Redneck Romeo

Rate this book
The last McKay standing is knocked to his knees…

Three years ago, Dalton McKay looked across the altar and saw the woman he knew he’d love for the rest of his life…only it wasn’t his bride. That’s when he took the McKays’ love-’em-and-leave-’em reputation to new heights—fleeing the ceremony and Wyoming.

Now a family issue has brought Dalton back to Sundance, giving him a chance to prove to everyone—especially the woman he thought he lost—that he’s a changed man.

Aurora “Rory” Wetzler has fallen for cowboy hottie Dalton’s smooth-talkin’ ways too many times. So he’s determined to convince her he’s playing for keeps this go around? Fine. She’ll call that bluff—she can’t ignore their intense chemistry or resist smokin’ hot sex, but she’s not willing to gamble her heart again.

Dalton has plenty of fences to mend with the McKays, but his biggest fear is that Rory doesn’t believe they have a future. He’ll have to pull out all the stops to show her they belong together for the long haul.

Warning: Contains a sexy cowboy who tames his sassy lady love with his romantic and his kinky side. In explicit detail.

I have been a fan of LLJ’s for a looooong time but I admit I fell behind in this series. I’m so darn glad that I finally put all my other to read books behind to read this one.

I LOVED Dalton! He was so fucking sexy, romantic, forgiving, and relentless in his pursuit of winning Rory’s heart. I really felt bad about the way his father treated him, it was despicable.

Rory on the other hand, I had a love/hate thing going for her. I hated that she loved him but could not trust him. I mean COME ON, you’ve only known him for how long? GRRRRRR!

The heat level was high and the sex scenes will certainly dampen your panties. Dalton was a total sex god when it came to pleasuring Rory.

I absolutely loved that we got a glimpse into so many other characters from this series.

The ending was wonderful and I had a huge smile on my face.
I’m only two books behind and I know it won’t be long before I dive into them too.

I highly recommend this series to all of you who love a good solid story line, with YUMMY cowboy heroes, HOT SEX and very happy ending.

5 BUCKING STARS!!

Wow. Just Wow! This book is absolutely a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! Like every reader of this wonderful series, I have my books that are my favs and I have to say Dalton's book is just high on that list right now. Out of all the books this was the most deeply intense and shocking!!

I won't give anything away with spoilers which is why this won't be a long review but holy hell, the explosive 'what the fucking fuck' moment blind sided me to no end that I just have to write about my shock and excitement.

I totally wasn't expecting the bombshell that was dropped on Dalton and other Mckay's, I felt like my whole life had been a lie and I didn't want to accept what I was reading.

Of course a mama McKay cleared the air and made me happy to be alive again but honestly for a time there I was stuck in this sad hole with Dalton and didn't know if I would get out. Once things cleared up in the last couple of chapters I was a happy camper again and smiling more than ever. I loved, loved, loved how what happened wasn't just Dalton's problem, it was a McKay family problem and they got through it together. That made me happy. Good team work, guys!

They really are my favourite fictional family, ever! The characters, as usual, are awesome and like all Lorelei's character's they are developed so well. I actually feel like I grow up with them, I mean an example is Kyler. He is a teenager in this book. A teenager!! I was fan girling something crazy over him because it's a jump from Cord and AJ's book when he is just a little kid to being a teenager out driving his own truck and necking on with girl's, I just loved it.

** I also really want a book for him as well as Sierra and Boone. I honestly don't want this series to ever end, eighteen books in and I still want more of the McKay and West family!!**

I completely adored Dalton and Rory's relationship and the way they treated each other. Dalton was constantly so sweet and affectionate and damned determined to get what he wanted. Rory.

She was hard headed most of the time because she was protecting her heart and trying her to best to just fool around with a McKay without get her heart caught up in the fun.

Rookie mistake, Rory, you don't mess with a McKay man and expect to come out on top...unless he wants you on top. ;)

I laughed while reading this, blushed - it's a Rough Riders book, I expected nothing less than an overload of hot sex which is what I got! - and sometimes even paused and re-read some paragraphs because they would be so deep and honestly touching. I'll be the first to admit I did cry some while reading this book, mainly for Dalton, my poor boy when through the ringer growing up and then some in adult hood! I'm a sucker for happy endings and as usual with a Rough Riders book, I got what I wanted.

The tie between the prologue and epilogue was awesome as well, the scenes were almost the exact same but had a completely different outcomes! That was great, I really liked that!

This was just an overall amazing read!! I waited up till five a.m. for my damn download to kick in after the publication date went live and then stayed up for five hours reading it. It was so worth it, it's found a home on my Kindle in its own collection with the rest of its Rough Riders brothers and sisters!

So looking forward to reading this again, just thinking of Dalton and the McKay/West clan make me weak!!

Everything she’d ever wanted from him had been right there in his eyes…as he was about to marry her best friend.

Oh boy, where to start. Dalton Mckay messed up and he messed up good! 3 years ago he realized his fiancée wasn’t the woman for him. He looked into Rory’s eyes and realized she was the woman he needed to be with and he couldn’t carry on pretending with his bride to be for one minute longer! Problem was he happened to be at his own wedding at the time and Rory was the maid of honor. Awkward doesn’t even begin to describe that mess and a few days later Dalton left town in exchange for a life of aimless travel and poker.

Fast forward three years and Dalton’s summoned home by his brothers. Casper, his first rate asshole of a father, has had a stroke and the family needs Dalton’s help. When he finds out Rory’s also back in town after a breakup with her fiancé, Dalton wastes no time in heading home. I loved the backstory of Dalton and Rory’s relationship. I’m not going to break it down here because breaking down the interfamilial relationships in this series is a full time job and I’m not up for it. Dalton and Rory have had a special relationship since childhood, he unceremoniously took her V card and she no longer trusts him. Needless to say Dalton has his work cut out for him, but he knows this and is up to the task.

Lorelei James can write a hot cowboy and Dalton Mckay was no exception. What I didn’t expect was for his character to be so contrite and apologetic for how he’s treated Rory in the past, but the man realized he was in love and given the chance, nothing was going to stop him. Rory held off for as long as she could. She kept it a just sex type of relationship but come on; how long is a woman supposed to resist that Mckay charm and obvious…attributes.

Holy crap. Jessie was pregnant too? Rory had considered ditching the condoms with Dalton since she was on the pill, but seeing these virile Mckay males? Now she had half a mind to demand Dalton double bag his dick-just to be safe.

This family reproduces like bunnies! KEEP IT WRAPPED, RORY!

While I liked Redneck Romeo there was something missing for me. I don’t know if I’m just bored with the series or in a slump, but I found myself skimming at times. I did enjoy the closure the book provided for this particular wing of the McKay clan, but I’m not so sure I’m going to rush out and read any future offerings.

Lorelei James has done it again!
No one and I mean NO ONE writes cowboys like she does!

I love LOVE LOVE the McKay/West’s… they are one of my favorite families I have EVER read about…

But Jesus the way they ganged up on Dalton on times… I wanted to smack every single of them.
There was one scene when they catch up for poker.
It’s Colby, Cord, Colt, Cam, Kane, Kade, Tell, Brandt, Keely, Ben, Gavin and maybe some others, that I can’t think of.
But they all attack Dalton and Gavin is the only one to stand up for him..
God I wanted to give Gavin the biggest High Five ever!

Highfive photo 0E1CE0C0.jpg

The reason that this book is different to the rest?
Is the emotional level..

Man I have never cried as much in a Rough Riders book as I did in this one…

Don’t get me wrong, we still get all the hot as sex that we know and love, (we even learn where Dalton learned some of his moves! LOL) we just get more character depth than ever before.

Heart felt “Deep and meaningful” conversations with Ben, Brandt, Tell, Rory and even his mum and uncle

I’m going to leave everything that happens as a surprise and just tell you that I loved LOVED LOVED this book! (Chase is STILL my favorite though!)

In typical style we get the drop in appearances so that we learn what’s going on with past characters.
MY GOD I CAN’T KEEP UP WITH THE KIDS! – Yep I had to refer to the family tree again!

http://www.loreleijames.com/docs/mcka...

Kyler sounds like an awesome little dude!

The Question is now though….
Everyone is all married off…
So do we get more?

Is it Sierra and Boon??!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I Hope it is!
or Kyler’s turn next?
Or is this the end of the McKay’s/West’s?

I HOPE NOT!

I’ll admit I had a specific path in mind for Dalton and even though I knew it wasn’t going to come to pass, I wondered how I’d feel about this book, but in my heart I knew if anyone could make it all okay, it would be Lorelei James. I wasn’t wrong and while I should have expected it after Gone Country, I wasn’t prepared for the emotional upheaval that took Dalton away from his family, the family drama that has him heading home after three years away, and the woman who could keep him there. Anyone of these storylines would have made an excellent book but all together they create a spectacular story filled with tenderness, tears, grief, healing, hope, and most of all love. To be clear, yes this is an emotional story and yes I cried buckets, but it’s also a LJ story about a McKay man on a mission and make no mistake Dalton is all man and all McKay; so in addition to the shit storm of feelings you will undoubtedly experience, this book is every bit as hot and erotic as any of the other stories in this series. So saddle up and enjoy the story of the last McKay man standing, Dalton and the woman he’s been in love with since he was a kid, Aurora Rose Wetzler.

Before each new release in the series, I always do a full re-read of the books. This time I read a little differently than in the past; I read and searched for scenes that included Dalton. I read each scene over a couple of times because Dalton is one of those characters that for the most part has blended into the background. Yes, we knew he was there and yes he’s had a few “big” scenes but for the most part he’s been the youngest of the McKay men of the middle generation and referred to often as a screw-up. He’s known for his drinking, his whoring, his fighting, and his poker playing. But, in the last few books if you look real close you get the feeling that there’s a lot more to Dalton than meets the eye. He’s a thinker, he’s smart, he can read people easily, and most people underestimate him. In this book we find that most of those things are true, but we also find out why it took leaving to make him into the man he is and why he made changes in his life that most people don’t see. It’s interesting to me that the women in his life; his Mom, Rory, his cousin Sierra, and his sister in laws Jessie and Georgia see him a lot clearer than any of the men. Being the “baby” of the family he’s had a lot of people to look up to, a lot of family assumptions thrust on him, and the family “reputation” to live up to. He’s also kept a huge life altering secret from his family, something no one has even known except Rory; his childhood best friend and the woman he intends to make his forever.

Rory is kind of the unknown in this story because other than a few choice scenes in Gone Country we don’t know all that much about her. What we do know is she’s a college graduate with a Master’s degree. She grew up in an unconventional situation but not one that has stunted her emotionally or socially. We know that she can be a spoiled brat when she feels threatened, she has a vicious temper, and we know that there’s been something between her and Dalton for a while. In this book we learn she’s unsettled in her life, she’s fiercely loyal, and no matter what she says she’s been in love with Dalton most of her life. We also learn that she’s been hurt by his actions in the past and while she will back him on most everything, she isn’t convinced he’s the changed man he claims to be.

I flat out loved watching Dalton woo Rory, it was quite the sight to behold and made even better by the fact that she wasn’t buying it most of the time. He had to really work for it which I think made the story that much sweeter and the end result that much more gratifying. What surprised me is what a closet romantic Dalton is…I have to say out of all the McKay men he can make you tremble with his sweet words but he has the dirty talk down just as well and can go from one to the other in a blink of an eye which kept Rory off balance and made for some interesting moments. While he was hard to resist, I like that Rory didn’t jump every time Dalton wanted her to spend time with him.

While the developing relationship between Dalton and Rory was front and center there were many other big events going on. You can only imagine how many fences Dalton has to mend after taking off and staying gone for three years. There are new family members he’s never met, some that don’t even remember him, and there are many that were left upset, angry, and confused by his disappearance. The scenes with his brothers Brandt and Tell, his cousin Ben, his Uncle Charlie, and his Mom are so poignant that I sat paralyzed as the tears rolled down my face. There is so much I can’t say as I would NEVER want to ruin this story for anyone so I will say… be prepared, keep a box of tissues nearby and expect to use them throughout this book. While there are many tissue inducing scenes, I want to stress that there are many funny moments as well. The “pet” names that Rory spouts off to Dalton when he returns home fully bearded made me laugh out loud. Their teasing banter and life-long friendship leads to an unprecedented closeness we’ve never seen before in this series. The memories of their childhood were sweet and gave some great insight in to who they are today.

Once again Lorelei James has given us a story that will resonate with so many people; some will appreciate the story of childhood friends becoming more, some will identify with Dalton’s childhood, some will understand strained family relationships, some will sympathize with Rory’s job dissatisfaction, and most will recognize the loneliness these two felt until they admitted their absolute need for one another. Every time I pick up a new book in this series I wonder if the plot will be familiar because there are so many, but each and every time Lorelei reminds me why this series is so popular and why her fans chomp at the bit to get their hands on the next book because she always manages to surprise, overwhelm, and give us a story like no other. Redneck Romeo is just such a book and then some, I’m once again blown away by her talent and unwavering devotion to the McKay family and her fans worldwide. Thank you Lorelei for another fabulous addition to my favorite family series.

“Want you, need you, have to have you. Goddamn, woman, the way you respond to me is such a fucking turn-on.”

Over the past few months when Dalton looked at her a certain way, or placed a kiss below her ear, or ran his finger down the inside of her arm, she sensed his satisfaction. His possession. She’d chalked it up to sex. Now she saw it for what it really was. Love that went beyond anything she’d ever thought any man could feel for her, let alone this man who owned her heart, body and soul.

Holy crap. Jessie was pregnant too? Rory had considered ditching the condoms with Dalton since she was on the pill, but seeing these virile McKay males? Now she had half a mind to demand that Dalton double bag his dick— just to be safe.

While I can't say that this book was a favorite of mine, I did enjoy it thoroughly. It was a nice change-up from the typical bad boy and connesuir of vagina du jour. Dalton wanted and pursued a relationship with Rory from day one. He knew what he wanted, and he went after it.

While Dalton certainly had his wild moments of random women and bar fights in his youth, he's a different man now. He has been away from home for 3 long years and has a damn good reason for running away when he did. When he hears that his (asshole) father has suffered a stroke, he knows he has to go back to be with his family, even though the last thing he wants to do help the man that caused his family nothing but pain. What seals the deal is when he finds out that Rory is now also back and is no longer engaged. Having been in love with her for years, he knows it's now or never.

Dalton pursues Rory throughout the entire book. Having had a long history with the bad boy McKay, Rory has a hard time believing that this time he's playing for keeps. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that Dalton has wham-bam-thank-you-m'amed her, he did take her virginity in his car and then never called her. Of course there was also the fact that he left one of her good friends at the alter 3 years ago and then split.

Dalton is a cowboy with a mission, though, and works like hell to make it work with her.

While Dalton had plenty of moments where he was incredibly sweet, he definitely did not disappoint in the heat department.

He leaned across her body and whispered, “Problem?” directly in her ear.
God. That voice. The heat and weight of his body. The scent of his skin. The man could screw up her senses just by existing.
“Aurora?” he murmured.
“Why are you going so slow?”
He nuzzled the side of her neck. “Because it’s fuckin’ hot watching my cock driving in and out of you. Seeing it covered in your sweet juices, knowing what I’m doin’ to you is makin’ you hot. Makin’ you wet.”
“Dalton—”
“When it’s you and me together like this? Baby, you come first. Always.”
“So if I make myself come?”
His mouth brushed her ear. “Then I’ll fuck you like a goddamned jackhammer until you come again.”

Even though it took Rory pretty much the entire book to own up to her feelings to Dalton, it didn't irritate me as something like that usually would. I think it was due to the fact that I really like her as a character, she some sort of timid mouse. She had a dirty mouth, a quirky sense of humor, and had no problem speaking her mind.
“Right here, right now?”
“Yep.”
“Are you drunk?” she demanded. “Nope.”
Rory cocked her head. “Suppose I did spread my legs and slip my fingers into my cunt to get myself off. You’d still be hard and horny. How would you benefit?”
Dalton plucked up her hand and rubbed the tips of his fingers on his lips. “The benefit for me is that you did what I told you. You have no idea how much I love watching you come. It’s even better—” he kissed her fingertips, “— and hotter when you do it for me.”
“Dalton, the list of things I won’t do with you or to you or have you do to me is pretty short. But I draw the line at diddling myself between courses in a four-star restaurant.”

There was also some parts, particularly the conversation between Rory and her friends that had me laughing like an idiot.

“Well, even if she is sore she can’t tell him she’s sore,” Mandie said.
“Why not?” Vanessa demanded.
“Because if she complains her lady part is chafed he’ll just want anal instead,” Mandie stated. Rory choked on her drink. “I wondered if part of the reason you’re not sore after having sex seventeen freakin’ times in a week is because you were taking it up the ass.”
“Seriously, Mandie. What. The. Hell.”
“What? No butt sex for you yet?”
“No!”
“He’s gonna want it. Soon probably.” Mandie’s voice dropped to a whisper. “My advice? Lots of lube.”

All the McKays and their offspring make an appearance, though the book mainly focuses on Casper's sons, Tell, Brandt, and Dalton. I still got somewhat lost in the names, since the McKay's do like to procreate. I can't keep track of all the offspring anymore. (Good thing the author has a family tree on her website)

I did also skipped book 14 since I couldn't get into it, so it might have been a small reason for my confusion. The author does do a good job with explaining events from the previous book, without it being repetitive, so that helped a lot with remembering certain things.

It took me a bit to get into the book initially, and there were some parts that dragged for me in the middle. But right around the 70% mark, there were some revelations that had me glued to my kindle until I finished. There were things that were revealed about Dalton's history that seriously hurt my heart and made me cry.

So if you're looking for a steamy book with a sexy, jealous and possessive cowboy and a spunky heroine, I'd say you'd really enjoy this one.

So sad that this is the next-to-the-last book in the series. The final book (Cowboy Take Me Away goes back in time to where it all started--Carson McKay and Carolyn West's story).

No big review here, just some thoughts:

Adored last-single-McKay standing, Dalton. Loved how he turned his life around; hated what his s.o.b. of a father put him through. Loved how he committed himself to winning back his childhood sweetheart. Loved his sincerity and lack of game playing.

Dalton...
 photo 849f4ada-b74b-4abf-aaf4-208f793255c3_zps98375102.jpg

Loved how his brothers finally came around and stood solidly behind him.

I didn't always like his lady-love, childhood friend Rory. How she thought she could resist Dalton and just use him as her sexual plaything (without falling for him, was beyond me). Many times I screamed at her (in my mind) "Tell him you love him!"

The sex between Rory and Dalton was hot, but...at times I thought maybe there was too much of it...

Loved catching up on all the other McKays, but OMG, how they reproduce!

Loved how certain parts of the story got me all teary-eyed (when Dalton finally revealed to his brothers and Rory the conversation with his father that drove him away from his family for 3 years.)

 photo 6814c19e-ffc1-4722-bef7-80c54b525404_zps3d95f13f.jpg

Loved the banter between Rory and Dalton. Loved how they teased and baited each other, and the way they communicated. You could tell that these two had a long standing friendship, and that always makes for a more convincing (to me) love life.

As far as this series goes? There was only one book that I wasn't that impressed with (Cowboy Casanova)--all others were 4 or 5 stars and many were keepers. The Rough Riders series has to be hands down my favorite erotic series. So consistent, such superb storytelling, and smokin' hot sex scenes to boot. Why does it have to end? There's a whole nother generation of McKays (what about Kyler?) just waiting to have their stories told--perhaps Ms. James can spin them off into their own series in a few years??

If you like hot cowboys, smokin' chemistry between the H/h, and some good storytellin'--and you haven't tried this series--what are you waiting for? 4 1/2 stars

Lorelei James makes it look so easy. Her books are beautifully written, her characters so charmingly developed, and her stories are just intense, with no gaps or mistakes. Redneck Romeo, the fifteenth in a series, is my favorite, no question. They just get better and better.

Dalton and his story contained surprises, good ones and awful ones. I can’t even use my favorite quote here because it is a spoiler. And I have no idea whether this book can stand alone but I am pretty sure it is better read as part of the series. The thing that I loved most about this book was it was not just Dalton’s story, it was the McKays’ story. Lorelei is getting ready to wrap up this series and as one of her long-time fans I am tickled to death that she didn’t leave everything to the last book.

Redneck Romeo is a long novel, make no mistake, but there isn’t one single excess word in it. I read it carefully – no skimming this one for me. I adored Dalton for his romantic love for Rory. They are a great couple. If you loved Cord and AJ's story (Cowgirl Up and Ride) because of their lifelong romance you are going to be over the moon with Dalton and Rory.

I laughed out loud, sometimes when I was reading alone, sometimes when I was reading with others nearby so they wanted to know what was so funny. There’s a LOT of sheet-scorching sex in this book so I couldn’t always tell them with kids around. Hee hee. That made me laugh even more. But there were hints of a dark story pounding all the way through the book, and when that story finally surfaced in it's horrific entirety I sobbed. I didn’t just tear up. I cried, for Dalton, for his brothers, but mostly for Dalton. It will take me a while to adjust to the fact that this is fiction because I’m still grieving for what happened.

There is an epilogue that together with the prologue ties this book up with a bow like a beautifully wrapped package. If you did not pre-order Redneck Romeo, get yourself to your favorite online bookstore and get a copy immediately. It is just… perfect.

Great new addition to the Rough Riders series.

Dalton McKay sure has grown up since we've seen him last. He is no longer the immature, love em and leave em, fighting, cowboy we once new. No Dalton has matured into a funny, loving, knows what he wants and is gonna get it, well sculpted, knock you off you feet, and make your panties drop, sex-on-a-stick cowboy and he's all McKay!!

We've seen bits and pieces of Rory in Gone Country and I really liked and enjoyed reading about her. She know where she is in the world and just who she is. No playing games with this chick.

There's a little bit of laughter, a little bit of sadness, some moments that make you wanna scream, and a lot of sweet talkin' McKay style, love makin' going on in this one.

While I enjoyed this tremendously more than Gone Country, I have to say Rory ruined this book for me. I totally got where she was coming from, even understood it at times, but in my opinion she led Dalton on throughout the entirety of the book.

Dalton is a great guy who's made some mistakes in his past, including one hurtful one, but he's matured and made a life for himself and knows what he wants. He's open and upfront and honest from the beginning, but Rory never lets him forget the past, constantly throwing it up in his face. Honestly I don't know why he didn't just cut his losses and move on.

What did I like about Rory? Pretty much nothing. She did FINALLY step up and do the right thing in the very last chapter, but for me it was too little too late.

There's also some heart-rending backstory for Dalton involving his father Casper and that made me cry. If you're a fan of the series, it's not a good cry in any way, other than when Dalton finally steps out and discusses it with his brothers and Mother.

Overall, I'm giving this a 3.75 rating because the writing is stellar, the story kept me reading and the characters are like old friends. Deducting simply because Rory's antagonistic and crass behavior took away a little enjoyment from the storyline. Dalton deserved better.

What an end for the McKays! I don't really know where to start...

Dalton's story was so very different from what I thought it would be. He has done a lot of growing up and soul searching since we last saw him and it was nice to see a McKay that wasn't always the suave lover! Rory took a little for me to get used to because I wasn't such a fan of hers in Gone Country, but I loved their connection (and the sex between them wasn't bad at all!)

Part of the reason I love this series is the relationships between siblings/cousins/parents etc...and this was no different. I was so glad there was a resolution with Casper - and it is appropriate that Dalton's story was the last since he was the most affected by Casper of all the boys.

Overall a solid 5 star read. I don't know if there are more RR books planned - but I hope Sierra and Boone will get a book and maybe the West boys??

I think this series has definitely changed over the years, and the stories involving Casper's sons have been the angstiest. This book was heart-breaking in places and I cried a little at the bile that Casper spewed towards his children. I didn't realize the groundwork laid for this book until I started reading it; I cared so much about this story because Dalton has been in previous tales.

Was it everything I hoped for? Well, Dalton was more than I hoped for. He was hell-bent on getting Rory to acknowledge that he had changed and that they were perfect to each other. He gave her everything but I can't say she did the same. She wasn't everything that I wanted for Dalton and, although I knew that he had brought on his behavior with his past behaviors towards her, as I heard more of his past story, I couldn't help but be really hacked off by her attitude towards him. I wanted her to be as open with him as he was with her but, whilst he was still hiding the real reason that he left town, I knew she wasn't going to be.

This is the second to last book in the series and I can't believe its all coming to an end. This tale incorporated most of the McKay's and I was so happy to see Kyler as a teenager, carrying on the McKay love for the ladies :) Colby still pissed me off and Gavin cemented his place in my heart; this was a book you should not read without having read the rest in the series as, although the main tale is the standalone, you won't understand the family dynamics without having seen them develop over the course of the series.

This was a sexy, emotional tale of a emotionally broken man finding his happiness with the woman of his dreams. I loved it.

Absolutely, hands-down, my FAVORITE ROUGH RIDERS of the series! I loved this story SO MUCH. I had a feeling I was going to love reading about Dalton after he pulled that intervention on Ben in Cowboy Casanova and boy, did I ever. WOW. What a story! This one, to me, does not at ALL follow the typical RR formula. He knows he wants Rory from the beginning and does not for one second falter in that pursuit. And OMG, the romance. Redneck Romeo is RIGHT. He is so incredibly romantic and sweet and charming and funny and caring...and considering his history, it's pretty hard to believe but he really wants his HEA and never has a doubt who he wants it with. Yeah, he had his d-bag moments...but unlike the OTHER ones, these occurred when he was young and stupid...and he admits them loud and clear and frequently. The back story with his family was absolutely heart-breaking. I think what I loved the best about these stories (and I'm so sad that there's not other one to read...yet) is how you get to know each branch of the McKay dynasty and what's going on in each individual family. It's just an amazing series. I love Dalton. Never thunk it, but I think Dalton is my FAVORITEST MCKAY! And how COOL is it that this story fast-forwards six years from the last one...and recaps what's going on with everyone? Of course, it's kids, kids and more kids, which is fine because that gives LJ more McKay hotties to write about!

Don't throw tomatoes at me, but I didn't love this one as much as I love the rest of this series. Dalton - total sweetheart, bad boy that you just adore like all of James' leading men, but I wasn't a fan of Rory. I didn't particularly like her as a character in Gavin's book when he ended up with Rory's mom, and she didn't redeem herself for me in this book. I can't get over how she handled the job interview situation. I don't care what all your boyfriend is dealing with, you don't lie to him about having a week long work trip when you're really interviewing for a job out of state. That's just unacceptable behavior for a serious relationship where you imagine a future with the guy.

In my opinion, one of the sweetest - and that's saying a lot! - scenes that James' has ever written happened at the beginning of this book. When Rory tells Dalton that she needs 5 dates with him before she'll consider it a relationship and he starts naming times that he's kissed her starting back when they were 10 and 12 years old, my heart melted. This gambling, bad boy is a total romantic! This and Dalton's re-bonding with his brothers at the end were easily my favorite parts of the book.

The title, REDNECK ROMEO kind of makes me chuckle, but the main man; Dalton McKay is no laughing matter, he is sex personified.

‘I might’ve dozed off in that puffy bed, which is heavenly by the way.’

‘Which is ironic since we’re gonna sin like motherfuckers in it.’

Okay! I am totally down with sinning!

Dalton McKay has a bad reputation and he’s a bit devilish when it comes to women. He’s great for a one-night stand, but not the one you should go to when you are looking for forever, unless your name is Rory Wetzler. Old habits die hard – or at least that is what everyone who knows Dalton McKay thinks, but he’s a changed man and he has his work cut out for him to prove that to his family, his friends and most of all, the woman he wants to love for the rest of his life.

So, if you have read any of Lorelei James’ other books in the ROUGH RIDERS series, then you already know you are in for a treat. The rowdy McKay clan oozes raw sex appeal that makes you want to lick them up and down, rough edges and all. The entire gang makes my mouth water and always leaves me panting for more. Although the McKays as a whole are pretty wicked with their words, few have secured a coveted spot on my dirty talker list, but GUESS WHAT?? Dalton McKay has landed spot #8 on my very exclusive list of “Dirty Talkin’” heroes. Here’s a bit of what you all have to look forward to…

Dalton made that growling noise. “How long you been walkin’ around wearing that outfit?”

“Some. Why?”

“Because you are smokin’ hot. Jesus, woman. You’re making me lose my train of thought.”

“Maybe this will get it back on track.” She placed an openmouthed kiss on his neck above his shirt collar. “Get your winnings so you can buy me dinner. I’m starved.”

“I’ll feed you. Then I’ll fuck you.”

Obviously Dalton didn’t care that anyone within earshot could hear him.

Rory brushed the front of her body against his. “You’re hard.”

“Fuckin’ right I’m hard. Winning always gets me hard. Add in the fact you’re here with me? Lookin’ like sex on legs? This hard-on ain’t goin’ away until I fuck you at least twice.”

Yeah, Dalton made it on that list for a reason, so don’t deny yourself the pleasure of experiencing all the wicked words he weaves into sexy sentences – trust me, you will not be disappointed.

It's no secret I absolutely adore a Lorelei James book, especially when it comes to the McKay's. I was not disappointed in this one at all.

Dalton is a loveable guy who is completely misunderstood. I felt sorry for all the trials he had to endure and how misunderstood he was. I especially felt sorry for him because the one person he loved continued to believe he was someone other than he was. Rory was not the heroine I had hoped her to be. She was stubborn and childish. I know she's supposed to be late twenties, but she behaved like she was younger. She used his past against him and she hid important things from him. <*spoiler*>I mean, what adult would hide the fact that she was applying to jobs and interviewing out of town/state just because she wanted to hit him with it and see if he really had changed and would choose her.<*/spoiler*> I really wanted to see his love reciprocated better.

I couldn't believe the turmoil Casper is still wreaking on his children. The things you uncover in this book will make you angry, hurt and sad. At one point, I wanted to track his butt down and give him a good tongue lashing for the things he did. Then I wanted to find Dalton, Brandt and Tell and give them all a big hug for having such a horrible father.

I'm desperately looking forward to Book 16, which will be the last in the series (Fingers crossed its Sierra and Boone). Thank goodness we'll be getting the West stories. Lorelie mentioned in an interview that Chet and Remy's story will be released in December 2013. It will help ease the loss of the delicious, swoon-worthy McKay boys!

I have been following the McKay / West family for a long while. Well fifteen books as of this one. I have my favorite characters and favorite books, as well as those I am not particularly fond of. I have an expectation when reading these stories and I was afraid I would be bored with them by now.

I almost put this one aside. I knew this was the last McKay to tame, I knew the history with Dalton and Rory for the most part. I even figured out what our major conflict was going to be early on (Pretty sure we were supposed to figure that one out) What I did not expect was the way this book subtly wrapped up the Casper McKay storyline while giving us Dalton's story and bringing depth to the family dynamics of that particular branch of the McKays. We got to revisit many of the McKay men and their families from previous books and got a glimpse of their lives now. I have to say I loved the last third of the book most of all. I was very pleased with how the story developed and pleasantly surprised that I found myself connecting with Rory and Dalton, who I had not been fond of in the past.

I am not sure where Ms James plans on going from here. We have been introduced to yet another generation in the last couple of books and I was left wanting to know what happens with these young McKay/West kids as they grow up. What ever happens, I know I will be there to find out.

Wow. I loved this book. Love the series. Kind of sad see it end. Yes, it was like the others in the series, but the storyline was good. Casper was always the dickhead, but wow, he was really below the lower than dirt line. No pun intended.

Dalton, the last single wild McKay male. Rory, wow, it's been years. She's finished college w/a degree, trying to find what she really wants to do in life w/her degree. Sierra, all grown up and actually stays in touch w/Dalton. So a family issue brings Dalton back home to Sundance and a personal issue brings Rory back home. In the process Sierra tells Dalton that Rory is back home and he's been waiting for this for 3 years.

He's changed -- for the better. He's always loved Rory, but not like today. He's going to prove that he's changed to Rory and that he wants more than just "love 'em, and leave 'em." Rory is skeptical, and so she should be!

This book is fun, and hot-hot-hot!! I love the fact that Rory has no issues telling Dalton how she loves his body and what it does to her when she's looking at him. Dalton is beyond HOT and tells it like it is from his side.

This may not be the best review, but I'm trying not to give away anything if you haven't read the book. Sex is -- OMG. I love Rory's aggressiveness w/sex. The girl wants what she wants!

I just hope we see something from Lorelei about Sierra and Boone!

5+ Stars!

I absolutely loved this book! The premise was perfect and Dalton McKay was just the type of redeeming hero I adore. The romance felt realistic and was perfectly paced since Dalton and Rory had such a trying history. I was a bit surprised when I first read the prologue but it was a great move that literally changed Dalton as a person/character. Let me just say the family aspect was spot on and terrifically done by LJ. I loved those scenes and in the Ben/Dalton scene you can see the change in Dalton which is in my opinion written perfectly. Simply put, Dalton grew up.

It's an end of an era but I just have to say I would kill for more McKay books and there are bunches of them. *hint hint* Lastly, I loved seeing the rest of the McKays and I sincerely hope this isn't the last of them just yet.

This cover is scrumptious!

4.5 Stars but I'm bumping it up to 5

I really really don't want this series to end. Kyler (Cord & A.Js oldest)...is growing up quick. He's already driving! Maybe we'll see a new series with the next generation of McKays! *wishful thinking...maybe*

Anyway, back to Dalton! He's not the guy we all thought he was, there's more to him than fightin', drinkin, gamblin' & man-whorin' around. He's had time to put his life in perspective and figure out some really important things about himself.

This book had some pretty serious issues that were dealt with but it still managed to have the rough riders 'hotness' factor and bit of funny tossed in.

Is it just me or this was one of the more emotional books in this series?

Not your regular rodeo McKays but your more vulnerable stripped down raw and rebuilt anew. What a heartbreaking childhood Dalton had. His constant anchor from childhood, Rory, was his saving grace. His damaged self esteem, loathing and doubt took him away just to face his demons again.

My heart ached seeing cowboys hurt for their loved ones let alone Brandt and Tell. When they said blood is thicker than water, they were referring to the McKays.

What happened when who you thought you were in question?
What happened when hatred and pain were your companion?
What happened when you're the blacksheep among the infamous McKays?

... You became Dalton and fight...

This book was a surprise for me. I had a expectation for Dalton and even though I was excited I was expecting not to love it as much as I do the others, I've got to say I absolutely loved it. The Dalton you know from other RR book isn't the same character he's totally changed for the better.
I love that he's a romantic and does show Rory at every opportunity.
I could understand Rory holding back when she's be burned by him many times.
I really liked that Rory didn't compromise her career choices for Dalton and even though Dalton could muddle her him and body she kept true to what she needs to be happy.
Can not wait for Sierra and Boone story. Great HEA.

I loved Dalton! The wounded good guy who falls hard is one of my favorite heroes. The twist here, he's fallen from the beginning and he is just trying to prove his sincerity. Rory, had been burned before and she doesn't want to go through it again and yet, she can't resist her first love. Their story was so sweet! This book made me feel good and I was sorry to finish it, even though I stayed up way too late to that.

I'm a huge fan of the rough riders series. I liked this book a lot but I didn't love it!!!! I don't know why exactly. I expected something more from the hero and Heroine. Anyway it is still a really good book. I am DYING to read about Boone and Sierra.... Please please tell me there is a book about them!!!!!

6,000 locations: only about one third plot; more than a third comprised of boring, repetitive, dramatic sex and other filler; the remainder was needed to list all seven billion members of the McKay family and their offspring.
