). Grace is bearing fruit of someone who seek to please others and who is doing things using her own strength. Her happiness is short term and typically when she does get what she thought she wanted she was not satisfied. Grace's long time best friend, Trina makes mistakes that Grace has supported her through or rescued her from. However, Trina is very judgemental and critical of Grace, especially after she begin attending church. She withholds her friendship whenever she disapproves of Grace behavior. Grace begin dating Michael after a couple failed relationships including a married man. Her first impression of Michael is that he is a Mama's boy and she doesn't want to waste her time on him. Michael loves God. He holds weekly Bible Study in his loft. He comes from a tough beginnings, but is now a successful Design Artist who owns his own business. From the description in the book he is also very easy on the eye. But he is not perfect. Grace initially is not sure if she believes in God, eventually will seek Him when she is feeling lost.
Grace Naybor decides to uproot her life in Detroit to go live with her best friend Trina, who moves to Memphis to be with her boyfriend, Darius. Trina and Darius's relationship does even last a quarter of the way into the story, but Grace goes through a period where she has a brief make-out session with her trainer Don, who is married. Nothing actually develops between them, as Mike enters the picture. The climate of the story comes in the form of a misunderstanding as Trina thinks that Grace is having and affair with Don, and so she tells Mike, which leads to more drama. At the same time, Grace is dealing with the sudden loss of her mother and a new-found relationship with her father. DRAMA!!! LOL. I didn't like most of the characters in this story. I thought they were too self-righteous and too self-absorbed, but the story weaves itself together in the end where Grace and Mike find each other.
I enjoyed this book. I think it was a bit long and wordy in places and could have been tightened up, but for a first novel published when the author was only 22, I think overall it's outstanding. I'm looking forward to reading more books written by Ms Phillips and I am hopeful that her writing style will get better and better. The story itself was good, but it did take until past the middle of the book for the plot to get to the point where you couldn't put the book down. I do recommend this book!
My absolute favorite book. It's Christian fiction that doesn't read all cheesy and unrealistic. It's real life and the conversations flow naturally. I love the growth and development of the characters and the ease of the developing relationship. It wasn't rushed. I felt the pain and heartache of the character. Man, I actually cried! Amazing author. You HAVE to read Fall From Grace afterwards.
I liked Grace and identified with what it was like listening to christians before becoming one myself. However I didn't understand how Micheal could be in a relationship with an unbeliever when he obviously knew better, he even proposed. All in all it's a good story.
I have to say i just LIKED this book. I'm not in love with it but i did enjoy reading it. The problem I had with this book was the joke about Jesus (either in this book or the sequel) which was entirely disrespectful and awful. Other than that i recommened you pick it up for a weekend trip away from home or just having the house to yourself for awhile.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the part where she actually gave her life to Christ was a bit rushed, but overall I enjoyed the content and how it was written.
