Fast paced story of adventure, betrayal, and revenge. From Europe to South America this tale spreads swashbuckling action with subterfuge, bold moves, and a misguided anger driving our hero to his fate. Only the love of the woman he raged hatred towards saves him. Excellent story. Should have been a movie! Like most of Frank Slaughter's novels, a medical officer in a military setting is torn between two opposite woman. With enemies and friends and The Spanish Inquisition sentencing him to death, this tome sets the successful pattern for many of Slaughter's later works. The author's descriptions about medical treatments and historical events add to the enjoyment of this Buccaneer Surgeon's story.
