In my desire to support local merchants I stopped in at a bookstore in Logan Square, Chicago Lit. The store had a section that was dedicated to books about Chicago and authors from Chicago. I skimmed through several and decided on this one because it was about local chefs, restaurants, and recipes from the featured restaurants. Overall I was disappointed! Right when the author would peak my interest on a chef she would then change the subject or assume the reader knew the background on the chef. Also most of the restaurants she chose to highlight were what a tourist would typically read about and visit. Not to mention 99% of the restaurants are very high-end. The majority of the recipes are also for the master chef.....I feel like access to some of the ingredients would be difficult to find for the average person. In light of all that..... there are some great photos in the book, some interesting facts about neighborhoods and development of Chicago's cultural food history and a few recipes that I am looking forward to trying.
