As a Thanksgiving read-aloud, it’s short and sweet. I’m knocking off a star for being labeled as a “First Reader” aimed at 5 and 6 year olds, though. Being on my third year of living in the trenches of teaching my older two kids to read, I know they would freak out about the length of the word “Thanksgiving”, that “potatoes” Is a shockingly hard word to sound out when the entire first level of your reading curriculum is mostly focused on short vowels, and there’s so many other words that don’t follow the earlier phonics rules learned, at least in my curriculum (which is one of the most popular among the homeschool circles, from what I’ve gathered.) I never knew how absolutely frustrating the early reader genre was until trying to find anything outside of the curriculum that my kids can read independently. And that finishes my soap box rant, for now.

A good thanksgiving story for children to read. The only con I can list is in the back there are question and answers about the story. I found that a Q&A always took away from pure pleasure of reading when I had to do homework after.

Would be more fun at an older age, I suspect.
