Wonderfully illustrated and clearly written, this book is a valuable addition to any young person's reading library. A beautiful combination of poetry and images create a book that is both simple and profound. A great way to show children there are deeper meanings in nature. Great for discussion.
So many memories associated with this book. Art of Keats, combined with haiku. If you can find a copy of it, it's a wonderful book to share with children, or to read on your own when you need a quiet moment of peace.
I wasn't too sure about this book when I first opened it, but in the end, I really enjoyed it. The Haiku poems are simple, yet full of life. And Ezra Jack Keats' imagery compliments the poems, rather than overpowering them. It is a beautiful combination.
The moon in the water Turned a somersault And floated away. -Ryota
Grade 3-5 This book discusses (through use of haikus) several different animals and things found in nature. A lesson could be integrated between science (nature study) and language arts (poetry/haikus).
