back on my art book grind - this one was a bit underwhelming in the scope of what it covered, but still had some solidly decent tips (especially about rigging your block and prints for reduction prints) and was an informative read! good to check out if you have zero experience with linocut and don't know where to begin.

Good beginner guide

If you're just started printing this is the book for you - the supplies are readily available without having to spend too much money and the results can be as complicated or a simple as you choose. The step-by-step instructions are clear and the photos illustrate the process very well.

Detailed instructions for image transfer, block carving, tool selection, inking plates, printing, and tearing paper. Pretty much all you need to know!

The least detailed of the books on block printing that I've read. Some really great photos, and it covers the basics. But many other books are better.

It is written and illustrated well with clear, simple instructions. It is not meant to go beyond that basic introductory task, and yet I did find some steps involved not as fully explained as I might want or need. The jig used for carving wood blocks is an example. Perhaps I need to go back and reread that section again. I did tend to skip through it more quickly since I intend to begin with linoleum block cutting.

This nonfiction how-to book includes the process, set up, and materials as well as how one artist created a multi-color print using one design. Block print making is a complex activity, but with these kinds of tips things are more readily understood. Although the book is slimmer it still is worth the read for these extra tips. Book includes many illustrations that helped me with decisions of my own as a block print artist.

Great photos of basics. Registration was covered well, oh, and papers to use was great, informative page (22). The point was made that papers are torn, not scissored/cut in printmaking. Also large margins are traditionally employed, around 3-4” around the print. Helpfully and clearly communicated.
I skimmed the chapters on wood, since I’m a lino cutter currently. The examples in back are terrific.

Good overview for the very basics of block printing, with a focus on linoleum.

Though only 90 pages long, including the resources page, it had some good ideas I'd like to remember. I'm considering adding a copy to my personal library since this copy was borrowed from the #PPLD

This is a very straightforward basic introduction to the craft. The pictures and instructions are easy to follow. It makes me think I could do this.
