I live in the south west of Scotland. I grew up with a great love for reading and it was only a matter of time before I started writing my own stories! : )

Publisher's don't have editors on a whim. I wish indie authors would realize that and, if they can't afford an independent editor (and yes, I know there are a number of charlatans out there); set the manuscript aside a good year or so and re-read it to find the things that jump out at people who aren't you later. Things like:

inconsistent pacing
overblown description
physically impossible action sequences
over-reliance on pop culture shorthand

This was okay. More novella than novel; it felt like a setup to a series more than the first book in a series. I admire anyone with the fortitude to finish a manuscript and the bravery to put it out there in the world for people like me to read. That does not mean I have to admire the product.

The ideas had potential, though at least one 'big reveal' from the end of the story was patently obvious from early on in the book. With a little time and effort this could have been a much better book; in it's current state I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
