The Immortal Plane #1

All That Falls

Rate this book
"Fae were supremely powerful beings, vessels for the most potent magic. It was why they were the self-appointed guardians of the Immortal Realm. Because they were the only beings powerful enough to keep all the others in check."

Someone is dropping ancient mythical beasts through giant rifts in the fabric of the universe and, somehow, it is Ren Belling's job to stop them.

Living as an abandoned Half Fae in a world that doesn't even know magic exists, Ren finds herself turning to an unlikely ally to heal the mortal realm and save her people. Lark is a banished Fae with a mighty power that he prefers not to talk about even though Ren can see the very glow of it emanating from him at all times.

They strike a deal. He will heal her rift if she will help him back to his side of it. But dangers far worse than the minotaur or the gorgons await them on their journey. Ren knew it from the beginning. Her uncle had always warned her. The Fae are tricky. So what was she thinking?

2.5 stars

Ren is a half-fae who was abandoned in the human realm as a child. She grew up with her uncle and spent her life studying and teaching astrophysics. When mysterious rifts start to appear in the sky, Ren is sent with a team of experts to investigate them and find a way to close them. She quickly realizes that the rifts are more dangerous than they thought, and she finds herself thrown into the Faes’ world, even though she wants nothing to do with them.

I have mixed feelings about this book. While the story is not bad, the characters and the plot lack depth in general. The ideas are there and it is an interesting story, but the characters were not layered or complex enough for me to truly care for them. On the other hand, the world-building is well done, and the ideas are all there and are good, they just need to be more developed.

The change of setting was disappointing to me. The book started in our world, and I though this would be an urban-fantasy adventure, but quickly, Ren and her new companions traveled to the immortal lands and it ended up being another story about a MC discovering a whole new world and getting way too invested in it. The whole “I was a nobody until I discovered that I was not” plotline is also not a favorite of mine, so it made it even harder to get engaged in Ren’s story. I was hoping to see her fight rift monsters to save the Earth more than just once.

There were some twists and betrayals, but they were not that shocking. Ren is 60 years old, but still looks 19, and she spent the past decades teaching at the same University, yet she is shocked to learn that people found out she is a half-fae. If you do not age, you can’t stay forever in the same place and expect people not to ask any questions, simply by hiding when someone you knew before comes to visit. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Also, because we didn’t know much about Ren and her backstory at first, the betrayals she suffered and the shocking revelations (that were not all that shocking) we learned did not have as much impact as they could have. Her backstory is slowly revealed throughout the book though, thankfully. Finally, she has a tendency to trust too easily and to get angry way too quickly, which makes her seem much younger and immature than her 60 years.

Ren’s trust and the alliances she makes also shift depending on what people tell her, and it was a little frustrating to see how easily she pushed away the people she called friends, even best friends, only to then trust her ex-friends’ enemies. She shifted her allegiance too quickly and went as far as to trust and defend the people holding her hostage. Sure, she was treated well, and for some mysterious reason they decided to train her and show her how to use her magic, but she still defended them against people saying that it was not okay to keep her hostage…

There are some typos, and some information is repeated yet presented as new. For example, Ren hears a conversation in which a character mentions a woman and also mentions that she is his sister. A few pages later, when the character tells Ren directly that the woman is his sister, she blanches and is shocked, as if this is a shocking revelation, even though he mentioned it minutes ago in another conversation.

I look at you and I see nothing but good. No matter what the others say about you, about your court and your family, you’re my friend and, frankly, you might be the best one I’ve ever had.”

Overall, everything progressed too quickly. Ren said that (see quote) to a woman she met 2 days ago. She gets very invested in the politics of a land she knows nothing about, and she cares deeply about it and about people she met only a day or two ago. It would have made more sense to me if she had known them for a longer period before getting involved in their politics and plans. Then again, other times, Ren mentioned that weeks had passed since an event and I was shocked because it felt like mere days had passed. The pace was quick (too quick even at times), but the time jumps made it confusing at times.

The romance is a slow-burn, but at the same time, it almost feels like an insta-lust and insta-connection romance, which I am not a fan of. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between the main character and the love interest. It got better near the end, and I was starting to feel more the depth of their bond, but it was too little too late for me to truly get invested in their romance.

While I did not love this book that much, I want to repeat that the ideas are great, and it has a lot of potential. With a little more editing and the addition of a few extra chapters to bring more depth to the characters and their relationships, it would make the betrayals, revelations, and general plot much more impactful. I would still recommend that fantasy lovers looking for a fast-paced adventure give this one a chance. Many readers loved it more than I did, as I see many 4-star and 5-star reviews.

Why does this book have so little reviews ? Why is the whole world sleeping on this ?
The author reached out to see if I could maybe read her book some day, I agreed, and let me tell you, I should have read it sooner ! The scientist at first appears as a holier-than-thou kind of half fae and I didn't like her attitude at all. Until she gets yeeted into the immortal plane by a fae she just met and then she gets humbled real quick. We learn about that plane with her as we discover the different courts and their roles, and the reason why the mysterious dark fae was banished with two other friends in the mortal plane in the first place. There's political intrigue, morally grey characters, plot twists, mythical creatures and solid world building. I had a lot of fun while reading this and soon changed my mind about our FMC that had revelations thrown at her. READ THIS ! Also I need book 2, please.

Dnf @ 20% - I’m legitimately wondering if I’m reading the same book as those who rated it so highly? Maybe the wrong file was uploaded to KDP after a manuscript update?

This is a draft. It’s filled with loads of run on sentences, redundancies, contradictions, and inconsistencies. The premise is interesting - like fae wizard of oz with a heroine that’s kinda Jane Foster’ish (Thor) but.. it needs to be edited. Badly.

This is not a dig at the author at all (if you’re reading this, you’re awesome.) Most drafts are very rough, and editing polishes it all up to make it look and read pretty. Some authors are good at self-editing, many are not. While self-editing IS important, due to personal attachment to the story it can be difficult to remain objective. It’s also easy to miss obvious issues because you’ve stared at it for so long.

There’s a decent chance the author reads reviews, so I’m going to provide obvious examples of inconsistencies when I get a chance later today. While it might help, they’ll be things that an editor (or even a beta reader) should have noticed right away.

I received a very welcomed email from A.N. Horton asking if I’d be interested in reading her book. She worded it as follows:

“ALL THAT FALLS is book one in my Immortal Plane series and yes, it is a dark fae romantasy with tropes of found family, fated mates, strong fmc, brooding mmc, hidden identity, as well as gods and mythology. If all of that sounds good to you, I’d love to have you on board!”

.. and I was like SOLD. Sign me up!!

I cannot tell you how much I LOVED THIS BOOK. Just imagine Luther Corbois was banished from his court by his King Father because he abducted the FMC, Ren who is an astrophysicist half fae living in the mortal world for 60 years in secret and closing these rifts that keep appearing, dropping mythological beings on the human plane. And that’s just how it starts, never mind all the action throughout!!

I ate this book up, literally couldn’t put it down and am counting down the days until the second release in October.

Thank you so much for entrusting me with your book & allowing me to read it, so I can now scream it from the roof tops YALL ITS THAT GOOD.

wow wow wow! I am actually at a loss for words. This was such a unique twist on a romantasy. Ren is a half fae abandoned in the human realm who has dedicated her life to studying astrophysics. To the humans magic does not exist. When mysterious black rifts start forming in the sky dropping mythical creatures Ren will do anything to close them. Fae, politics, mythical creatures, secrets, and a steamy slow burn?!?! You will not be able to put this down. I felt so much while reading this and fell in love with the friendships formed between Rook, Cass, Lark🥵, and Ren. The ending had me itching for more and i will now be jumping right into the second book! Enjoy ✨🖤

Noteworthy: Book 1 of a completed trilogy. Single 1st person pov. Available on KU.

I liked some aspects of this book like the constellation names being used by one of the courts and the use of mythological creatures. But for me this story lacked depth. I didn't really get to know the characters enough to care. I can see this being a fun, quick read for someone looking for intro to fantasy or maybe a young adult.

Everything happened so fast and it lacked a bit of depth for me. This isn’t a complex story which is fun to read when you want to get a little breather book. But it does feel like I knew little of the characters so I didn’t get as attached as I usually do. Still a good story.

3.5. This was a very quick read and enjoyable enough. There were a few inconsistencies in the story and there wasn't enough emotional development for me to get on board with any of the characters (especially a 60 year old scientist thrown into a whole new realm, showing absolutely no interest in anything science related?) but I'll probably pick up the next in the series because of the unique take on the fae/mortal divide.

This felt like a conglomeration of a lot of different fantasy stories, and not done nearly as well as they are. I did like the different courts and how they are organized, and the family dynamics were fun to follow, but this just left me wanting more.

aesthetic: 🖤🗡️🏛️💫💼🌈🌬️🫀⛓️‍💥🪢🤜

I took my time reading this one, unlike my last few books this one had an academic view point. I wanted to slowly soak up each chapter, grasping how the world was structured and how each court was represented, because it included so much diversity. The immortal plane is made up of 3 main courts, all represented by neutral colours (brown, white and black) and between each of those courts is a series of seven minor courts each one a different colour of the rainbow. It felt like divergent in the sense that each colour represented a different strengths or calling for the fae, for example blue (like erudite) was for the academics etc.

The plot was so well structured, it was easy to follow along and the setting and characters were so thoroughly depicted that it was clear and detailed, painting the perfect imagery in the readers mind. The topics of segregation between fae and mortals, the great immortal war that started it all, the misunderstood characters of the ‘blood and bone court’ gave the same vibes as acotar but with a vastly unique storyline. There were moments I was so giddy I was blushing and grinning from ear-to-ear, moments of shock that left me gasping and staring at a wall, anger and frustration and even moments I was laughing from the sarcasm and banter between the characters.

I love how A.N. Horton developed these characters, nothing was instantaneous, the trust had to be built from scratch and the journey to different courts and training was slow and high stakes. Ren also had to learn the rules of the immortals and also train her own abilities which proved challenging and tedious, it felt realistic in the sense that she didn’t pick up on everything right away, she was an academic so the concepts made sense but putting them into action required more time and physical concentration that she wasn’t used too.

The villain to the story was so unexpected and so intriguing that the last 100+ pages were intense and had me in a chokehold. I’m also so glad I waited to finish this book because you’ll need book 2 immediately after.

Thank you so much to A.N. Horton for sending me an ebook copy of ‘all that falls’ it was an incredible fantasy story that was whimsical, intense, and diverse.

Thank you to the author for sharing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Ren Belling has a secret: magic is real and she is half Fae. When rifts between worlds begin appearing in the skies, she must acknowledge the part of her she has hidden all of her life. Lark, a Fae banished from his world, offers to fix the rift if Ren will help him get back home. The two strike a deal, and Ren's life is changed forever. She discovers that the world of the Fae is full of secrets, deception, and cunning, but also holds the key to the truth about her past--and maybe her future.

This book hooked me from the start and did not let go! I was immediately invested in the characters and the multiple twists and turns of the story kept me on my toes. It was really fun to discover the world of the Fae along with Ren and watch her come into her power. I appreciated the world-building and unique magic system in the book. In addition to the fantasy, there was a strong romantic element with a lot of pining. I am excited to see where the story goes and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.5⭐️holy. wow. this book is amazing!!! horton sent me an ebook copy of this book and im obsessed with it!!! i cannot believe no one else is talking about it. i NEED to read the second book because it ended off on such a major cliffhanger.
i love how she combined fantasy with mythological creatures in our world and put her own spin on their stories. she made the characters and their world come alive with her world building of the courts, their colors, policies, and how the fae world exists on the other side of the Divide. it is such a shame no one has talked about this book enough, but i’m making sure to blast this everywhere!

Wow what a book!! I absolutely devoured this over 24 hours and loved every second of it. I am shocked it doesn’t have more reviews. The author reached out to me to read her book and I am so glad she did because it was such an interesting story that combines sci-fi / fantasy/ romance and some hints of Greek mythology! I was so invested in the storyline and I am so excited to see where the story will go after the cliffhanger it’s been left on! The plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not read fast enough!!Thank you so much to the author for sending me this book and I will be encouraging many people to read it too!!

This was a fun fantasy read! The world building was minimal and not hard to understand as well as the magic system so this would be a great intro to fantasy book for people getting started in the fantasy genre.
I really loved all of the characters. Their chemistry and friendship reminded me a lot of the inner circle from the acotar.
The conflict in the story with the rifts opening was intriguing and was a plot i’ve never read before!
And then that ending!? Oh my goodness, what a cliffhanger! 😭
I look forward to the next book!

When I started this book back in December, I was not in the headspace for such a deeply woven fantasy, but I am SO glad that I came back to it! A. N. Horton has crafted a world beyond the veil of magic and intrigue, with courts of Fae reminiscent of both the factions of Divergent (but with a choice) and the courts in ACOTAR. The slow burn romance is *chef’s kiss* and the stakes and twists Seren goes through, just perfect. This is one that is great for fans of the ACOTAR series, with a strong FMC and found family, I can’t wait to read more.

Well well well. Author reached out to me on this and it didn't disappoint. I'm impressed with this bring her first romantasy. There isn't any spice really BUT THERES TENSION. love me some Lark and the cliff hanger!!! Great world building that wasn't super heavy. You have found family and I truly loved the characters. Touch her and die vibes. I'm excited for the next book and hopefully there's a little more spice (just my preference). GREAT JOB

This was my first Advanced Reader Copy (ARC), & I totally loved the experience. I would like to thank the author, Ms. A. N. Horton for providing me with the free e-book of her novel.
As a critical reader, there were a lot of things I adored, & a few things that I detested.
Finally I could find a book that literally had no cuss words. I was highly impressed with how the vocabulary was used. The author did great in her word selection. The plot kept me hooked. This genre is a mix of romance & action. The ending was emotional & overwhelming, but ironically I loved it.The thing that I did not like was the building up of romance. Being 'soul - bonded' with a person of 60 years age gap seemed too unreal. There was not much 'spice' in the romance. Also, I could not understand the reason behind keeping two different names used for the same person. I also wanted to have a point of view of Lark, particularly from part 3 of the book.
I really hope that there comes another sequel of this book, that will also mention the feelings of Lark, and what would happen next.

I’m loving everything in this book!

We meet Ren, a half-Fae astrophysicist living in the mortal realm. She travels around trying to heal rifts between the magical realm and her mortal realm. It’s not clear how they are able to do this. At her latest trip, a Minotaur dropped through the rift, causing chaos. She was able to take down the Minotaur with an explosion, but was then air-lifted home. Once back at work, she runs across Lark, a banished Fae, with his friend Rook. He shares that he can close the rift, but she needs to help him get home. While the how of this agreement isn’t nailed down, he does transport her back to the rift and is able to quickly close it. However, they were witnessed by her science team. The team’s intentions are unclear, so Lark and Rook escape to the magical realm (also known as the Immortal Plane) and Lark pulls Ren through as well.

During their time in the Immortal Plane, we learn several truths alongside Ren, including that Lark is the prince of one of the Fae courts and Ren (or Seren) is essentially the lost princess of another Fae court. She also has several versions of a truth told to her at different times in the story, making her question who is trustworthy. Ren also learns of a bond between her and Lark (also known as soul mates) and of her own innate powers and how to use them. As we near the end of this book, Ren makes a deal to save her friends but this causes her to be separated from them.

I loved everything this book had! We have a parallel realm, secrets and betrayal, and fated mates! We see so much tension between Ren and Lark that slow burns throughout the story. I loved the inclusion of several mythology aspects with Minotaurs and gorgons. We celebrate with Ren as she figures out her magic through training, and despair with her sorrows. I cannot wait to see what All That Soars brings to this series!!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

↳ This book is vibes. It actually gives me some of the best vibes. A friend and I have described it as the perfect marriage between two series that we adore.

However, this book is entirely unique so it isn’t fair to share the comparisons. Just know that the vibes are vibing, and I think you’ll love it if you love romantasy.

Plus, this FMC may be a new favorite of mine. I clap my hands for this badass.

I really enjoyed this book, it was interesting and something a bit different to the usual fantasy. I loved the plots twists and the characters. I especially loved Seren and Lark (enemies to lovers eeeeeek) and can’t wait to see what happens in books two. It was fast paced and a book I couldn’t put down. The writing was easy to follow and I knew exactly what was happening from the start. I zoomed through this book and need the next one immediately.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book overall, but I couldn’t really rate it a full 4 stars. It’s an intriguing story and I like the characters, but the book felt rushed and lacked depth in all ways. I’m hoping the second book is longer and takes more time to give us details and depth.

I don’t have enough socks to get knocked off of my feet.

Aside from the given synopsis and blurb, I walked into this blind. And I’m the better for it! The amount of things that would happen on every turn kept me on the tip of my toes, wondering what would come next.

First of all, from the first chapter I was very much invested. I love and am interested in all things astrophysics, so when I saw that the preliminary discussion during the first chapter was about astrophysics, my enjoyment and appreciation shot up. Especially with a few more characters that get introduced later on with names relating to the constellations, the book crept itself closer to my heart.

There’s layers and layers of mystery that just constantly kept me intrigued and more anxious as the book was about to end. You know, those 20-final-pages jitters. Thankfully, this is the first of a series! But also, this just means I need to wait up until then before I get to find out more 😭 BUT YEAH, MUCH CLIFFS HAVE BEEN HANGED.

Other than thematic mentions of astrophysics and constellations, enjoy the coming to life of mythological creatures in this wonderful first book. It’s not simply fae and humans living about in their plane of existence, but our known mythological creatures such as the minotaur, gorgons, and more!

But of course, there’s no fantasy story that’d be successful if they lacked solid and interesting world-building. Gratefully, we’re blessed with amazing world-building. It’s the same, but different. It’s unique, but familiar. Here, we find a fresh concept of the fae’s way of living as well as their lore in relation to the human plane of existence.

Ren. I had a lot of mixed feelings, but my overall thoughts about her as a character are positive. She brings about a perspective that came from her strong will to belong when she’s been tossed about, not knowing where she belongs as a Half-Fae. However, I do adore her entire character development journey all throughout this book and I’m sure there will be more to come as the series goes on. It’s worth mentioning that I believe how she reacts to things is warranted for the most part, if you think about what it could possibly feel like when you’re in her shoes.

Lark. He starts off very charming and sarcastic but immediately catches your interest as he seems to be filled with much intrigue and mystery. And for good reason. We’ve been mainly focused on our FMC, but you will find out a lot about him and feel many emotions rush through you as you read on.

The romance. I would say this is a slow burn (this is a positive on my side, or at least, not a negative). We do get chemistry and interactions that you want to treasure.

Side characters. I actually very much adore the other characters. This first book is focused mainly on our main characters so we haven’t had that much time to learn more about them. Hopefully in the sequels, their stories get fleshed out!

The plot. As mentioned, the story progressed in ways I didn’t figure it going, and I’m all here for it! There’s political struggles (also a positive on my part), mysteries unraveled, heart-wrenching moments, and more twists and turns than a messy, tangled up ball of yarn. Overall, it’s a ride, and I just want to buy another ticket.

To the author, A.N. Horton. Firstly, I would like to say thank you for letting me read this amazing first book. I needed time to digest that cliffhanger before I sat up to write this down, because, trust me– I have many thoughts and I wanted to talk about them here. But I kept this as spoiler free as I could! I love what you’ve done to the world and the imagery you made use of to make it feel all the more real. This was such a wonderfully written story and I’ll get a paperback as soon as I’m able.

Now excuse me, I will now patiently wait until book 2.

"Rifts in the fabric of time and space were becoming a real nuisance."
And that was it; I was sold after the first sentence. I mean, how can you not love the tone and attitude? And then it just keeps getting better...

I am honestly stunned that this book and series aren't getting more hype. I feel like it is my mission to spread the word and make you fall in love with All That Falls, Book 1 in The Immortal Plane series by A. N. Horton.

The writing style, the plot, the pace, the characters—everything is so flawlessly executed. I couldn't put the book down; I had to keep reading. And oh, the pain, the love, the devotion... I was sold on it all. Add to the mixture a beautiful yet imperfect found family, intrigue & secrets, hidden motives, love, devotion, and sacrifice—you will get the masterpiece that is All That Falls.

I love Ren, the FMC. She is half-Fae, a scientist; she is intelligent and feisty, yet she also has her share of pain, guilt, and vulnerability. After she finds a mysterious Fae male waiting for her in her office one day, her life is completely changed. Hey, not to mention she managed to unalive a minotaur who fell from a hole in the sky. But, when she finds herself in the Immortal plane, in her mother's world, a sequence of events will take place, and they will sweep her off her feet. Well, it doesn't hurt that she may be swept off her feet by a certain Fae who goes by the name of Lark, right?

I loved the interaction between Ren and her found family, not just Lark but Cass and Rook. Their dynamics were beautiful to read, with all its ups & downs. I laughed, cried, and hurt, but it was all worth it. I loved witnessing Ren accepting the other half of her, learning who she is and what she can do. And the slow burn and tension between her and Lark was a chef's kiss.

I'm craving the next instalment. Book 2: I'm ready for you!

All That Falls will bring you
- a gripping & exciting plot
- beautiful world-building
- a perfect yet imperfect found family
- hidden identities
- secrets, intrigue & betrayals
- fated mates
- morally grey characters
and a chance to discover a beautiful new romantasy series!

I love a good fae romantasy. A.N. Horton certainly delivered that with the first book in the Immortal Plan series. All That Falls made all my fae dreams come true.

The story starts off in the mortal realm with rifts opening and monsters coming through quickly shifts to the fae realm and I loved it. Horton did a good job of explaining the different courts, their purpose, beliefs, and whatnot. It was really interesting especially since a lot of it is tied to well-known myths. What a unique twist. Turns out all the stories are true. Turns out myths and legends come from somewhere, that somewhere being the fae. I do wish there was more magic and a better explanation of other powers but from what was mentioned so far the magic seems pretty cool. Shadowwalking should be the only way to travel, I would love that as a power.

The characters feel a bit older, I say feel because we are dealing with the fae and age ain't nothing but a number. MFC Ren is a professor at a college in New York. Ren's cool. Obviously, she's very intelligent, also caring, and curious about so much, the only real issue is her temper, it's going to get her into trouble but I love it. The MMC is Lark, he's fae and has those shadow daddy vibes. He's really intense when it comes to Ren but it's an off-and-on thing but the moment when it's on, watch out. I like Lark, he's more than what most see on the surface. This is a slow burn I can't wait for things to heat up.

This book had a great supporting cast, I adored Cass and Rook and their devotion to Lark was touching. Horton was a bit unpredictable with the story, I mean you may know we go from point A to point B but it was wild how we get there. The twists and turns in this story were so good. There is a lot of hinky stuff going on and one court seems to be at the center. The story held my interest. I mean how could it not with sibling rivalry at its finest, assassination attempts, crazy magic, and little clues leading to a huge plot twist.

OMG! That ending was world-altering. I'm still in shock. In one word, outstanding. All That Falls was outstanding. My heart is beating faster just thinking about the next book, I can't wait.

My thoughts-
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this story, certainly not an amazing 5 star read, but I loved it!

From the first few paragraphs I was hooked, I literally could not tear my eyes from the page or put this book down.

This is a fantasy romance with a gripping plot, beautiful world-building woven throughout, and characters that make you feel all the feels.

I felt an almost-instant connection to Ren, the fmc, who is a scientist, professor, and half-fae living in the mortal realm. I love how her mind works, and how much she grows as a character throughout the book.

I also found my next book boyfriend, Lark, the tall, dark and powerful fae mmc who's spent years banished from his home realm, serving a sentence for his past crimes. He totally gave me Rhysand vibes, and I'm here for it 🥵 *swoon*!

The chemistry between the two main characters jumped right off the page and into my heart. I loved every interaction they had, because there was always just so much feeling and emotion involved.

I found myself a blubbering mess a couple of times while reading this book, but there were also parts where I laughed aloud, gasped, and felt rage burning within me. For me, when I'm feeling what the characters are, and on such a deep level, it always marks an excellent book, and I couldn't fault this one, other than wanting it be be longer because I didn't want to leave.

But that cliffhanger!! I was trying to turn the page, and couldn't understand why it wasn't working, then I realised that was the end of the book 🥺.

I'm really looking forward to the next book, because I can't wait to continue with Ren and Lark's journey. But in the meantime, I'm just about to order myself the paperback so I can re-read it when I auto-buy book 2.

☆ I received an eARC of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own honest opinions. ☆

All That Falls is a wonderfully written fantasy book that follows an independent and smart female main character by the name of Seren or Ren. Seren is a half fae whose story starts off in the human world to then be magically taken into the fae world by the mmc Lark and his friend Rook. In the story we find out secrets, lies, turmoil and hard truths that ultimately lead Ren to sacrifice herself to save the man she is starting to fall in love with and her friends.

This book was beautifully written. From the beginning there was a very clear story like that we were able to follow and begin being sucked into the story. This book had everything that a book, especially a fantasy one needs. It had the formation of the magical world that was relayed to the readers in a way that did not feel like an information dump. We had clear definition of powers, what the hierarchy was, how the world had turmoil and what that meant. All of this was blended in with a story that was fast paced and fun to keep up with. We had questions formed, some of which were answered, while others are left unknown. We had the formation of various turmoil within the story that kept pushing it along, while also leaving me shocked with the plot twists that kept being revealed. If that was not enough, we then had the wonderful characters. Ren is an independent fmc, Lark is a protective touch-her-you-die mmc, Rook is a partial comedic relief character, then lastly is Cass who is the sister we all wanted.

A.N. Horton did a wonderful job with this book in taking everything that we love about fantasy/romantasy books and giving us another world to get lost in. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great fantasy read!

If you liked Kingdom of The Wicked and the Cruel Prince, this is a must read for you.
