Finley Brooks dreams about a life complete with a happily ever after like those set between the pages of a romance novel. With her cousin getting married in the small town of Sunrise Beach, it seems like the perfect setting for her own story to unfold. The only issue? She doesn’t have a date. Her ex-boyfriend, Jesse, asks for another chance at being her guest. Finley abruptly declines, making up the lie that she already has one. Enter Cole Baxter, Finley’s lifelong friend and next-door neighbor. Desperate for an excuse to fulfill her lie and to help ward off questions from her family, she asks Cole to come along. Hesitantly, he agrees to be her fake boyfriend. As they’re attempting to make their relationship believable by holding hands and going on “dates”, competitions between the bride and groom’s families are in full swing. To make matters worse, nothing is going as planned. The smoke alarm has gone haywire and drama with Jesse is far from settled. Among everything else that shouldn’t be happening, could it be that Finley is beginning to fall for Cole? In Head Over Broken Heels, you’ll experience family fun, a grand manor, an ethereal wedding, broken rules, dancing in a diner, and a relationship that is completely for show… because the number one rule in fake dating is to keep things fake.

Finished this book in two days! Such an easy read and what I call a “palette cleanser” when you just want something fun and lighthearted. Will definitely be reading her other book she’s published.

Today, I am very excited to talk about the book I have recently read, Head Over Broken Heels, by Haley Brown. This book grasps you from the beginning so well, it’s very difficult to put down.

She slowly gets the picture. Feeling like she is going to throw up, she uncomfortably comes face-to-face with her ex. She realizes he’s here to win her back by nosing his way into her supposedly “fake relationship”. With him aggressively trying to win the conversation, he gets a little too serious by punching her fake boyfriend square in the jaw. All these feelings send her over the top, leaving her feeling one thing. Misery.

Romance fanatic Finley Brooks: A blonde, newly single girl looking for her happily ever after just like the stories. Her goal: Make sure her family doesn’t find out about her new breakup. To cover up the sensitive topic, she asks the boy next door, Cole Baxter, to be her “fake boyfriend” for her cousin’s wedding week.

What she wants is to avoid getting interrogated by her gossip-loving family and forget about the regretful relationship she experienced. With the fresh hole her ex made in her heart, she tries to fill that gap by acting like she is in a real relationship. With this new idea in play, she is somewhat able to forget the past, a little too well.
Alas, FInley starts denying the fact that she is slowly falling in love with Cole. With them holding hands, going on “dates” (one of which was the best one she has ever been on) and being romantically carried into the ocean, it slowly becomes a little too real for her. She has to battle with these feelings: trying to keep it professional between the two of them, but making it look realistic to her family.

As Finley is trying to navigate her relationship with Cole, she realizes that he was always there through the good and bad times, but she never really put that into perspective until then. Even though they had a “relationship” during that week, she notices that they actually had a relationship their whole lives.

Like Finley’s experience, our feelings are usually what drive our decisions. They help us see different perspectives and decide what will happen in the future. Finley and Cole have to battle with the feelings that they have. Deciding whether they’re true, or if it’s all part of the fake dating show.

This book was personally, one of the best books I have ever read. It truly taught me how to appreciate the things I have now, and how I shouldn’t take them for granted. I am so very thankful that I was able to read this book, and definitely recommend it to those who are looking for a little romance twist.

I started this book a couple months ago when I first ordered it but then I got distracted by ACOTAR… BUT I saw it on my shelf today and just had to pick it up again (started it over) and DEVOURED this book. It had everything I could ever ask for in a YA rom-com. There was boy-next-door, FAKE DATING (please and thank you), and just the cutest scenes. HALEY YOU DID IT AGAIN. this book was so cute cant wait for HB3. ALSO i love love lovedddd all of the taylor swift songs and references

This book was so well written - I loved the conversational writing style and the details. I’m usually not a fan of fake dating but this was done nicely and wasn’t in your face. Highly recommend this Indie read!

4.25 ⭐️
This was such a fun reading experience. From the playlists to the cute drawings inside (that I’m SO coloring later) to the incredibly cute romance I just read.

The reason why it’s not a 5⭐️ is because this book had a lot of telling me what was going to happen but not enough showing. There were so many scenes that we rushed through or we only saw snippets of that were discussed earlier in the book.

I loved Finley and Cole. This was just a fun beach read. I read it on the beach and it just really fit the vibe 🌊

Haley Brown, I will now be buying and reading your other books 🫶

Where do I begin with this masterpiece of a romcom book?
Haley wrote an absolutely incredible romcom that needs to be adapted into a movie immediately! Finley is the most relatable lead for all of us hopeless romantic bookworms and Cole is a dream of a love interest. This book made me feel so seen with Finley’s own personal arc of thinking that happiness in relationships is temporary and finding herself. Easily, I got very invested into the story with the plot twists and clean vibes. If you’re a fake dating trope fan and love summery romcoms, I highly highly recommend this book!

Head Over Broken Heels is now going to be one of my go to books. It will always remind me to never give up on my happily ever after. The large family dynamic is very relatable (especially with them being spread all over the place) as I also have a relatively large family. The idea of a friends to lovers is something that has and will continue to happen in real life. This story really revived my idea that true happiness can be found. This is an amazing book for all ages and especially for anyone who is going through a hard time or just needs a little happy.

Head Over Broken Heels was such a cute reading and is definitely the perfect summer read with all the summery, beachy vibes!

Finley & Cole have been friends since birth due to their parents being best friends & next door neighbors. Months before her cousins wedding, she finds her boyfriend kissing another girl... And then days before she is set off to go to her cousins wedding, her ex asks if he is still invited to go. Like what? 1. We Are Never Ever Never Getting Back Together and 2. Finley is already bringing someone else. Instead of telling her family that her and her ex broke up, she formulates a plan to fake date her best friend Cole and have him attend her cousins wedding with her. But there must be rules: no kissing and definitely no falling in love.

If you are looking for a cute young adult, friends to lovers, fake dating romance then this is the book for you. Everything about this book was ✨giving✨

Tropes and other details: Fake dating, friends to lovers, first-person single POV
Spice: 🚫

I loved Finley and Cole's story! I love friends to lovers and fake dating, and I thought this book was a great mix of both! I loved how Cole cared for Finley. He was such a sweetheart. Finley and Cole's relationship was just so much fun to read about. I also loved all of the family shenanigans and adventures that the Sunrise Beach crew got into. This was such a lighthearted, cute, fun, easy read! I'd definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a feel-good, entertaining romance!
