Roseline Enescue didn't ask to become an Immortal, to have all of the guests at her wedding slaughtered, or be forced into marriage with a man whose lust for blood would one day ignite the vampire legend. Willing to risk everything for a chance at a normal life, Roseline escapes to America. Terrified her husband Vladimir will find her, Roseline enrolls as a senior in Chicago's elite Rosewood Prep school. Mingling with humans is the last place he would look for her. But her transition into the human world isn't easy. Mortal men flock after her while cutthroat girls plot her demise. Yet Roseline remains relatively unfazed by the petty hysteria until she falters into the arms of Gabriel Marston, reluctant MVP quarterback, unwilling ladies man, and sensitive artist in hiding. Troubled by the bond that pulls her towards the mortal boy, Roseline tries to ignore him, but Gabriel is persistent. As their lives entwine, Roseline begins to realize that Gabriel is much more than he appears. His ability to toss a football the entire length of the field and grind concrete into dust pales in comparison to the glowing blue cross tattoo that mysteriously appears on his forearms. Despite the forbidden bond between them, Roseline can't help wondering what Gabriel is: He's not human. He's not Immortal. So just what is he?

Why did I pick up this random book? It was part of the Kindle Lending Library thing. And I needed to use up this month’s library use. And I apparently I didn’t do much research. I really don’t get how the average rating is 4.10 stars.

The book is about a vampire Immortal who is married to Dracula Vladmir. So, somehow Roseline escapes and moves to a town. She instantly gets lots of friends and finds a boy. And then its Tru Lv 4ever and stuff (that’s by fifty percent mind you). They fight some and guys and then it’s over. The end.

This book was average in the sense that it was the average old bad vampire book.

Characters:
Roseline was pretty, smart, kind, proper, and all around horrible. I hate Mary Sues, which meant I should have hated her. But most of the time I was indifferent. I didn’t care about her or anyone else. Then she decided she was in lust love with Gabe (I’m sorry, that name was ruined by Percy Jackson), then I finally hated her. With a passion.

Gabriel was the sensitive football player who loves art and strolls in the park. From the moment he saw Roseline, he loved her. Not like, love. Like, Twilight Love. He was like super-duper, amazingly awesome /sarcasm

The secondary characters were unremarkable and I didn’t really care much about them.

Plot:
Plot:
Is this a vampire book or a teen drama? I’m pretty sure it’s just a teen drama with the main character is a vampire Immortal. I picked this up because I was bored it was about VAMPIRES. It’s not. It’s about true lust love.

I didn’t find anything different, shocking, or wonderful. It was either a mindless, thoughtless read or an infuriating, horrible read.

Writing:
Either it had horrible formatting or this author needs an editor. I’m hoping for the first.

A comma:
A punctuation mark ( , ) used to indicate a separation of ideas, or of elements within a sentence.

Commas save lives.
Commas save lives.

What I liked and disliked:
Liked:
•…. nothing O.O

Disliked:
•Plot
•Writing
•Characters
•The Romance
•The cliché mean girl
In conclusion:
This book was bad. Like kill me now bad.

ugh. i made it about 20% through this one and just had to stop. so many things just didn't work for me. a few:

1. editing. i can look past a few typos here and there but this was pretty rough.

2. the female protagonist made my teeth grate. she's supposedly a 300 year old vampire (close enough - in the book they are called Immortals) but she's about as bad ass as a wet dish rag.

so the thing about vampire (and vamp-like) books (and i read a lot of these). vampires (and the like) need to be bad ass. they can be vulnerable, sure. but they need to have at least one awesome trait. not just pretty. they need to be fast, or strong, or be able to fly, or can read minds, or SOMETHING.

no one wants to read a story about a mousy wet dish rag vampire.

a few more things. she's supposedly 300 years old but she acts like she's about 15. yes, she has some antiquated speech patterns but her though processes are juvenile.

3. maybe this should go under editing but i'll say it separately. every other paragraph should not end in an exclamation point. it makes the voice sound silly and childish! see what i mean?

i will say the prologue was great. it sucked me right in and then... what followed was just a big fat no.

alas, this is not the book for me.

I made it 30% of the way through this shitshow and actually returned it and got my 99 cents back. That is the first time I've ever done that. I'm going to ignore the stupid plot (seriously? A 300 year immortal with an unending bank account decides to sleep on a stained second-hand mattress and go to high school?) and get right to why this should never have been published, self or otherwise.

American's = possessive--as in "This is the American's house."
Americans = plural--as in "I don't understand you Americans."

Your = possessive--as in "Here's your dress back."
You're = you are--as in "You're beautiful."

NO ONE should have to educate an author on this. It's a fifth grade mastery of the English language. Don't get it? Don't publish.

Oh for crying out loud!!

After weeks of crawling through this book, like a dying man crawls through the desert, I have finally finished.
WHY DID I EVER BOTHER?

It. Just. GRRRRRRRRRr
No. Please, no.

I mean, I've been neglecting my homework so I can read tons of books/manga this weekend. Well, not neglecting... And I've read a lot, and all of it was good. Except this damn book :L

Seriously, it's the whole instantaneous love thing. And did I mention the vampires? And the vampire hunter?

Do yourself a favour...

True the grammar was bad and there was many mistakes the story's plot was intricately woven together. Frankly many of the new vampire novels focus off of the true original myth of vampires. Many do not understand that vampires can actually represent troubles of plagues and disease in the olden days.
The thing that is extremely loving about this novel is not only the romance, action, adventure, and very sharp twists, is the fact that no one ever truly views the good and the bad. In the recent TV-series "Vampire Diaries" it shows a new side to the "monsters" that go bump in the night. This novel does just that. This author has a very bright future ahead of her if she will use a computer and grammar check the mistakes, then read through it, she will find that writing is part of the soul. She has put much work into this novel and I love it.
Just because everyone thinks that it was a "drag" doesn't mean that the people who love the novel, or wrote it, need to be criticized. This is by far my new favorite novel so far, and I hope to read more.

I do not even know why i lasted that long. The main character is even more boring than watching paint dry. She acted like a whiny annoying 15 year old when she`s supposed to be a 300-year or so, vampire. I ended up almost forgetting that she was in fact, a vampire... Because honestly, she just...did not act like it, or show it in any way. The love interest(s)? was uinteresting, a bit pushy though?

I. am. out.

while I did find some of the interaction between the characters a tad juvenile... I would say that is because I am way past the juvenile stage of life. contrary to what another reader said, Rosaline definitely did not immediately have a lot of friends, in fact I understood it to be quite the opposite. she was an outsider, along with Sadie. Yeah...the guys were drooling over her...but that was hormones. the girls all actually hated her because of Gabriel's obvious interest. and as for the immediate romance between Rose and Gabriel...it wasn't something the author just added. it was meant to be inexplicable. even Rose and Gabriel were at a loss to understand it.
it was obvious to me that the Immortals was a mystery to be revealed later because its the very thing Rose is running from.
I'm not saying its the best book I've ever read, but it was a good read and left me wanting to read more. I found it a refreshing diversion from vampires who sparkle and live on animal blood and vampires who attend vampire school and are called on to battle the forces of evil as literal teenagers. i loved the fact that for a YA book, there was more torture and blood and gore than usual. currently completely immersed in the sequel, I, for one, enjoyed this book and look forward to discovering the rest of Rosaline and Gabriel's story!

So I'm supposed to believe than an immortal who has had the shit beaten out of her by her immortal husband for over 350 years escapes by running to the nearest town and hopping on a train?

And then enrolls in high school?

That's her grand plan?

Don't even get me started on how she skips class because she already knows everything she needs to know. You can't possibly ask me to believe that a person who regularly was beaten into unconsciousness was given an education, and even if you can, you better give me a good goddamn explanation. Where is her money coming from? What are the rules of her immortal life? Why doesn't she have any emotional trauma? There is no depth.

Gave up at 17%.

I wanted more in this book .That ending was one of the worst cliffhangers.
Roseline is the forcefully turned wife of a sadistic vampire who controls her life. He murdered Roseline's husband, parents and all the guests at her wedding, captured and prisoned her sister for eternity, and took Roseline away with him, hiding her in a vintage castle simply to vent out his anger on her whenever he felt like it.
Couple goals anyone?
To escape this insanity and to start over , she runs away to America( Childish Gambino's 'This is America' playing in my head right now). Enrolls in a high school and somehow this tragic paranormal story turns into a sweet high school contemporary romance, and boy! I know it sounds sort of out of hand , but I enjoyed it! Two of my favorite genres mixed together into one?!
Yes please!!!
I adore practically every aspect of this book, from the lovable, deep and realistic characters, that totally original environment created by the author, that gripping plot and engaging narration, this book literally had it all. And the other reason I liked it so much was because I didn't have any expectations and was left sooo pleased and satisfied.
I liked this one.

Roseline Enescue has spent most of her immortal existence wishing she could escape the cruelty and violence of her husband, the infamous Vladimir Enescue. When the opportunity presents, Roseline escapes and flees to America, where she tries to establish a semblance of a normal life by enrolling in High school.
Rose, as her new friends know her, falls in love with Gabriel Marston and soon discovers that, no matter how much she may try and no matter how far she may run, the past has a way of catching up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The writing is unique and particularly gripping, written as it is in third person present tense. There is a lovely flow and intensity to the author’s story-telling, although my copy was an Audible version, so I’m unable to comment on grammar. Some of the scenes, most notably the action scenes, were a little stiff and perhaps just a little too detailed for the pace, but they were still effective.

The focus of the story is definitely the two characters, Rose and Gabriel, and any other storylines take a back-seat to this budding romance. There is such chemistry between the two main characters that one can overlook the cliched peripheral characters. The back story and premise leaves me intrigued to follow the rest of Rose’s story.

Well I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at this book. I’m really glad I didn’t read the reviews before picking it up. I think the author must have revised and edited the book since some of the reviews on goodreads indicate issues with this. From my perspective there are very few errors (certainly none that detracted from the book). Anyway I have to say this was a refreshing take on the vampire genre. It was very original and you are left wondering what is going to happen and what exactly is Rose and of course Gabriel. They are not human, but what are they? I will leave that to you.

Let me start with the prologue – OMG what the frig? I mean holy crap that was some intro. Certainly not a typical YA book but well worth the read. The beginning of the book was a bit slow after the riveting intro, but it picks up fairly quickly and turns into a real page turner that sucks you in and doesn’t let go. The story line is a little more gory than most YA reads.

Rose is awesome. She is real and flawed (which I like in a MC) you instantly feel empathy for her and you want to see her succeed and definitely want to see her get away from...oops don’t want to give anything away so I will say...that thing that holds her back...lol. My only complaint with Rose is that sometimes she comes off as a bit young (considering her immortal age not her appearance of age). Her relationship with Gabriel is endearing and heartfelt and you just want to keep reading to find out if it works out...sigh! I won’t tell you what happens.

Overall I loved the book. It was different and exciting and easy to read. It sucks you in and keeps you there until the very last page. I look forward to the next book. I hope they explore more about Rose’s past and the legends that led up to her being what she is.

4 stars for me.

Issues with this book I could not resolve:

1. Why would a 330+ year old woman WANT to go to HIGH SCHOOL of all places after escaping from her abusive husband? It's high school. It's hell. Why escape one hell to go to a different hell?? 330 years old, an "impeccable education" and no fricking common sense, but then again, Roseline is a wet blanket of a character with a poor little rich girl complex.

2. She's hot. Really hot. Super hot. OMG frickin hot. Insta-boner hot. All the guys in the school want to jump her. Ringing Mary Sue bells here?

3. Insta-love. Gabriel touches her, and they both burn. One, it's insta-love and nauseating as hell, and two, they probably have some hyperstrain of chlamydia.

4. She's not just hot, she's rich. But . . . she pays a year's rent of a two story bungalow that has a bare mattress and cigarette stains on the carpets. Ew. And there are designer clothes on the floor as she doesn't wear the same thing twice because she hates ironing. So hire a maid.

5. When shit gets a little hard, she runs away, goes to the nearest sleeze-bucket no-tell motel and shacks up for three weeks.

6. Her friends are instantly able to buy plane tickets for next day travel, complete with tourist visas, to Romania. Kinda unlikely for under 18-year olds to travel so freely.

7. People from Romania have American accents and know American slang. Like, yeah totally. Oh, and they're all super rich.

8. Exclamation points (!!) make unnecessary emphases for no particular reason. Cherry red Ferrari!

This makes Twilight look like Shakespeare.

bad grammar seriously lets it down...

This could be a really, really good book. Really good. The plot is something of a twist on the vampire craze that's still going on, the characters are likeable, and by the last few chapters I was honestly gripped.

However, the silly typos and grammatical errors were a huge disappointment! The book is written in the present tense, which is ok, but at times it reverted back to past tense, possibly accidentally, which I found confusing. Commas in the wrong place and plurals where they didn't need to be, along with a few little typo style spelling mistakes added to the general confusion, and on several occasions I found myself having to read a sentence over, to figure out where the author had gone wrong, before I could understand what was meant to have been said. By this time I was so desperate to know what was going to happen that I stuck with it, however I can imagine many people just give up and stop reading.

I wish I could rate it higher, because I really did like this book, and I do recommend you give it a try. But only if you can stand to let the grammar slide!

The story is umm... okay I guess; where we see a immortal vampire bride to Count Dracula who has been confined into castle of Dracula in Romania. Not much remarkable. She wants to escape but can not incur the wrath of Dracula and his brother on all the people in her village.

The Starting was really fun to read and I liked the way Rosaline hoodwinks Dracula and we get to know about her past. 1.5 stars for first half. 0.5 for the second and boring half.

She manages to escape to USA and then meet a guy of her dreams who is "The One" for her. They fall in love, she is found out and has to return to Romania before Dracula arrives to USA and kills everyone. She and her lover, along with a help try to fight the Dracula and his brother.

A freebie on iBooks. Recommended to Vampire or Paranormal lovers...

Some parts of the story are questionable and the characters' developments and motives were unclear at times, but an exciting read nonetheless. I look forward to finding out what happens next in part two of the trilogy.

There were grammar mistakes throughout the Kindle edition, so I hope they get corrected in the future.

The writing is stronger than some of the reviews would have you believe. But the story? Just no. So many plot holes, so many boring tangents (woo hoo state football championship...), and a heroine with no flaws except for what I suspect is a weird gland disorder. Seriously, a lot of attention is paid to her secreting hormones, sweat, pheromones etc.

Don't bother with this one.

The starting is pretty full on but my god does the book keep you on your toes. I loved it so much! But hey, guess how it ends? CLIFFHANGER! Rose loses her husband (thank god), her best friend/lover (kinda tragic, but hey I wasn't rooting for the guy anyway), and her soul mate (maybe, THATS THE STUPID CLIFFHANGER). What more could you ask for?

I gave this a 5star review because it had me turning pages faster than I have ever read before. This book is a book where you get to the end and you are torn on wanting to finish it or letting it sit there and finishing it some other day. Well my curiosity got the best of me and finished it. I'm definitely hooked and going to be reading the rest of the series.

Roseline Enescue is just a 17-year-olg girl in Romania in 1689, when her father orders her to marry the wealthy Vladimir Enescue, brother to the equally wealthy and equally sadistic Lucien Enescue. Lured in by their wealth her father can't deny giving Roseline's hand, but he comes to regret it as he, along with all guests at the wedding are killed by the two monsters of brothers. Not even her little sister, Adela, isn't spared by their homicidal rampage and Roseline, having seen everyone she loves murdered in front of her eyes, has no choice but to comply to Vladimir's wishes, but not before she is killed and turned into a vampire like them.

This actually is the opening scene of the book and it is fast and exciting, really urging you to bond with the heroine in her struggle to save her loved ones and herself, alas you already know, just like she does, that there's no chance of that.
Then over 300 years later, Roseline, sees a way out, a chance to escape and she seizes it, knowing that if she fails to get away, she will suffer Vladimir's wrath once again, because she has tried this before, but it has never worked. Still, she gives it her whole and eventually she finds herself in the United States, posing as a 17-year-old girl (because that's the age she looks), going to a somewhat exclusive school, trying to go undetected, never attracting attention to herself. During her time there, though, she is befriended by the eccentric Sadie and her brother William, knowing very well that with her being Immortal, her looks are by default mesmerizing to humans causing them to be attracted to her. Consequently, she doesn't go as undetected as she would like to, but she tries. She is buried in some kind of comforting routine till Gabriel, the school's star student and athlete and most sought-out boyfriend is smitten by her, and an exchange student from Romania, Nicolae, comes to stay with Sadie and William. Nicolae keeps staring at her and it's not long before he reveals to Rose that he knows who she is and what she is, and that he is there to check up on her. Rose doesn't know in what capacity, but she is afraid that Vladimir knows where she is and Gabriel chasing after her all the time doesn't help one bit.

Now, it sounds a little cliche or rather like something that's been described before, but the story finds ways to be original and refreshing. I really liked that the book started the way it did, because it was fast and it immediately drew you in and made your heart beat a little faster. It was told in a smart way in the sense that in the first chapter, you already know why Roseline was running, who and what she was and why it was instrumental that she get away, making you feel like you already knew her and really ready to become invested in the actual story to start in the following chapter. Actually, the majority of the book's most important characters was really introduced in the first chapter, although Sadie, William, Gabriel and Nicolae were introduced later on.

The characters were quite diverse without coming off as caricatures, which was really good. Even Sadie, with her continuously changing wardrobe and make-up going through punk, goth, bad girl and Christian phases didn't come across as fake, while all characters were not good or bad, black or white. There were shades of gray which is the way it seems to me in real life.
It is important that the characters seem real and plausible without being too saccharine or "perfect". Rose isn't perfect either. She has been through a lot, but she is not a little lamb, nor is she a hyena (as a vampire). She is a person with her faults and shortcomings, never, however giving up the attempt to become a better person. Gabriel isn't a jock or a perfect guy either. The characters get mad, yell, lose their patience, laugh, fall in love and act crazy just like they would in real life and that's the best aspect of the book.

The writing is not exactly factual, nor overly decorative. I think it's a nice balance between the two and it makes reading the book quite entertaining. I also liked the fact that even though there is an aspect of insta-love between Rose and Gabriel, it is not pursued in a rushed way and Roseline doesn't trip all over herself in order to avoid or chase the charming human boy. Throughout the chapters it feels like Rose really lives her life in a normal way not changing dramatically just because of Gabriel (although why she run away towards the end I'll never understand). Gabriel is more smitten than she appears to be and faster than her, but he is a teenage boy so hormones and their "bond" can quite explain that.
I have to admit that I didn't see a few twists around the end coming and it was a welcome surprise as for the most part of the book we didn't see or hear from Lucien and Vladimir again, letting us enjoy Rose's new life but also making us wonder what was going to happen.

On the other hand, there were some aspects of book that left me wanting a little.
For the most part we did get to see what Immortals were. They were more than humans. Stronger, faster, prettier and intellectually superior in certain ways as they lived history and did not just read about it.
I quite enjoyed the twist in the lore, where what we consider Vampires are just Immortals that have been addicted to the taste of blood. They don't need the blood to survive, they can live off human food, but they need blood to heal, as blood is a life giver, and if they consume it too much, it becomes like a drug clouding their judgment and affecting them physically and psychologically, turning them blood-thirsty and eventually sadistic monsters (like it happened with Lucien and Vladimir). Blood is like cocaine for vamps, then, but they do have a choice which is a nice difference from the usual lore that Vampires always feel the thirst.
However, I feel like it could have been explained a little more and in greater detail so the whole thing could have been made distinct and invested upon so that in the future books we could see how the whole addiction process happens and how easy it is for a vamp to go to "rehab". XD
I'd love to have seen that in relation to Rose, as I'm sure that Vladimir must have tried to get her addicted.

Another thing is that I felt that Nicolae's presence could have been explored more. In the beginning he comes across as a geeky, nerdy kid who had no sense of how life and people in America were and he recognized Roseline from Romania fearing her, but later on he is a hunter incognito and some of his actions don't sit right. At first it feels like he is afraid of Rose and he is determined not to bother her or come into contact with her, but a chapter later he stares at her intently even menacingly and warns her that he will be there if she decides to hurt anyone. So if he wanted to stay under the radar why come out to Roseline and if he was going to do that anyways, why act scared in the beginning? Maybe he wanted to draw his own conclusions about Rose and if she was evil, but it just felt awkward to me. I liked Nicolae's reactions to Sadie, though, and I think I will enjoy them if they are a couple in the next book. ;)

Then the last one is a stupid thing to notice really, but I couldn't help wondering. Roseline as an Immortal (Vampire) feels happier when it is cold, because her body temperature is higher than that of a human, yet when she touches Gabriel she feels his great body warmth and heat, which doesn't make sense if he is human or even if he is half-vampire. (Unless it was psychological, though it was mentioned a couple times) Then again there is some prophecy and some things left for the next book so I might have to wait for this to make sense!!! And, god, do I want to read the next! :)

To sum up, I think "Forbidden" was an entertaining read filled with excitement, mystery, (why yes) passion and enjoyable characters you felt for, causing it to be one of the books I'd read again, but it would rate even higher if some of the story's (evidently) distinct vampiric lore was explored and introduced more properly and extensively. Its lovable characters and plot make up for some inconsistencies and questions.

Anyone who enjoys books with vampires and romance will definitely enjoy this one.

P.S.: Thanks to the writer for letting me review the book.

I don't know why people are being so hard on this book. I mean there were a lot of grammatical errors...A LOT, but the story itself was really good. It put a different twist on the typical vampire myths, which was refreshing. I couldn't put it down, I just kept turning the pages wanting to know what was going to happen and I love books that do that to me. I will say that the beginning started off way too fast and I wish there was little more time given there, plus the fact that all the guys kept drooling over Roseline throughout the book started to annoy me.

However, the love story between Roseline and Gabriel was endearing and I can't wait to read what happens with them next. I just hope the second book has less grammatical errors because that is just ridiculous, isn't that what editors are for???

Amazing plot line, fabulous characters, outrageous plot twists.....but, the way Miles depicted all of that.....well, let’s just say my rating says it all. Honestly, it had all the main components of a chart-topping piece, except the main one- the writing style. Tbh, I don’t think I even remember what exactly happened in the end coz I read so fast thinking only one thing throughout ...... “ l have to finish this to get it off my conscience”

Roseline has endured over 300 years of her own personal hell, when she finally decides to break away from her violent vampire husband, or die trying.

I've done it again, haven't I... I've been seduced by a pretty cover, thousands of high ratings and a synopsis that promises more than- actually, scratch that. There is no story beyond the synopsis; that's a more honest way of putting it.

The book starts off well, a young, well-to-do girl is bartered in marriage by her socially ambitious parents. But her betrothed is none other than Vladimir Enescue, a vampire who slaughters the wedding party and turns Roseline to be his beautiful and long-suffering bride. (I think there was some mention of him being Vlad the Impaler, but you really don't have to worry about it, he's just the big bad in the background for most of the book)
Cut to 300+ years later and Roseline is finally escaping from her abusive husband. She escapes the Romanian castle with a little help from her best friend Fane, then gets on a train and a plane and is soon "living" a new life in America.
It goes downhill from there.

Ok, I'll start with the plot. Why? Just plain why?
Why on earth does a 300 year old vampire go to high school?
Come on, in Twilight it's because the younger the family start out the longer they can stay in one place, pretending to be human. In Vampire Academy, they are actually that young. In Vampire Diaries, it's to stalk a girl.
Reasons. Some better than others.
Roseline has absolutely no reason to go to high school. Sure, she was 17 when she was turned, but she could probably pass for a stunning 21, be an adult and have no one question it. Perhaps she could have gone because it was a major human experience that she missed - but she spends her entire time at school trying to be invisible, keeping her head down and stressing from any attention.

Even ignoring the inanity above, I did not get on with Roseline. She is not likeable. She's a whiney, selfish little madam. She is moaning because all the guys are drawn to her vampiric super-hotness, and it's just so plain tiring. Except for when she's internally miffed that she's not getting attention, when she is clearly vampire super-hot.
She spends so much time being beautiful-but-shallow; I find it very hard to believe she's spent three centuries being a down-trodden victim of domestic abuse.
Nor does the way she interacts with the boys concur with the way she has flashbacks to being a seductress. Seductress? Really?
Plus, is she really a vampire? Does she really have a desire for blood? Because the only time it seems to crop up is after the car crash. (Don't get excited, the car crash has little to do with the plot or any actual action; it is just a machination for Gabriel to realise that Rose isn't human)

The supporting cast limp along.
Sadie "the best friend" deserves a mention. She's like, totally alternative and troubled and dies her hair and everything. She stereotypically hates the cool kids. Except she sort of is one of them, is spoilt (and judgemental) enough to think that Roseline is weird for only having one car, plus the whole alternative look is merely a fashion statement, not a lifestyle.

Nicholae, the foreign exchange student from Roseline's home town, has a stilted role. He's just wedged in there as an exchange student, who's a little quiet and not pretty. That seems enough of a reason for Roseline and Sadie to treat him like shit.
Oh, but it turns out that he's actually a vampire hunter that had followed Roseline to make sure she didn't hurt any humans... oh for crying out loud - how come he could find her, when the big bad Vladimir with the deadly long reach couldn't? How come Nicholae, a young and untested hunter, was sent alone against Vladimir's wife?
Deep breath.
(...and how come Nicholae was actually really hot in the end, and was only making himself look unappealing at the high school. Answers on a postcard, please.)

Gabriel, the love interest, is a little better than the others. But just.
He's a poor little star quarterback, going out with the most popular girl at school.
But really, he just wants to paint; and his choice of girlfriend is decided by his step-father. Because, hey, that's what step-fathers are for - pimping out their teenage sons to their bosses' daughters.
But it turns out that Gabriel is more than he seems, he is more than human. Oh wait, it says that in the synopsis. Don't worry, you don't have to read the book to find out.

Just one more thought - four high school kids decided that they would follow their brand new friend to Romania, so they just got on a plane. Because that's how families and parents work.

Dull. Turned into a skim read. Won't be continuing the series.
But it is free to download from Amazon, so go see for yourselves.

3.5 stars

I started this book while I was waiting for an event to start. I took easily to the opening chapters. I chose the book because of the cover and paranormal blurb.

Characters 3.5/5
Amy's writing style is very easy and I was captivated within the first few pages. The characters need some development, but are rounded enough to appreciate them and fall in love with them in this book.

Roseline - I liked her instantly. I liked that she isn't the outcast but also doesn't want to be queen bee, even though she naturally draws attention. She is a well-balanced heroine, who is lovable and protective of her friends. I would enjoy finding out more about her past.

Sadie - I loved her spunk. She is the outcast who rebels against the popular but secretly wishes to be a part of it too. She is smart and witty. Without giving too much away, I was really happy that she opened her eyes and found something special at the end of the book - I really look forward to the development of this in the next book.

William - I adored him and his boyish charms. I liked his enthusiasm and easy nature. Part of me really wanted him to end up with Roseline, even though she belongs with Gabriel. I appreciated the fact that he is a great friend to Roseline, regardless of whether she is single or not.

Gabriel - I love this name! His instant infatuation/draw to Roseline is a bit weird in the beginning, but he definitely grows on you throughout the story. I felt bad for him and the life he's stuck with. He is trapped by parental expectations and business arrangements, which include a girlfriend every guy wants and he cannot get away from. We are still left with many questions about the changes we see in Gabriel throughout this story, but in the sneak peek to book 2, it looks like a lot of things should be cleared up.

Vladimer & Lucien - Vladimer is the villain in the story, and an exceptionally evil one. He is mean, cruel and evil to the core. Lucien is Vlad's brother and even more evil and sadistic. The roles they play aren't too big until the end. I don't like Vladimer or Lucien, but I guess that is the point.

Nicolae - his arrival unsettles Rosaline intensely. He is strange and has quite a few secrets. He plays more of a background role until the last 3rd of the book, but he will play a bigger, more important role in the books to come.

Fane - Fane is Roseline's best friend and lover from long ago. I liked his character and was touched by how much he truly loves Roseline. I do hope to see him in the future books.

Roseline & Sadie - I enjoyed this friendship. They accept each other and their faults completely. I look forward to the growth of this friendship

Roseline & Gabriel - This is a sweet romance. It's nicely paced with one or two steamy moments.

Plot, Writing style & Cover 4/5
Amy has an easy writing style. The only critique I have here is the grammar/editing errors I picked up a few times along the way. The story line was unique and I really enjoyed the twists she brought into the story. The plot has a great pace and the last 20% of the book was really good! There are a few loose ends in the story but nothing that takes away from the plot. The characters are developed, and I think Amy has a lot of potential to work within the next book. Even though I am left with a few questions and a small cliff hanger I am sure these will be covered in the sequel.

Forbidden lay a good foundation for this series.

This series has an awesome cover. I saw this girl on 2 other covers though? This does have me raising a few questions, but ultimately I loved the cover: 5/5

Forbidden is a very interesting book that adds a twist to the "vampire" legend. Roseline Dragomir, or Rose, isn't just the pretty new girl from a foreign land. She is the new girl who has special powers and just happens to be an escapee from her life of wealth, a castle, a bloodline to rival many in all of Romania. Thinking this new home and life would be a safe getaway from her haunting past, Rose moves into a small town in the United States. But little did she know, she'd meet Gabriel, the person that would change her life forever with lust, love, hate, pain, and mystery. My favorite part was when Rose had to save Gabriel after the car accident. I recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense, romance, and mystery. Could Gabriel actually be the one to free her from her mysterious past?
