As Chi Yamada has shown, kittens are a resourceful and strong lot. Through play and exploration they learn to hunt for their food and to define their territory, much like the big cats of the savannah and jungle. Chi's turf now stretches out for blocks. But after a brief sick spell, she is confined to her condo home while her instincts and heart command her to go out to spend time with her stray friends.
So after a sneaky escape from home, Chi makes her way back to the company of her friends, Cocchi and Blackie, but this time she departs with a better understanding of what it means to be a "cat". What exactly does freedom or being a stray mean, though, is something she will have to learn first hand. And there may be a bit of a kitty culture shock in store.
Konami Kanata (jp. こなみかなた), is a Japanese cartoonist best known for her cat characters Chi's Sweet Home. Her works revolves around the daily life of house cats.
She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut.
This volume was cute as usual but also one of the most emotional volumes to date. Not sad, just a lot of empathy for the characters, especially the animal ones. Starts off with Chi mastering her cone and then getting it removed. But then the Yamadas decide she should be a house cat for her own safety. Chi is confused, why can't she leave? This is sad and frustrating for Chi and yet we also feel for the owners. (My personal opinion is that cats should be house cats). But Cocchi has been waiting for her since the last visit. Cocchi is expectantly waiting for his new found friend and the stray becomes lonely, hostile and lonely as time goes by and Chi doesn't return. But after Mr. Yamada's brilliant idea to take Chi for a walk on leash blows up in his face Chi is free and rushes off to find her friend. Can Chi ever go home again? Will they now lock her up and not let her out? She decides to spend the night with Cocchi and try the "free-living life" and emotions are tugged throughout until the heartwarming, and a bit surprising, ending. A nice change of pace from the other volumes, gives a bit of new life to the series.
Another fantastic volume, this time with more Chi and Cocchi adventures! The chapter with Chi in an Elizabeth's collar is hilarious, and I loved the part where Daddy hooks Chi up to a leash. As always, the cat behaviour is spot-on, and I was happy to see it feature Cocchi so much if only to see cute kitten behaviour times two! I can't wait to see what happens next!
This might well be my favorite book in the series so far. Chi struggles with her family's decision to make her an indoor cat. When she finally escapes and meets up with Cocchi he introduces her to his life as a stray. By book's end though, Cocchi finally gets to experience what a "home" feels like.
A great series for all ages, especially pet lovers.
Chi finally gets better! But she made a promise to Cocchi that she would meet him at the park. So Cocchi waits, and waits, and waits, until he can't wait anymore! He decides to go looking for Chi and ends up finding a kitten that looks just like Chi, but isn't her! So Cocchi decides to follow this kitten.
While Cocchi is following this mystery kitten, Chi decides to go to the park to look for Cocchi! But Cocchi isn't there, so Chi waits, and waits, and waits. Until Auntie Calico tells Chi to go home. That's when Chi finds out that Cocchi is a stray, and doesn't have a home. At the same time Yohei, mommy and daddy are looking for Chi. Well Chi and Cocchi end up finding each other at the park!
Chi spends the night with Cocchi finding food, until Chi falls asleep. Which makes Cocchi fall asleep. But they end up waking up in Chi's home, because daddy, mommy and Yohei found Chi and Cocchi. Cocchi is in the shock of his life when he sees how Chi lives! But Cocchi is an outside cat and can't stand to stay inside, while Chi's family wants Chi to become an indoor cat. What will happen?!
Will Chi end up reuniting with his cat family? Will his human family figure out that Chi belongs to the cat family nearby?
I truly love these books. They have a very special place in my heart as an animal lover and as a cat owner. I still love them as much as when I started them and I give all the credit due to the story being told from the cats perspective!
This story is too adorable NOT to love! Because the story is written from the cats perspective, readers see Chi’s life from the eyes of Chi! And I can’t say it enough how the author truly captures the behavior, attitude, and mindset of a cat. That’s why this series is so successful and internationally known!
This particular volume focuses on Chi wanting to be able go outside to play with Cocchi, and her frustration of not being able to go outside because Chi’s family wanting to keep her safe.
The end result is an adorable story about how the two kittens long for each other’s friendship and how once they meet up, they teach each other to live in the other’s shoes for a day! Like country mouse (Cocchi) meets city mouse (Chi)!
This volume is mostly about Chi wanting freedom and then following the lead of Kocchi, who's a street cat. So there are shenanigans, yes. But mostly it's just very cute. I love the family aspect more than the cat adventures but it was still pretty fun and light-hearted. Kocchi deserves some looooovvveeee.
Foncez lire Chi !
A more enjoyable instalment than previous volumes, this one follows Chi as she apprentices with Cocchi the stray kitten, living the street life. It also looks like a reunion with her cat family might be on the cards for the final volume. Lots of little moments of cuteness in this volume.
У цьому томі Чі дізнається більше про життя на вулиці, а от я встиг поспівчувати її другові Коччі, у якого свого дому немає, тож він ночує у коробці в парку - це вже мій біас котофіла, що бажає рятувати усіх пухнастиків
Love 💕 this series of manga books. Anyone who loves ❤️ cats 🐈 will enjoy this book. Chi 🐈⬛ displays a typical cat character wanting to go outside and explore, while the family wants to keep her inside as a house 🏠 cat🐱
