This was a fun little kinkfest-lite. I had a pretty good handle on Garrett, but needed more from Ethan to get his character though.

I enjoyed this short story about best friends who "play together" that become more. I wish this was longer. I felt like I was stepping into the story and I was missing a few pieces of the puzzle.

Garrett is feeling lonely on house sitting over the holidays. But his friends don't let him down. But even better Ethan comes as well. It seem that things might just be heating up for the holiday.

Normally I'd shy off at "sub to spank" because I don't care all that much for BDSM, but I think I must have hiccupped on that phrase and missed it, and in this case, that's a very good thing. Enlarging my horizons by accident, you could say.
Garrett's friends have promised to join him at the ski-resort inn he's babysitting—they'll have the place to themselves, but not until later in the holidays. Alone in an inn full of sturdy four-poster beds and wishing he wasn't, Garrett gives us the back story on his and Ethan's relationship as his fantasies while playing with himself and a toy. This was nicely done and very hot, and a good thing Garrett's physical needs weren't left as unfulfilled as his emotional needs. He and Ethan have a "friendship with scenes" but Garrett wishes they were really lovers.
He wakes up Christmas morning to find his friends have fought their way into the mountains to be with him. Chris and Will's personalities are deftly drawn in a handful of sentences; they feel very well rounded in a small bit of page time. They have their own problems, which don't overshadow Garrett and Ethan's, but do throw them into sharp relief and spur a resolution at the same time. It comes to a head here:
Chris remained motionless for a moment, accepting the comfort as the focal point of the four-way hug, then lifted his head. “You know, this is pretty touchy-feely considering only one of us is gay.”
And then all the cats come out of their bags in some well-paced revelations.
The story is short and really consists of two sex scenes and conversation, but so much unfolds within it that I found it highly enjoyable. Devon Rhodes did some really nice characterization and relationships; the friendship between all four men was palpable and important to the storyline, so it wasn't just two onlookers cheering the main couple along.
The really implausible element is why the owners of the inn would abandon their money-maker during the peak of the high season, but the characters do make very good use of the place.
The domination elements were very mild, which your light-weight reviewer appreciates, but felt honest and real. The second sex scene, where Ethan brings Garrett's dreams to fruition, lapses into the "only anal sex is real sex" fallacy, but in more than one way it does show how their relationship is changing and deepening. There's also a nice streak of humor to keep them from going totally mushy at one another.
The Christmas elements are very subdued, serving more to point out the gaps in the relationships that need filling, and the story would be equally pleasing to read out of the holidays. I closed the file with a big case of the warm fuzzies. 4.25

May all your Dominant straight-ish best friend Christmas wishes come true
Holiday m/m romance novelette (straight friend to out Dominant lover)
This short (novelette length) reads as satisfying wish-fulfillment (unrealistic but nice to dream about) - a Christmas away with a straight-ish best friend who steps up and out to become a Dominant play partner. Perfect ingredients for those who like just a light touch of control, just enough bi in their straight-ish friend to lover, and a touch of sympathy in their holiday character.

I loved this story, with its very successful combination of Christmas feeling, a bit of play and kink, and even some burgeoning love. The build-up of tension, from Garrett’s lonely thoughts to the final conclusion, was great. While there wasn’t a lot of detailed back story, I enjoyed piecing together the parts of the ‘puzzle’ I was given. Hints at a long friendship between Garret and Ethan (going sledding together as kids) as well as some references from their close friends gave me enough to know that they had been far more than ‘kinky play partners’ for a while – without even knowing it.
Garrett’s loneliness and longing for Ethan to be there with him pulled me into the story from the first page. With mounting evidence that he wants more, I was wishing right along with him. And as the story progressed, I was happy to see that there were a few surprises in store for him. He definitely deserved his happy ending!
Ethan, since we never ‘hear’ from him, remains a bit of an enigma. His actions speak louder than his words, though, and I guess that is what Garrett was looking for as much as anything else. These guys clearly haven’t reached the ‘talking’ part of a relationship, at least not Ethan.
If you like ‘friends to lovers’ stories, are looking for some really hot and slightly kinky sex, and want a Christmas story that leaves you with a smile on your face, try this one. I bet you won’t be disappointed.

I would rate it 3.75 stars. As others have stated it contains mild kink and leather play. The heart of the story is a solid one of two friends uncertain of the exact nature of their relationship. Garrett is housesitting a inn for the Holidays and has invited his friends to spend it with him. And its snowing outside. Hard. And he is alone thinking no one else is going to show. This gives him plenty of time to dwell upon the nature of his friendship with Ethan, someone he has grown up with and is now playing his kinky scenes with. That is no longer enough for Garrett. He has fallen in love with Ethan, and wants more. But how does Ethan feel about him? Garrett is not even sure about Ethan's sexuality. He had hoped for answers this weekend but Ethan had bowed out, saying he had to be with his family on Christmas. Where does this leave Garrett?
With surprise visitors of course. I loved Garrett's other 2 friends, Chris and Will. In fact, I loved them as much as the 2 main characters. I wish the author would take these two characters and run with them right into another story, they grabbed me that much. I will have to go to the author's website and see what is in store next.

This was a nice little short about two guys whose hearts finally catch up with the rest of their body parts and kinks. It felt too short to me - too squished into a short space to give the characters their due, so I wasn't as invested as I could have been in their finally coming together because we didn't really feel any of the angst that led up to it. But it was still a nice short.

Short but still good. It's a friends to lovers story. Garrett and Ethan are friends with benefits but Garrett wishes that there could be more, especially since it seems he will have to spend Christmas alone. I liked that Garretts wish come true and he had a somewhat kinky Christmas present. Some pining with a sweet resolution, makes for a good Christmas story.

I couldn't connect to this short story. The start was full of depressing emotions and feeling of longing. I didn't like it. Sure when the guys came to visit Garret it became more active, but it was simple to undeveloped to be good.

I loved the Garrett had to his friends and how they made sure he was not alone on Christmas. I especially loved the kinky parts using a butt plug and how one of his pals intimate way to celebrate the holiday with Garrett

3-3.5 stars for me. Cute, sexy, mildly kinky story about friends unsure of where they are in their relationship. I would have enjoyed a bit more development in this story, but I enjoy the writing from this author.
