Lillian McGraw stole files, folders, discs, VHS’s videos, CD’s and money undetected from her employer’s mansion where she lived and then she disappeared.
Mariah O’Leary is an attorney and a stunning beauty who works out of what most would call a sleazy bar. A man named Jones enters, wants to hire her for a friend, thinks she’s desolate from her appearance, semi-illiterate by the way she speaks but finally arranges a meeting with her with his employer.
When she arrives at the home of Mr. Jonathan P. Kennington, JP, in Bel Air, California he is surprised and thinks Jones needs some retraining realizing his assessment of Mariah was more than just way off base. She is well dressed in a business suit, speaks English correctly and has a moral sense and ethics. JP wants to hire her to find Lillian McGraw his confidential secretary. He realizes Mariah is no one to trifle with and is capable of handling his case and her fee schedule is as we say non-negotiable along with her terms.
As Mariah questions Kennington, she realizes he is keeping more than just some facts from her. But, Mariah is astute and realizes there is much more behind the disappearance and the reasons he wants Lillian found.
Lillian has in her possession documents and information that could create a nuclear explosion in political terms and bring down the president and Kennington, too. Sean, the president’s son, and Lillian are together, lovers and in hiding. They want to bring down Kennington. What better way to get revenge than creating a plan to hit this billionaire right where you know it will hurt the most? Lillian is smart and resourceful and her plan so clever and diabolical Kennington will never see it coming. So, how will she pull it off and what part will our lawyer, Mariah O’Leary, play since she is already working for the other side?
Requested by the president to find his son, Mariah manages to charge him quite a bit of money in order to obtain her services. Not because she needs the money, but because she does work for the poor who cannot pay.
The president and his friend JP have created a diabolical plot that would not only destroy the credibility of the United States if found out but would kill innocent black Americans, because they are poor and believe they do not deserve to live. What would happen if the government asked a chemical company to create an odorless poison to eliminate many and blamed it on a country of their choice in order to create a war?
Lillian and Sean hire Mariah after she located them which terminated her agreements with JP and the president. Lillian shows Mariah the War Plan that the president and JP signed. She embarks on a quest for justice. Giving the president an ultimatum and a way out does not work as he puts another plan in motion hoping to eliminate anyone in his way. But, Mariah and Greg, the owner of Raymond’s Bar where she offices, sees it coming. Their plan will definitely let you know who is in charge and just might come out ahead. Tough, clever, resourceful and quite sassy, Mariah leaves no stone unturned as the reader gets a deeper understanding of what it would mean if the president succeeds in creating what you might call a One World Order.
The corruption goes up high and the end result would be killing defenseless-black Americans, blame it on the Muslims, unite the Christians, create a war against Islam and the Anti-Christ. With the help of his loyal or really not so loyal staff the president thinks he can pull this off. But, who can he really trust and just how far will Mariah be able to go to stop him? The meeting with JP set in motion another part of her plan as he tried to coerce her into working for him and taking Lillian’s place. To learn about that meeting you will have to read it for yourself. What happens next will definitely not endear you to the president, vice president, his staff or his moral sense as he plans to move ahead with his War Plan and so does JP.
The conspiracy is far from over as more lives are lost, threats are made, kidnappings occur and both sides seem to be relentless. Sean and Lillian learn a long and hard lesson. Sean is kidnapped and those responsible would learn a whole lot more about what happens when you cross this lawyer and go against the grain of what our country stands for. A president, vice president and many others are in it only for the money and power. Against them are one lawyer and her friends whom hope to stop them cold. But, can she do it before anyone else pays the ultimate price?
As the pieces for Operation Downfall come into place and some of the players sink before they can win their battles, with Mariah’s help Lillian gains control of the Kennington companies. Some arrests are made but the major players have yet to be foiled. Just how this all comes together and what happens you won’t believe as Mariah, one smart lawyer, and a computer-savvy Lillian go after the president, vice president and others to make sure that War is just a three-letter word and no more. The final outcome and end result cannot be revealed, as they are the work and creative planning of one innovative author named Daniel McNeet. As the author brings to light what happens when money rules the roost, overpowers your life, and greed becomes your own personal vow and goal. You never know what might happen or when and where you just might fall prey to those capable of creating your downfall!
An ending so explosive you won’t see it coming and neither will those who think they are going to get away with it. One smart lawyer, some very powerful people and a group of corrupt politicians, corrupticians, all vying for the same thing: running the government of the United States. Mariah trying to eliminate the guilty, the treasonous and the corrupt others whom are just wanting to rule in the style of one man who killed so many in Germany and created his own dictatorship. Operation Downfall should teach the corrupt what happens when Mariah O’Leary, Greg, a former special operations officer, and Jerry Spencer, a former CIA field officer and the most decorated, and their teams decide your fate.
One interesting story, one unique ending and one lawyer who has the tenacity so many wish they did. Let’s see if the author brings her back for more and find out who would dare cross paths with her.

Daniel McNeet has created quite the web of intrigue, corruption, deceit, and politics. There are so many twists and turns that you'll be surprised at every corner. At times, you'll be shocked. The beautiful Mariah O'Leary is hired by her old college friend, the President of the United States, to find his son at the same time she is hired by an industrialist to find his missing secretary. Immediately after, she is hired by the son and secretary, who are lovers, to protect and stop secret plans the industrialist and President have put together. They want to murder thousands of poor, black people and blame it on terrorists. They want to go to war with Iran to gain access to their oil. The ring leader behind all of this is the Vice President, and his consortium of oil barons, who want the President killed. There is incest, kidnapping, murder. All the things you expect from corrupt politicians. Or as Mariah calls them, corrupticians. She is a very smart, very strong women. She mostly works in the ghetto, helping those who can't afford representation any other way. She is such a good person, you want her to win. She has by her side a bunch of ex CIA and ex-Special Forces clandestine operatives, who will do as she asks, no matter when, without questions. Can they turn the war plan upside down and make it fail? This is one of the best political thrillers I have read in a long time. It's a page turner. You hate the bad guys and cheer for the good guys. As a geek, the technology was exciting. The various ways murder was committed were very interesting. It's not your run of the mill shoot & kill. I'm very much looking forward to more of Mariah O'Leary. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes complex political thrillers.

I received this book through LibraryThing Member Giveaway.

This is not your typical good guys vs. bad guys thriller novel. More like bad guys vs. worse guys.
To call Mariah O'Leary a heroine, is abit of a stretch. Yes, she is trying to stop the President and his cohorts from killing innocent Americans and start a war for their own financial gain. Yes,she is wanting to expose corrupt politicians and businessmen. but she is involved in so many illegal activities herself, along with her friends.
They kill people, then dispose of the bodies. They illegally tap phones and hack computers. When a man is caught having oral sex with a 13 year old boy, do they turn him in? No, they videotape him and use it to blackmail him. This is our so-called heroine? Sorry, not in my world!!

The Harrison/Kennington family dynamic is too much to take. Victoria is Lillian's mother and sister. Sean is Lillian's brother and uncle AND LOVER, even after they know of the family ties.......ewwww!

At times I felt that the author thinks his readers are stupid, and need things to be either repeated over and over or explained. (Such as....."Meals Ready to Eat, or MREs", "Eisenhower Executive Office Building, or EEOB", "A vest filled with eider down, the mottled brown feathers from the female eider duck")
O'Leary's dialogue at times is cheesy and unbelievable.
Everyone seems to bring hidden ditigal recorders to private meetings, but nobody ever thinks to frisk each other before talking.
The author used this book to voice his political opinion of W.'s administration , and the war they began. He put them down over and over and over.

As an European citizen living in Sweden and Switzerland, I shall present this book on my homepage of my own company. It is a well written, a clear and not over-loaded story which describes reality in form of a fiction novel. The language is superbe.
Daniel McNeet is an extraordinary person, thinking, researching, reflecting, meditative, modest but telling the truth about frightening realities on this planet.
I had the idea that such behaviour Daniel describes in his book only is a part of the Russian tradition or any other totalitary regime. But it is not.
I got another picture of the United States, sadly enough.
People driven by greed are polluting the former greatness of America. The truth is that the U.S. has lost its image as the leading and formative country in the world.
Europe is experiencing a deep crisis and the U.S. is no longer the powerful friend in our minds.
Daniel McNeet helps to open the eyes of his compatriots.
I hope that leading person take time to read his book.

Wow, what a really great book! I really liked a lot about this book. First, the characters were really interesting. They were flushed out really well, so I got to feel like I knew them pretty well - that is until I discovered I didn't know them at all!

That was the other great thing about this book - the twists! Really, I don't know if I've read a book with so many great things to keep you guessing. It was a really great book overall and I've already lent it to a friend. It's that type of book - the type you want to give to your friend and make them read it, just so you can talk about it together.
