A Foreign Affair: Two Innocents Abroad in Spain

Rate this book
Now available in B format, a wonderfully funny memoir about the reality of 'living the dream' in a foreign land Worn down by yet another dreary English winter and with an emotional disinclination for hard - or indeed any - work, Shaun Briley decides that life in Spain has to be a better bet. So he and his girlfriend Helen set off with their meagre savings (well, hers) and buy an isolated farmhouse in the mountains of Almeria. Two innocents abroad, they don't realise their farmhouse has neither electricity, water or indeed a lavatory. What follows is an extremely funny tale of how not to settle in a foreign land, involving rat racing, runaway horses and extremely infatuated cross-eyed neighbours.

I picked up this book because I thought it would be a quick read (which it was, actually) but found plenty of depth and humor in it's story. I actually wanted it to go on longer.
