Poet, writer, activist, entertainer, Maya Angelou is all of these. Her remarkable story includes a childhood trauma, a leading role in an opera, her activism in the civil rights movement, and her devotion to poetry, writing, and teaching to promote the cause of all African-Americans. Based in part on Maya's autobiography, this is the inspiring story of an extraordinary woman.
"Pettit makes [Angelou's] stirring story accessible...while retaining a strong sense of Angelou's personal voice. -- Booklist
I would have liked a little more detail about her late life, such as her work with Malcolm X and earning her laureates, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize, rather than her failed marriages. But for a crash course, this is an excellent start for anyone unfamiliar with her work.
ik wil zeker maya’s eigen werken lezen. het begin was heel mooi geschreven (ondanks de gruwels in haar leven), maar het geheel werd wat gehaast naar het einde toe.
If you like reading about nonfiction then you will love this book. The book that I read is Maya Angelou Journey Of The Heart .This book had 70 pages and the author is Jayne Pettit .I rate this book a 5 out of 5 because I really enjoyed it and it was an autobiography .This book is about a remarkable journey of a woman whose courage , faith and determination had given her the strength to conquer her innermost fears in the face of the overwhelming odds.My favorite quote from this book by Maya Angelou is “ I speak to the black experience , but I am always talking about the human condition about what we can endure dream, fail, and still stand ’’. Dr. Maya Angelou said this in one of her poems .In this quote I think Maya Angelou is talking about people and how we should follow the dreams and that sometimes us people fail but we still get up .Just because we fail at one thing does not mean we give up.This book is amazing .It explains how Maya’s life was an what she had to go though watching lynching happen and experiencing racism . Life was hard for Maya and her older brother Bailey moving from place .One action I admire about her is throughout all the hard times she stayed strong through all of it .This book really made me think about how our society is because racism and lynching is wrong .I still don't understand how some people can be proud and watch lynching happen .
