Bu Rita neden bu kadar kararsız??? Biraz sinirleniyorum. Tabii kurgunun devam etmesi açısından onun kararsız olması gerek ama gerçek hayatta bu tip biri gerçekten çok fazla sinir bozucu olur. Kızımız iyi dayanıyor.
"Don't worry! I'll be there for you even if you are!!"
I think these quotes PERFECTLY wrap up the series (at least thus far) because while I have LOVED this series thus far, this volume was a hard one.
Not because it was bad!
But because of the horrible choices that are being made. *nervous laughter*
I came in expecting Hatori to TRY and be a proper heroine, and while I give her an A for effort (because she really did give her all LOL), she still falls VERY short. This of course makes for plenty of shenanigans, but man, some of her choices were wayyyyy too out there for me.
However, I DO commend her for telling Adachi that SHE should be getting upset that some girl is trying to steal Rita from them on the camping trip and that Adachi NEEDS to stand up and step in. I get that she's confident in their time together and that Rita most likely won't break up with her, but I really thought (at that moment) that Hatori was in the right because I don't get how Adachi could let things slide. Granted, I know I'm not the best at confrontation, but I think that despite all Hatori's delusions and not the best of the decisions, that was one of her better moments in this volume. She was definitely acting more like a girlfriend than Adachi was, and Hatori isn't even Rita's actual girlfriend!
I was bummed we didn't see more of Hiromitsu considering he's on the cover. I appreciate how he says things how they are, especially in regard to Rita. That was a GREAT conversation! Well, if it can even be called a conversation. LOL!
I REALLY liked the events that happen after that even though I feel conflicted about liking it considering everything that is happening and how it looks. I'm pretty confident I'm going to read the next volume, but this volume definitely left me feeling more conflicted than previous volumes, especially since Hatori WANTS Rita to become a worse person so they can be together. *nervous laughter*
Last thing, I LOVE the art! The expressions are so hilarious that it easily carries this volume because I never know what kind of outlandish expression Hatori will make!
I gave up on wanting this series to be good. It's a dumpster fire full of teenagers being messy. There's so much bad decision making in this volume that it's enough to make you tear your hair out. Unfortunately, it's the kind of bad that's impossible to look away from and I'm committed to seeing it through.
Rita has so many girls falling all over him. There's his girlfriend Adachi, and always Hatori, of course, and in this volume, an new rival--Hiromitsu's cousin, Kou--steps in. She's a type I've seen before in at least one other manga: the girl who chases after guys who already have girlfriends.
One piece of dialogue did a better job of explaining what might motivate a girl to do that than I've seen thus far in shoujo manga: in summary, she knows that the guy's already been "vetted." It's understandable, I suppose, but not all that excusable. I really liked the arc that featured Kou. She tweaks Hatori on her hypocrisies, and points out that her motivations are selfish. And there are so many of Hatori's absurd facial expressions, which make me chuckle every time.
In the second half of the book, Adachi takes a trip to Mexico on a humanitarian mission to aid street children.* Hatori decides she's going to ignore Rita all through summer break until the fireworks at the festival. With Nakajima's help, she manages it. Once they get together at the festival, Rita succumbs to using Hatori as a relief from the loneliness he's been feeling in Adachi's absence, and their time at the festival is much like a date, and ends with a kiss. Turmoil! Again! We see a tiny bit more depth in Rita's character here, as he inches closer to recognizing what a scumbag he is and has been.
*(I think that's what it is? she goes with a reporter, so I really hope it isn't just witnessing them and leaving it at that. The manga doesn't go into details about it.)
I finally gave one of Momoko Koda's manga four stars. I can easily see (and have seen, through their reviews) other readers not responding well to this manga, and My Special One, because the leads are pretty annoying. I don't know, I've seen so many shoujo comedies with lovable leads, that having one with a not-so-lovable lead feels fresh.
And I even feel for her, sometimes. Hatori has a couple of poignant scenes here (the ridiculous facial expressions abated during these scenes, which to me indicates that they were intended to be taken a bit more seriously than Hatori's usual). Her and Rita's very rare moments of self-awareness don't lead to a lot of self-reflection, so they inevitably go right back to where they started, no smarter and no wiser. I've seen real humans and their recidivism in action many times, so that's at least as convincing as "character development" is, to me.
Nakajima and Hiromitsu are the Greek chorus-like characters that you often see in manga, but in this case, they're there to either vainly attempt to rein in Hatori's foolishness (Nakajima) or tease her and/or ironically comment on it (Hiromitsu). I also think that Hiromitsu would date Hatori in a flash if she could open up a tiny corner of her heart to someone besides Rita.
Koda's autobiographical mini-comic at the end of the volume, where she and her assistant are completely oblivious about the geography of their own country, Japan, made me laugh out loud. I can easily see that her personal quirks are coming out in her manga, and that is always fun to see. I think Koda would be a hoot to hang out with. :)
Hatori is obsessed with Rita. Rita leads her on, intentionally this time too… And then switches back to Adachi when he feels guilty for cheating… UGH WHATEVER. I’m sick of Hatori simping hardcore for Rita. I want to read more to see if she gets better but I doubt it.
That’s it. I officially hate the male lead. I hope he feels guilty enough to dig a hole, crawl into it and die. As for the female lead, I don’t even know. Still waiting for her character development
I really like this series because it makes me laugh so much! Also, because I honestly can't quite guess what's going to happen next. Like that ending was pretty confusing to me....(in a good way; I cant wait to read the next volume!)
